Really pleasantly surprised at how well Bobbie Gentry did here. "Ode to Billie Joe" is a classic, but it's still on the country side of things so I never know how that's gonna go.

some songs that I would’ve considered -
phoebe bridgers - motion sickness earl sweatshirt - chum kids see ghosts - reborn radiohead - how to disappear completely/no surprises
overall though, a lot of the songs here were really great picks & it’s exciting to see what will be sent in future rounds

ROUND TWO - IT'S A ROBBERY!!!Featured Song: Playboi Carti - "Magnolia" (#97 in 2017 Hot 100 RD)
For this round, you're gonna have to send basically the antithesis of rankdown winner. Send a song that finished in the bottom 10/5 in a chart-based rankdown. You can send any song in the bottom 10 of a rankdown with more than 40 songs, but if the rankdown has 40 or less songs you can only send a song in the bottom 5. Remember that we're still looking for a good song here, so basically a song that got robbed. Any chart-based rankdown is allowed, not exclusive to the Hot 100 ones.
As a reminder, you cannot use any songs in the Hall of Fame below;
Alice Deejay - "Better Off Alone" Amy Winehouse - "Back To Black" Ariana Grande & The Weeknd - "Love Me Harder" Big Star - "Thirteen" BROCKHAMPTON - "BOOGIE" Charli XCX & Christine & The Queens - "Gone" Coldplay - "Don't Panic" Dua Lipa - "Don't Start Now" Earth, Wind, & Fire - "September" Foo Fighters - "Everlong" Johnny Cash - "Hurt" Kanye West - "Through The Wire" Kanye West feat. Pusha T - "Runaway" Kendrick Lamar - "The Art Of Peer Pressure" Lana Del Rey - "Venice Bitch" Lauryn Hill - "Doo Wop (That Thing)" Lauryn Hill - "Ex-Factor" Lorde - "Ribs" Marvin Gaye - "What's Going On" Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - "Ain't No Mountain Enough" Michael Jackson - "Billie Jean" OutKast - "Rosa Parks" Patsy Cline - "Crazy" Public Enemy - "Fight The Power" Sigur Rós - "Hoppípolla" The Cure - "Lovesong" The Flamingos - "I Only Have Eyes For You" The Ronettes - "Sleigh Ride" The Smiths - "How Soon Is Now?" The Supremes - "You Keep Me Hangin' On" Ultravox - "Vienna" Due Date: November 25th 4PM EST

To make this clearer, any RDs where the host has no control of what songs are in the rankdown are allowed. Also if you have any questions, as usual, feel free to ask me. :) this is a sick theme sam, looking forward to the list Thank you bb @matthewlam came up with the idea!

I feel like this round could've been way more funny if the Top 20s Of The 80s, Country BOTB, and 2010s RYM Top 100 RDs weren't fair game to choose from. But I do still like the enormous contrast in how acclaimed some of these songs are compared to others.

