Now we are down to our final 5. Here they are in no particular order:
Nobody But Me Ol' Red Austin She Wouldn't Be Gone God's Country
Anyone care to predict which will be at the very top?

"The Baby" missing the top 5 too is TRAGIC as well!! Come on y'all. I really love the song both musically and lyrically, but the song makes me cry every time I listen to it so I have to be willing to have that happen when I play it lol.

This top 5 doesn't really surprise me tho. except I am pretty shocked that "She Wouldn't Be Gone" made it. I'm not complaining, just surprised.
Predictions:
5. She Wouldn't Be Gone 4. Nobody But Me 3. God's Country 2. Austin 1. Ol' Red

Really surprised "Nobody but Me" made it to the top 5 here given that it pales in comparison to the other four in terms of career impact. Honestly, I at least like all of these so I won't really be upset with any possible outcome, though the other songs I all have in my top 10 except for that one so I'd rather it be out next.
Predictions:
1. Ol' Red 2. God's Country 3. Austin 4. She Wouldn't Be Gone 5. Nobody but Me

Sad to see "Playboys..." out already, but I wasn't so sure it would even make the top 10, so I'll take it. I thought that "Honey Bee" would possibly contend for #1, or at least be top 3, so I'm a little surprised to see it miss the top 5 and be out at #6.

Glad "Honey Bee" made the top 10. It's always been a guilty pleasure for me, but it's the kind of song Pulse usually loves to tank. As far as the top 5 goes, have to think either "Austin" or "Ol Red" is going to take it. The rest is a total crapshoot, though for my own sanity I hope the dreadful "God's Country" is next.
Predictions: 5. She Wouldn't Be Gone 4. God's Country 3. Nobody But Me 2. Ol' Red 1. Austin

I personally love “I Lived It” and am thrilled that it managed to find its way in the top 10 (and I get a perfect ranking!). Even though I remember this getting quite a bit of praise when it was announced as a single, I still didn’t think it’d manage to make it this far. This is such a great introspective song and one that always makes me stop for moment to just reflect.
I also never expected “Playboys of the Southwestern World” to make it into the top 10 and this is just one song that I’ve never been able to get into at all. I see I’m in the minority though as this picked up a lot more support than I would’ve guessed.
I just love everything about “Lonely Tonight” and can never get enough of that song. Was hoping to see it a few spots closer to the top 5, but I have nothing to be upset about given that I ended up ranking this just one spot shy of where it landed.
I suppose I should’ve lowered my expectations for “The Baby” as I thought it was for sure a top 5 contender, but at the same time I’ve always known it to have its share of detractors on Pulse. This song hits close to home for me as I lost my mom not two years after the release of it and I really did live some of these lyrics. The line about getting a call and "needing to come as fast as you can fly because she might not make it through the night" is pretty much how that played out for me. I flew back home (she was in the hospital in Iowa at the time) and unfortunately by the time I got to her side she was all but gone. It’s hard to even listen to this song now because I just can’t make it through those last two verses.
I really thought “Honey Bee” would make it into the top 5 as well, but in the end I think overplay may have had a factor in this one leaving just shy of that. It was because of that I used to not even be able to bare to hear this song on the radio, but over time I’ve grown to appreciate this one again.

Really happy to see I Lived It and Playboys make the top 10. Love Playboys, his delivery on that one is great.

5. Landing at #5 is the lead single from Blake's fifth studio album - 'Startin' Fires'. "She Wouldn't Be Gone" became Blake's fifth #1 in February 2009. "She Wouldn't Be Gone" is a song that that while I greatly enjoy, I sort of overlooked for a while. When I went back and listened to all of Blake's singles for this rankdown, I was reminded of just how much I love it. I am glad that so many are in agreement with me on this one. While this didn't receive any #1 ranks, 3 put this at #3, one put it at #4 and 2 put it at #5. Tags: @gabingston & Cody Wants Out...

"She Wouldn't Be Gone" has always been one of Blake's more underrated singles imo, so I am thrilled with its top 5 placement here!!! "Goodbye Time" and "The Baby" deserved, but if they couldn't, at least we were able to get a surprise out of this song!
"Nobody But Me" is overstaying at this point imo, so I'd be happy to see it leave next.

