#WAP feels like the biggest hit we’ve had since “Old Town Road.” It’s becoming a pop cultural phenomenon. It’s probably going to stay at #1 after it debuts there. She didn’t even need to do all those sales/bundles or what ever. It still would’ve debut at #1.

My posts from last September, where I described Circles as ''The Voice, Hot AC, soccer mom bait'', have aged really well. Except, it topped both Hot AC & AC.

Maybe since WHAT'S POPPIN REMIX, idk. At a stretch I'll give you biggest hit since ROCKSTAR.
It is not a pop cultural phenomenon yet. No where near that status imo.

Yet Cardigan is projected to fall from #1 to #10. With WAP’s streaming numbers, this looks like a multiple week #1.

^Sorry with what streaming numbers ? We have had day 1 and day 2 streaming numbers only from week 1. There are 5 more days in this week an then the next charting week starts so unless we use some crystal ball to see into the future...
Just because it increased day1 -> day2 doesn't mean it won't start decreasing. Maybe it will maybe it won't no one knows (that is the point). And YouTube is decreasing daily.

I like WAP but can it at least reach/debut #1 spot first before the conversations of a second week begins.

WAP has the most eventful release week this year, but I very much doubt it will last multiple weeks at #1. Songs like WAP never last long because of their lyrical content & limited mass appeal.

^ That doesn’t change the fact that the song DOES have mass appeal. This song is doing very well WW and is Cardi’s best performing single since GLY.

Lmao my family plays uncensored rap all the time around the house and in the car so we don't give af about a few naughty words.

WAP is not no damn old town road Right lmao... what even. This song is doing so huge out the gate because shock value. However it’ll probably end up stalling pretty quick. The novelty with a song like this will pretty much disappear by the first month. This is gonna probably have a chart run similar to Anaconda. 19-39-(video premiere)2-3-3-3-4-3-5-8-11-23-38-33-34-54-49-55-55-48-48-48 For those who were around then and followed pop culture Anaconda’s initial interest generated was pretty similar when that music video premiered. It broke the VEVO record and everyone was talking about it. By the end of the month the shock value wore off though and of course it never got played at radio notably.

Another example that comes to mind is Madonna's "Erotica", which was also crazy shock value as a vulgar/sexual single then. The chart run: 13-3-5-5-9-13-18-25-38-48-59-57-60-61-72-86-85-97
When it's the shock value that attracts the listeners it is just not going to have longevity.

So is WAP confirmed the lead single for CB2 or is this a buzz single?? It has the budget of a lead single but it seems weird to make the lead not very radio-friendly. But i guess bodak yellow did decent on radio.

Confused on the arguments that 'WAP' doesn't have mainstream appeal just because it's raunchy. Would y'all rather have boring shit like stuck with u, Someone You Loved , or the newest boring Maroon 5 song at the top again?

Would y'all rather have boring s**t like stuck with u, Someone You Loved , or the newest boring Maroon 5 song at the top again? I think people were just saying it won't have the longevity of songs like Old Town Road or Post Malones etc bc of the raunchiness. Those songs only stick around so long bc it eventually gets loved by older people as well as younger people, whereas I can't see many Boomers jamming to WAP.

Also stuck with u didn't have that much mainstream appeal based on its chart run.
And what Pulse would "rather" doesn't have to do with what they expect to have a good run.

I really need Megan to score a number one solo or with someone I like Rihanna or Britney. Also why is Megan credited a featured artist despite having two verses?! [ It’s not uncommon for featured artists to have more than one verse. The lead artist however is typically the one that owns the rights to the song...and that would be Cardi in this case. Cardi’s verses were already recorded when she sent it to Meg who liked it so much she sent two instead of the one Cardi expected. Cardi sent this song to others as well but decided no to include them. It’s Cardi’s song and concept though. The song itself was curated by a producer worked with on her last album. The creative direction of the video is all Cardi; Cardi’s team arranged for the choreography, dancers, and custom designed Mugler outfits and decor, using the relationship Cardi developed with the fashion house. Cardi’s team/record label also paid for everything including but not limited to co-vid testing for all participants. Word on the street is that Cardi spent $100,000 on the testing alone. This was hella of a creative look, design, and concept that all started with Cardi. She deserves credit as the lead, it’s not even a question. I just think it’s funny of you to insinuate Meg deserves lead credit as well when the song wasn’t hers; she didn’t contribute towards the budget; and the creative direction was all Cardi and her team.

This breakdown was great and informative (I didn't know Cardi was that involved in the video creatively), but on the question of a guest artist getting a feature credit, a co-lead credit or no credit at all, arg991, it's all at the discretion of the main artist/the artist who owns the song. Cardi didn't need to offer creative direction for anything to own that right. It's her song and she retained the right to credit whoever appeared as a guest on it however she pleased.

I still think it’s crazy i used to see cardi on vine and love and hip not knowing in 2020 we’d be talking about her 4th number 1.

Huge Debut Week doesn't automatically means Biggest song since OTR. Look what you made me do could be the best example. It was a huge comeback of TS after 1989. General Audience, Stans all were hyped and eat it like anything, it was bound to go no. 1. But did it survived for long term? It way to early to compare to any hit song let alone OTR.

General Audience, Stans all were hyped and eat it like anything, it was bound to go no. 1. But did it survived for long term? It way to early to compare to any hit song let alone OTR. This is probably the best example, here it is from another angle. Not Hot 100 points but song units. LWYMMD surpassed 1 Million song units in its 8th day (it almost went Platinum first week), based on RIAA's formula (all streaming /150 no tiers). 'Look What You Made Me Do' to date is at 5 X Platinum (5 million+ sold), almost 3 whole years have passed.
WAP had 21.7M streams (including UGC) day 1 on YouTube US, day 2 it dropped to 9.1M (includes UGC aswell). The song will go Gold with like 4 days of numbers but most of it comes from video streaming which in 99% of cases has no legs.
Note: UGC is not counted for certifications.