ROUND TWO - RESULTS
Welcome to the second elimination ceremony! This has been an interesting round if I do say so myself. These were all certainly interesting picks, though not all are in the good way. That being said, one person come out on top with a winning performance, and that person is...INDULGE!Taylor Swift - "Enchanted"It seems like you come back with a vengeance after your run was cut short in Season 1! Congratulations!Sambalada: "Ethereal. Might even be the best song Taylor has ever made imo." (9.7)Fearless: "So this is slayage. One of Taylor Swift’s very best. It’s my favorite track on Speak Now - it’s one of those songs that I can get lost in; “Enchanted” has such a magical feel to it. This definitely got robbed in the BOTB RD it was in." (10)Matt: (9.1)Violet: "so uhhh apparently everyone really likes this. i’ve never been a fan of taylor swift and especially the songs that everyone generally loves by her minus “betty” and unfortunately, this isn’t an exception to this. it’s fine. i wish i had more to say about this though." (5.9)Willapted: "I adore this song, hate to be this obvious but the whole atmosphere of the song could be described as ‘enchanting’ and its overall one of her absolute best." (9.6)Shruggie: "What rankdown was this in? Because this is one of T-Swift's best songs yet." (9.5)TOTAL: 53.8 | AVERAGE: 8.97The second best is...MAYMAN!Young Nudy & Playboi Carti - "Pissy Pamper (Kid Cudi"I hope this will be available on Spotify soon but I know it ain't happening: soundcloud.com/user-650729529/pissy-pamperYou also have been doing exceptionally well so far. Keep it up!Sambalada: "Banger. The beat was just fire. Their performances are also entertaining. Maybe not something I'd come back to, but I really enjoy this listen." (7.4)Fearless: "The beat is pretty sick on this one and the flow of the rap is good too. Not something I’d return to super often (considering you can’t find it on Spotify/Apple Music too I suppose) but it’s definitely a good listen." (8.1)Matt: (9.5)Violet: "Honestly carti, nudy, and pierre’s magnum opus. it’ll be very hard for any of them to top this god damn this song is nuts. wish the sample was cleared and it can get released onto streaming services proper." (10)Willapted: "This would probably one of my all-time favourite songs if it was on streaming, that’s really my only complaint though. When I do get the chance to listen to this, I love everything about it. Was also bottom 5 in my personal rankdown so it unfortunately fits this theme very well." (9.7)Shruggie: "Trap always gets robbed in RDs and I can totally see why. This deserved better." (8.0)TOTAL: 52.7 | AVERAGE: 8.78The third best is...NICK PERKINS!Whitney Houston - "So Emotional"After changing your songs multiple times, your final choice put you in the top 3 of the bunch. Congratulations you're still in the running!Sambalada: "Love this Whitney classic. Her voice is legendary and this song really shows the best strength of it. It's a very catchy song to bounce around to, and that chorus is explosive and super fun." (8.7)Fearless: "A classic. It’s such a burst of positive energy in the way “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” is. I wish this one got a little more love, I see “Dance” get all the love usually." (9.0)Matt: (5.6)Violet: "This song is soaked in so much late 80s it manages to be spectacular. peak circuit city-core." (8.2)Willapted: "It’s good, obviously." (7.9)Shruggie: "What rankdown was this in, because this is a bop right here." (9.3)TOTAL:48.7 | AVERAGE: 8.12Next...ZEDD!FKA Twigs - "home with you"Sambalada: "Even in a rankdown as stacked as the RYM RD, I still think this song is robbed. The crowd is not ready for this song. The multiple vocal effects create a great sonic experience. The piano line gives off a sinister twist to the song that creeps me the f**k out. The vibes got even more and more apparent towards the end with the haunting melodical build up. This song is a piece of art." (9.0)Fearless: "This is probably the type of song I wish I appreciated more, but it doesn’t have a ton of replay value for me. How the last chorus swells in momentum and carries over into the beautiful outro is definitely a highlight but the parts prior don’t do a ton for me." (7.1)Matt: (7.2)Violet: "Oh jeez what did this get bottom 10 in? anyways this is a pretty solid track. not one of my favs from magdalene but it’s still a really solid track." (8.4)Willapted: "Pitting something as elegant and perfect as this against the Doses and Mimosases & Treat You Betters of the world feels wrong, but at the end of the day it’s just smart tactics and I must commend whoever chose this lol." (9.3)Shruggie: "Not really a fan of the vocals but I dig everything else." (7.0)TOTAL: 48.0 | AVERAGE: 8.0Next...
