It seems like the race for this week's #2 is between Laugh Now Cry Later (last week at #2: August 29) and Blinding Lights (last week at #2: July 18 and previously on May 9). We really need some new hits.

So with Adele confirmed doing SNL next week.....will that means Adele is also dropping her new single on Oct 23, the same day as Ariana.....it will be interesting to see no. Adele won't be doing a musical performance on SNL. she's the host. the musical guest of the episode is H.E.R., so unless Adele is coming back with a H.E.R. collaboration, I don't see why she'd drop her song this Friday. Love H.E.R but it would have been fun if the musical performer is Rihanna (or the other way around Rihanna hosting, Adele performing)! It would have been the perfect conclusion to the when will Adele/Rihanna release saga the past 4 years lol

Why do we need to have one single at a time these days. The fast rollouts are because of that. Nobody cares or listens to radio, so sure they can send a song there but pushing the whole album out soon makes sense. Of course people can just stream the whole album regardless of singles, but at the end of the day it's still the singles that will be remembered by the gp. Would as many people know Don't Start Now or Watermelon Sugar had they been just album tracks?

Would as many people know Don't Start Now or Watermelon Sugar had they been just album tracks? It does seem as if pop and country songs have legs as singles that more streaming-dependent genres don't have as much. If you can get radio play, your songs will be treated like singles and will be remembered by the GP, especially those who hear the songs over and over again over the course of months. If your songs don't make it on the radio, then you are remembered only if your songs are streamed on enough private radios, where they become singles because people choose to listen to them early and often regardless of what radio says.

Justin Bieber has had 4 top ten hits this year so far and the one with the most longevity is the lowest peaking. Has this ever happened before or is this a new feat resulting from the streaming era?
Edit: forgot about 10,000 Hours but that's still his 2nd lowest peaking of his 5 top tens this year with 2nd most longevity

Edit: forgot about 10,000 Hours but that's still his 2nd lowest peaking of his 5 top tens this year with 2nd most longevity And the award for most forgotten hit from this chart year goes to... Fun fact: I brought up this same observation on another thread and I also forgot this song was a thing that stuck around the top 10 for a while.

Billboard needs to end the fraudulence right now I'm 90% sure Billboard/Nielsen didn't apply the bulk-buying filtering rules on the sales last week so BTS could hold the top two for the revenue-grabbing headlines they could generate. Reasoning: when the 4 new midnight remixes were released (so they could buy 40 copies), the average copy per order went to around 18. Last week, it shot up to over 32 per order, which is insane (that's how it INCREASED from 86k sales to 94k sales despite having half the orders, and their focus being on SLR instead last week). Then, this week they started applying the filtering again and it went back to 18 copies per order as "normal", which is why the sales suddenly tanked. There is literally no logical reasoning for why this could have happened.

This is also why every prediction has been severely off on Dynamite for the past two weeks (TOTC, fhas, cedric, etc). We're all trying to use the same logic for the sales (which actually worked somewhat decently before) but now there is no reasoning to it. We assumed the order avg would have stayed the same as last week (hence predicting it back to #1) but it randomly dropped to what it was before.
