And to think that Blinding Lights didn't even debut inside top 10. Itβs still amazing regardless. Iβve been waiting for abel to have an actual superstar hit since often and love me harder. The fact that he surpassed his own big hits like the hills and starboy with this song goes to show that he was always meant to be a superstar or... a starboy

I like the 70's & 80's AT40 shows & wish that the Shadoe Stevens shows could be listened to also.

Another #1 debut (yawn) at this point used toilet paper from the Charmin bears is more meaningful. Upcoming spoilers to stay #1 Folklore on 8-track, Reel-To-reel & finally Erolklof the whole album backward (the best sounding one next to a blank Cd).

Congratulations BTS! This makes me low-key sad for One Direction, whose cultural influence far outweighed their Hot 100 peaks. They really should have got a number-one single huh. And let's not forget that the Backstreet Boys never got to #1 on the Hot 100 either.

Dear Lord...last week's top ten tweet by Billboard got 16k likes. Today's already has nearly 850k. No wonder they bring up BTS every chance they get.

Gangnam Style's #2 peak will forever be bigger than BTS' #1 songs. Sorrrry
but congrats, they really have a huge fanbase.

Don't dismiss the importance of so-called Boy Bands to the drawing people to music. After all, bands such as The Beatles, Duran Duran, BSB/NSYNC not only shifted musical tastes, but also brought in millions of fans aka $$$.
Circles is still +10 over #26 so I'm content.

Most weeks in the top 5 Shape Of You 27 Closer 27 Circles 26 How Do I Live 25 Uptown Funk 25 Blinding Lights 25 How Do I Live was such a longevity monster. It held the top 10 and Top 5 longevity records for such a long time. And it never hit #1!

Maybe the charts are accurately reflecting that the biggest song has been changing frequently from week to week this year? Also I don't even know what you're trying to say with that Folklore thing if you're gonna be mad about Taylor's success at least come up with a way that's less stupid

This obviously goes by nationality and not necessarily race or ethnicity (otherwise Bruno Mars and ZAYN would both be considered "Asian" here too): I think they mean, from Asia. There were a few Asian-Americans/Brits that have hit the #1 spot (Yoko Ono, Jay Sean, Far East Movement)

As has happened with albums and movies over the years, it kinda makes sense that songs will become front loaded too. An event single with maximum viral hype and looking for #1 doesn't need or care about longevity, and they don't need radio or sustained streaming/sales if they can be big enough that first week. 6ix9ine got his number one hit, he didn't care if it spent 47 weeks in the top 20.

As said before, canadian charts are always better Tate is Canadian and Canadian law requires radios to play Canadian artists 35% of the time. Not a shocker that she's getting played more there if she's managed to chart on the Hot 100 here.

I posted earlier in this thread but other people of Asian descent with #1s include Yvonne Elliman, Enrique Iglesias, and Larry Ramos from The Association.

Yeah apl.de.ap was born and raised in the Philippines, only moving to the US in his teens. Speaks very fluent of the national language and local dialect of the place he was born.

Between Conan Gray and Tate McRae, it really took only a year before labels started banking behind artists that sound like Billie Eilish. I mean it was a few years before we had the Lorde ripoffs.
(And yes I know both artists started around the same time as Billie, I know they're not ripoffs. I just think they wouldn't have gotten big if it weren't for Billie)

(And yes I know both artists started around the same time as Billie, I know they're not ripoffs. From the past decade, singers like Lorde and Lana Del Rey gaining mainstream success and acclaim by essentially making anti-bubblegum pop music was noticed by labels (of course, acts who sing in low registers and aren't vocal powerhouses have been a thing in music forever, but I'm mostly referring to recently). Billie Eilish is probably the one to take it the furthest the quickest with the massive amount of success she's seen in such a short amount of time (both critically and commercially). I'm sure we'll see a ton of young singers who sound very similar to Billie being pushed by labels henceforth. The only thing left to see is how many of them will actually break through commercially like Billie has.