WALT91!Neneh Cherry - "Buffalo Stance"Sambalada: "Neneh Cherry is so fierce here. Love the fusion of different styles implemented in the production and Cherry's attitude was outstanding." (7.8)Fearless: "This is a really nice blend of hip-hop and pop music and the song flows really well from one style to the other. I dig the production in the pre-chorus and the chorus as well." (8.5)Matt: (5.8)Violet: "Fun fact: neneh cherry is mabel’s mother. this song is also much better than anything mabel has made though like many of mabel’s songs, this is very of its time." (6.5)Willapted: "The only part of this I recognise is parts of the instrumental at like 2:40 and also the dadada dadada dadada dadada dadada thing that happens occasionally. Those bits are cool. I also like the vocals here, nice energy and whatnot. Great choice." (8.3)Shruggie: "There's better pop rap out there but this one's great." (8.5)TOTAL: 45.4 | AVERAGE: 7.57Next...MOD!Lil Tecca - "Ransom"
Sambalada: "I can't believe we let this finish bottom 5 in that RD just one year ago. This is a jam. It has cool beats and a very catchy hook. One of my favorite rap hits from last year." (8.3)Fearless: "This is way catchier than I remember it being? The beat is super catchy and the rapping is pretty nice too - I’ve been underranking this song in every RD it’s been in, it seems like lol." (7.0)Matt: (8.3)Violet: "I always thought this song was overhated to be honest so i’m glad to see it here. the hook is really good but outside of that there isn’t much else to this song sadly and it’s kinda burned on me since." (7.1)Willapted: "This is such an earworm, I really can’t help but enjoy it. I feel like it was getting a bit overplayed last year but after not hearing it for a while I can comfortably say it’s a banger." (7.7)Shruggie: "Really mixed feelings on this one. But in the end, seeing how Lil Tecca has made better, I'm gonna lean more on the negative side for this one. Sorry. neutral_face." (4.5)TOTAL: 42.9 | AVERAGE: 7.15Next...JAMES!Lewis Del Mar - "Loud(y)"Sambalada: "Another song I haven't checked out much after its original rankdown. This is pretty cool. There are some interesting instrumentation twists in the song. Not sure if I actually like the song, but I enjoy it now." (7.1)Fearless: "I actually JUST listened to the song for the first time just a few days ago (for the 2016 Alternative rankdown redo) and I liked it. I didn’t really know what to make of the song at first - the beginning is a bit jarring to listen to, but it just kept growing on me as the song went on. The instrumentation is really interesting and the guitar riff in the chorus is memorable." (7.9)Matt: (6.6)Violet: "Ok the title had me expecting some overly saccharine folk pop i already knew from the s**tty adult alternative playlists my parents play. instead this is a pretty solid folktronica tune. i like the production a fair bit but there isn’t much outside of it to this song. i should probably listen to more stuff like this given how much i like it." (7.6)Willapted: "This was firmly in my top half for the 2016 alt re-do, not exactly sure what those who did the original saw in this that resulted in its bottom 2 finish lmao." (7.5)Shruggie: "Eh." (6.0)TOTAL: 42.7 | AVERAGE: 7.12Next...BB!Love And Rockets - "So Alive"Sambalada: "I like this song. I just don't think it's among the best representation for 80s hit songs. Very good instruments choice but that's it." (6.7)Fearless: "A perfectly pleasant listen, but I personally don’t find anything remarkably great about this either - every component of this song falls under “good” for me. I feel like this song just plods along at the same energy level, probably because of the vocal delivery." (7.0)Matt: (5.5)Violet: "This is quite a weird song to be a chart topping hit here in the US. i’ve never heard it before now but it’s a pleasant listen. there isn’t really much to say and i feel like sone songs kinda pull off what this song is trying to achieve a bit better." (7.0)Willapted: "Never heard this one but it’s great. Yeah. I like it. Good choice." (8.0)Shruggie: "Banger." (8.0)TOTAL: 42.2 | AVERAGE: 7.03Next...WRIP!Stevie Nicks with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"Sambalada: "Eh. I was never a big fan of this song actually. I guess it has a good production but the song itself never excites me much. Probably the weakest Stevie Nicks song I've heard." (6.2)Fearless: "While it doesn’t come near the greatness of “Edge of Seventeen” from the same album, this song is pretty great in its own right. The guitar riffs are nice and while I don’t think Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty had the best chemistry in the song, I think that was just due to Stevie Nick’s voice coming out louder than Tom Petty’s voice in the