The tune peaked at #4 on country radio in April 2006. As .indulgecountry noted earlier on this page, it pales in comparison to the other songs in the top 5 in terms of career impact. At the same time, it is a nice song in his discography that I should revisit more. Nobody ranked this at the very top but two participants put it at #2 and one participant ranked it at #5. This means we have made it to the TOP 3! Either "Austin", "God's Country", or "Ol' Red" will go down as Pulse's favorite Blake Shelton single. I will do the final reveal a little later tonight. Until then, does anybody want to make one last prediction on what will be #1....?

There ya go! "Nobody But Me" wore me out so badly back in the day... It may not have had quite as much immediate impact and long-lasting airplay as something like "Some Beach" did, but CMT still showed the music video ALL.THE.TIME. and I found the melody to get very annoying very quickly.
That being said, this song is still really good. I can definitely appreciate it again! Shocked to see it this high though, as it feels like it should have been top 15 at best....
"Austin" is very obviously the only song that deserves to win this, but I also happen to know that there are a couple people here with extremely questionable taste. So I am going to go ahead and predict "Austin" gets relegated to #2 with "Ol' Red" sneaking by to claim #1. Which of course leaves "Gods Country" to vanish next.

I think "God's Country" was probably a tad over-rated here due to recency bias and the fact that we were actually excited by something he released for once. Kinda like "Humble And Kind" finishing at #2 in the Tim McGraw singles rankdown. That being said, it still sounds so fresh and dark and is really just a fantastic Southern Gothic jam in the same style that Reba has done so well before with "Maggie Creek Road" and "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia". I'm glad it gave a bit of a "revival" to Blake's career, because when he's on, he is capable of making really good music.

Look @ me correctly predicting how the top 5 would play out I'm sorry, "Austin" is just the stupidest song lol. I already hate it musically, something about that melody is really awful to my ears, and lyrically I feel pretty much the same way. Who would have so much long-winded babble on their answering machine, and then later change it to even more long-winded babble poor Austin will never get tot he part that's relevant to them because they will have long hung up by that point. I personally would never call this person, ever. It's just a plot-driven song that trying to be "deep" lol. Hard pass. "Ol' Red" on the other hand is absolutely fantastic, the melody and instrumentation are excellent and I think the song tells a pretty cool story too lol. I love the last line so much, "love got me in here and love got me out" is just such a clever way to wrap up the story the song is telling. Thanks for hosting HeyHeyHey ! Well for f**k's sake. I hate it so much when this happens. "Independence Day" in the 1994 rankdown teas... Yea, especially when it seems like someone in particular may have intentionally tanked a song Idk how serious you're being, but I actually really don't like when an accusation like this is made. I would hope that y'all know me better than to know that I would intentionally tank a song by putting it dead last just because I didn't want it to win. I genuinely hate "Austin" with a burning passion and it has always been my least favorite song of his. I get that might be astounding to most of you because y'all love the song so much, but that doesn't mean it isn't true for me. I can't speak for SHOOTER but I have no reason to believe someone isn't ranking according to their own personal tastes, unless said poster is pretty much a known troll or troublemaker.

I’m kidding of course, but either way I just can’t wrap my head around anyone ranking “Austin” dead last. No matter the end result the song certainly was the more deserving winner. The top 5 ended up being kind of a mixed bag overall with their being one or two outliers, but the top 3 was solid. Even though “Ol’ Red” was only a top 15 hit back in the day, Blake was able to take a song and really make it his own so much so that it’s now considered one of his signature songs. I think the same can already be said for “God’s Country” as years from now it’ll likely be regarded the same, so with that I’m glad to see it perform so well here despite it being one of his more recent hits. Thanks again HeyHeyHey for hosting this as I really enjoyed going back to revisit Blake’s material!

I do love both of these a lot. "Ol' Red" is a fun, creative, catchy story song. But "Austin" is the career-defining song. It is easily one of my favorite male vocal performances of the '00s.
This is literally the equivalent of Eric Church winning the CMA Entertainer of the Year over Carrie Underwood. The decently successful option that is nowhere near the best of all time but has a rabid cult following, versus the commercial success option that actually made a huge impact and has permanently left its mark on the country music industry...
