If that happens, Bruno would join George Michael, The Beatles, and Paul McCartney as the only acts to score two or more Year-End #1s. On this topic, it was a missed opportunity for Adele to be in this group with "Rolling In The Deep" in 2011 and "Hello" in 2016, but the latter's three huge weeks counted in 2015 (but then again, I kinda think with how "Hello" left so early Justin Bieber would've still been the YE #1, although barely beating "Hello")

So yeah, it was a missed opportunity for Adele.

Seeing as Lil Tjay's album only debuted at number 5, does anyone think he will get an album bomb? I thought for sure he would before but now i am not so sure update: he didn't, oh well

However its consolidated point total was still nowhere near that of Closer so it would never have been the true biggest song of 2016

I don't think it's likely for "Blinding Lights" to pass "Mood" on the year-end, though.

It'll probably be Drake's album bomb that takes it out honestly, since he's the next big powerhouse release unless Rihanna or Adele drop something in the next couple months.

I know Drake's dropping this year, but it could be a month from now or at the end of the year. Riri and Adele are possibilities as well (as you mentioned), but they're big wildcards (and Adele's albums are more in the range of 10-12 songs, so even if all of them debut in the Top 25, it might not be enough to knock the immortal cockroach that is Blinding Lights off the charts).

Who knows Silk Sonic could also take him out, but Bruno usually has like 9 songs on an album and I doubt most of them will debut Top 25.

Did MJ not score two YEs with Billie Jean and Thriller? See you would think Thriller hit #1, considering how iconic it is today. But...it was actually the 7th and final single from the Thriller album cycle, and wasnโt even promoted during the Halloween season (it began charting in February and peaked in March). Honestly, the timing was so terrible that Thriller even being a hit is a testament to how massive MJ was in the early 80s And then Billie Jean was just flat out beat by Every Breath You Take. According to the decade list, his biggest song of the 80s was actually Say Say Say, which was #3 on the 1984 list despite losing 7 weeks to the 1983 chart year (4 of which were in the top 10, including 2 at #2)

One thing that I think we have to get used to is that if these Christmas seasons stick around to the future repeating on the year end list will be much harder. Last year both I Don't Care and Sucker got robbed of the year end list by Christmas songs dropping the total from 11 to 9 and this year it's possible that Rockstar, More Than My Hometown and Savage Love all get denied spots because of lost weeks. (Before You Go not so much because it only had 12 potential weeks anyway.) This is balanced out a bit by AIWFCIY repeating and maybe RATCT doing it next year but still. If this had happened in like 2016 then a song like See You Again would almost certainly have missed & its record 14 repeaters wouldn't have happened. This is a bit annoying to me idk how people feel.

I completely agree with you. Repeats shouldn't get denied places because of Christmas Songs and to me they just wreck things. BL missed what could go on to be the make or break week because of Christmas Songs. I dont really know what the new alternative could be though. I was thinking a separate holiday chart but idk how that would work

Personally, I'm glad older songs have been getting their chart runs cut short thanks to the Christmas season. "I Don't Care" and "Sucker" would have no business being among the 100 biggest songs of 2020 when both peaked in early/mid-2019 **. "Savage Love" and "ROCKSTAR" also feel like old news by now - even more so once the 2021 chart year is over. Yes, it will get annoying having the same two festive songs guaranteed to repeat every year, but at least they represent what the American public was actively consuming, whereas the previous songs only sticked around for this long due to slow turnover from radio. **Disclaimer: "Blinding Lights" is an obvious exception to the norm, as it has been incredibly consistent across all three mediums.

This year, weโre most likely only getting 8 YE repeats, which would be the lowest number of such since 2015. With the exception of AIWFCIY, all of them are currently anticipated to make the top half of the YE. Iโm not a fan of the Christmas music invading the charts every year, but I have to agree withย Lost In Musical Reverie that the one unequivocally good thing to come out of it is that it sweeps away songs that have been around for too long and lowers their chances of making the YE, if only for a few weeks. Iโm willing to bet that if Christmas music were as strong in 2017 as it was this past year, Mi Gente and Believer would have been nowhere near the 2018 YE. So far, Only Human and (eventually) Blinding Lights are the only songs to have made a YE after getting knocked into recurrency by Christmas music, and those were only knocked out for 1 week apiece.

IMO, let the Christmas songs chart on the Hot 100, but prevent them (and by extension all holiday songs) from entering the YE or any decade or all time charts unless itโs the YE of their first year (so for example Holiday should be eligible for the 2021 YE while AIWFCIY or RATCT shouldnโt).

PYRO, if it were to make the 2021 Year End chart, would be the third 'regular charting' hit to make the Year End chart while missing a week due to Christmas (and the first to do so without making a prior Year End chart). PYRO missed one week (the 12/26/2020 chart), and oddly enough was the #100 song on the 1/2/2021 chart that BL went recurrent. That week at #100 might be what helps PYRO make the Year End chart. Now, if Blinding Lights were to finish as Year End #2, it would join Only Human (#78 in 2019 and #77 in 2020) in charting one spot away from its first year end position.