recording." (8.1)Matt: (6.4)Violet: "I never liked stevie nicks and tom petty much at all along with their respective groups minus a couple of fleetwood mac songs and just like much of their work, this doesn’t really do much for me at all." (5.0)Willapted: "It’s not bad but doesn’t really stick out to me. Vocals are solid and production is nice." (6.5)Shruggie: "Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining Players only love you when they're playing Say, women, they will come and they will go When the rain washes you clean, you'll know You'll know." (9.5)TOTAL: 41.7 | AVERAGE: 6.95Next...WOODS!Desiigner - "Panda"Sambalada: "2016 me went crazy for this song. Nowadays I think it's just okay. Production is obviously good and Desiigner also delivers a good performance but overall, it doesn't excite me much anymore. Tiimmy Turner is much more interesting." (6.7)Fearless: "I used to hate this song, but I don’t feel that way about this song anymore. The beat and the rap are actually kind of nice. I still think the repeated “panda”s are pretty stupid though." (6.7)Matt: (8.5)Violet: "Man this song was the s**t in 2016. damn does time fly. i don’t have any value for this outside of nostalgia tho." (6.3)Willapted: "The hate for this classic is disgusting." (8.5)Shruggie: "Ehhhhhh, Tiimmy Turner is WAY better than this." (4.5)TOTAL: 41.2 | AVERAGE: 6.87Next...SLAYER!Weezer - "Beverly Hills"Sambalada: "I used to think this was like, the best artifact of 2000s rock. While I no longer think it's THAT good, I still enjoy it a bit. The instrumentation reminds me too much of I love rock n roll, and that song was already just mediocre imo." (5.9)Fearless: "I was never particularly fond of this song, and I’m still not that into it in particular. The song seems a little… lazy (?) for a lack of better word and it doesn’t feel like anything special musically or lyrically." (6.3)Matt: (8.6)Violet: "weezer cum" (7.0)Willapted: "Lmao, shoutout to whoever was brave enough to send this. I don’t hate it like some people do but I definitely don’t enjoy it either." (4.5)Shruggie: "I know I will be roasted for this but personally I like it. Sure, Weezer has better, but overall I get where this song goes." (8.5)TOTAL: 40.8 | AVERAGE: 6.8The last person to escape the bottom two is...JAMESFLAME!Cherub - "Doses & Mimosas"Sambalada: "I really didn't remember how this goes and I'm surprised someone sent this considering it's dead last on its original rankdown, but this is pretty cool? At least the production is, not really a fan of the guy's vocals. The autotune is cool though. The chorus is very catchy but the lyrics are trying too hard to be edgy imo." (6.0)Fearless: "Um my friends used to play this all the time, lol. They seemed like they were obsessed with this considering how often they played it but I never really “got” this song. The vocals are annoying and the chorus is just so bad. The production is probably the saving grace of this song. Nostalgia does give it some bonus points though." (4.1)Matt: (6.2)Violet: "This sounds like the inside of an h&m but i don’t mind it." (5.7)Willapted: "The lyrics and vocals here are pretty suck-y but I like the production quite a bit. Knowing the amount of crap that finds itself on modern alt lists, I’d agree that finishing bottom 10 (let alone last place) is way too harsh." (6.2)Shruggie: "Pretty great track, one of my favourite discoveries of the bunch." (9.0)TOTAL: 37.2 | AVERAGE: 6.2
You went from winning the first round to barely avoiding the bottom two this time. I hope you'll find a more consistent step next time! Which means the bottom two are... HAMED & TAY
Both of you have the same problem for this round. You're taking risks with your song selection that unfortunately does not pay off with this panel of judges.
One of you will be eliminated.

The last person to advance to the next round is...HAMED!Beyoncé - "7/11"Sambalada: "This was a bop back then and still is now. I have no regrets in shaking my flat ass to the beat whenever this song comes on." (8.0)Fearless: ""7/11” gets too much hate, it’s a jam and a half. I mean it’s nowhere near Beyoncé’s best, but some people act like it’s an abomination and it’s just not. What’s wrong with having a ratchet anthem? Haters be mad because Beyoncé be fresher than them." (8.0)Matt: (5.1)Violet: "I'm out of shape." (4.5)Willapted: "I don’t hate this but there were better trap songs available." (5.0) Shruggie: "I'm not a fan of Beyonce's self-titled album's singles, and this is easily the worst one." (1.5) TOTAL: 32.1 | AVERAGE: 5.35
You may need to send songs that have more universal appeal. You basically only managed to impress me and Fearless this time. However, you're still in the running towards becoming the winner of the season. Congratulations!Which means...
