Can we take the time to appreciate how great this current YE top 3, it won’t but still I didn’t think we would get a top 3 as good as 2020 but this one’s even better, all of these songs 5/5 for me. Last year's top 3 were all 5/5 for me. I think Mood is 3/5 and Drivers License 4/5

In my mind the 2020 Year End Top 5 was one of the best we've ever had. I don't expect we'll get one that good again for a while.
Literally all 5/5 songs for me. Rockstar took a while to grow on me but it got there.

Rockstar took a while to grow on me but it got there. Yeah - the top 5 for the 2020 Year-End was truly legendary in quality, and definitely up there alongside those for 2004 and 1983. I mean, it's enough of a testament when 4/5 ended up in the top 10 on Pulse's 2020 rankdown (and "ROCKSTAR" made the top 15), with the top 2 being "Don't Start Now" and "Blinding Lights".

So for now, I think the contenders for year end #1 are Mood Blinding Lights Drivers License Montero Peaches Leave The Door Open or something else thats either yet to be big or yet to be released. it would take something not released to be absolutely huge for it to be #1

I think either Peaches or Montero will get #1 year end personally. Peaches will probably be #1 year end worldwide and Montero #1 in the us maybe.

Montero is too weak rn and the buzz is dying off, it won’t get YE #1, similar to how WAP didn’t get a YE #1 last year. Songs that blow up off of controversy and shock value die pretty quickly.

I totally agree. Montero may not even get a 2nd week at #1 (due to LTDO's physical sales and CDs), and even if it does, it certainly won't get a 3rd week. In my opinion, I believe the #1 hit will come from what is already in the Top 3. Mood, Blinding Lights, and drivers license are so far ahead of the field, and we are almost halfway through the chart year. If any hit is going to make a challenge, it will be Leave the Door Open (it's already at #71 after 4 weeks, and could possibly be adding a week at #1 onto its points in Week 5), but it needs to go on a DaBaby Rockstar type of run until November.

Which year had the highest cutoff in points? 2017. The cutoff was about 185k points. 2018 also had a high cutoff at 183kYet "Believer" and "Mi Gente" somehow managed to make it in.

My Head & My Heart is done for. Kinda sad, I was hoping it would be a minor hit at least

Rockstar took a while to grow on me but it got there. The whole 2020 top 10 is a rollercoaster, it starts good with the first 6 songs but it falls off with Life Is Good and Memories then The Bones raises it but then it goes into a full nose dive with Someone You Loved.

I don’t know if this has been discussed at all, but Luke Combs is about to become the first artist to have six YE singles from an album since Katy Perry with Teenage Dream. Getting one YE hit is a huge feat for a country artist, so it can’t be said enough how much of a powerhouse this guy has become.

I didn't know this, that's good for him that WYSIWYG was such a great commercial success.

^One thing I do gotta say about the album is that I feel like they sort've mishandled FFA, they should've pushed it around December-January when it was still doing good on iTunes but it's still doing good nonetheless.

Maybe they're aiming more for longevity? i.e They were waiting for it to fizzle out before pushing it to ensure it stays around for a while

I'm calling it now: "Astronaut in the Ocean" will finish in the top ten of 2021.

It’s a hot take, but i think Astronaut in the Ocean is the Dance Monkey of 2021. A huge international hit, but the GP’s opinions are completely divided on whether you think the song is amazing, or completely atrocious. Also not to mention, both songs are from Australian artists.

Crazy how Morgan Wallen was literally on track to have at least 5 & probably more if some type of deluxe edition happened the same way Katy & Luke did but he literally screwed up at the worst time possible and is now gonna wind up with just 1 at the position of #96.

Seeing as Lil Tjay's album only debuted at number 5, does anyone think he will get an album bomb? I thought for sure he would before but now i am not so sure

^Also, it took a while for Dance Monkey to become popular elsewhere. AITO is becoming popular elsewhere slightly behind Australia.

Leave the Door Open hits #1 with 32,370 points. All of its metrics are on the rise, even beyond its sales push. Obviously it’s too early to say, but we might have ourselves an long-running #1 on our hands. I’m expecting a similar run to Rockstar last year (not overly dominant, and Rapstar might take the #1 next week, but then it returns to the top and stays there for about 6-8 weeks)
And for what it’s worth, Montero got 29,220 points. Which is a way smaller drop than I was expecting. Radio doesn’t seem to be getting on board, but even despite that, it might have more staying power than I was expecting.

LTDO might be in good position to be the year end #1. I just don't think Mood is gonna get an insurmountable lead and those Bruno Mars songs can sometimes just stick around forever.

That'd be two years in a row where the Year-End #1 was a throwback (Blinding Lights for 80s Synthpop and Leave The Door Open for 70s R&B).

If that happens, Bruno would join George Michael, The Beatles, and Paul McCartney as the only acts to score two or more Year-End #1s.

Did MJ not score two YEs with Billie Jean and Thriller?

Did MJ not score two YEs with Billie Jean and Thriller? "Thriller" only peaked at #4 on the Hot 100, and finished at #78 on the 1984 Year-End. Meanwhile, "Billie Jean" was indeed a massive hit (second biggest song of 1983), but The Police's "Every Breath You Take" was the Year-End #1 that year. I'm actually kind of shocked Michael Jackson never had a Year-End #1 to his name, now that I come to think of it.
