At this point, I don't think Love Again will make it to 2022 before going recurrent. Same deal as with Take My Breath (low pop radio callout scores included), except its numbers were never that strong to start with. It is already bleeding a lot of radio audience. I'd be really surprised that it makes it past 20 weeks in the Hot 100.

I Can't believe the chart year is already almost over. That went by quickly. I'm hoping Happier Than Ever makes it. If it were any stronger, Stay could've finished in the top 10. Now I'm curious about the January to December year end, but that's a couple months away. I've always enjoyed reading these predictions (since I found Pulse in 2016.)
Are there any potential hopefuls for the 2022 year end right now?

I hope 2022 will at least be more active than this year in terms of music releases.

That’s completely fair, my friend. Real life should always take priority over a niche set of predictions. Take as much time as you need.

It would be interesting if AIWFCIY places lower on 2021's year end compared to 2020's. I personally thought the opposite would occur.

Not only that, but Rockin Around The Christmas Tree is also gonna be on the YE. I’m okay with the song being there, only cause I find it funny that Brenda Lee will have a YE hit in the 2020s.

I personally thought the opposite would occur. 2020 is likely the highest it will ever be, both because it got a massive spike due to a 25th anniversary video & because it was unnaturally high due to COVID dropping the points per week of everything past like March.

Likely; it is curious to see if it will make another YE in 2022 though.

I'll be fine with "Todo De Ti" and "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)" missing as long as "Drinkin' Beer, Talkin' God. Amen" and especially "Girls Want Girls" also miss. The sacrifice is worth it.
Glad to see "WHOLE LOTTA MONEY" also projected to miss - really not a fan.

Also, its 2019-20 chart run happened at a time when UGC still counted and thus points for the late 2019 hits were generally much higher, so it was at an advantage in that regard.

^A couple of other things to consider are that it got the new video in 2019 and while AIWFCIY also ended up charting 7 weeks in 2020,the last week started on Christmas day for streaming and song sales, and the radio tracking week actually for it on December 28.

the feeling of last year's year-end list release felt like a grand finale, this year its like "okay that's over, moving on" It’s because last year’s music was a lot more...eventful. The music itself was so exciting, and it was a massive bright spot for a year that otherwise spent every waking moment finding new ways to destroy our collective sanity. This year’s pop music has not been bad by any means, but it feels a lot...quieter, and less distinctive. Which is kinda true for 2021 as a whole. And whereas music was one of the only things we could cling onto last year, this year we’ve had a sorta return to normal, which includes other hobbies returning.

Top Artists Year-End should also be a bit easier to predict this year than past years (hint: no touring, no Social 50 chart. Just Hot 100/Billboard 200) so I went ahead and put together some non-final projections. Top Artists of 2021 (Week 49 of 52) 1 | Olivia Rodrigo | 2 | Drake | 3 | The Weeknd | 4 | Ariana Grande | 5 | Taylor Swift | 6 | Morgan Wallen | 7 | Pop Smoke | 8 | Luke Combs | 9 | Doja Cat | 10 | Justin Bieber |

Anyway, preview for my list coming out soon. If you wanna get tagged and know what's worth celebrating from this year, just let me know (and don't worry, LAROI won't actually be on my list. The people in the thumbnail are just what I think are the breakout stars this year)

dua having the #1 song and potentially top 10 album of the year and still missing the top ten artists seems so wrong

dua having the #1 song and potentially top 10 album of the year and still missing the top ten artists seems so wrong Both are cases of her only having 1 hit title in comparison to artists with multiple hit titles. "Levitating" is for sure a smash, but she hasn't had any other top 20 hit this year (let alone a top 10/top 5 to give her notably more points). "Future Nostalgia" also performed well, but aside from Bieber/Olivia, every artist in the top 10 has multiple albums charting every week throughout the entirety of 2021 so they ended up moving more albums total than her. Bieber for example, at #10, has the Justice album that did similarly to Future Nostalgia in 2021. Yet on the Hot 100 he had Peaches/Holy/Stay (3 big hits) and even Anyone/Essence/Monster reached top 10 and charted for a few months each despite not necessarily being big in 2021.

Easy On Me — what do we think? I’ve been out of the loop for a hot minute.

Interesting fact that I just noticed, if DaBaby does get credited on Levitating, it will be the fourth year in a row that the chart topper will feature a black man.

Even better if he gets dropped from Levitating then there will have been more #1 songs of the year in the last decade from openly gay people than from rampant homophobes

I'm excited that Dua Lipa will be the first woman since Kimbra (in 2012) to have the top song of the year - and if DaBaby isn't credited, first solo since Adele in 2011.
The closest we had between the 2013-2020 period was Katy Perry with "Dark Horse" (#2 in 2014, and hot take, I'm glad "Happy" blocked it, because it's by far Katy's worst hit), Bebe Rexha with "Meant To Be", and Halsey with "Without Me" (#3 in their respective years, and while I do enjoy Halsey's song, the top 2 of 2019 was perfect). Also Dua Lipa reaching #4 last year with "Don't Start Now".
Other big hits with female artists were unfortunate to have their run caught between years, the most notable example being "Closer". Others just didn't have much longevity after their performance peak ("Hello" and "7 rings").
Either way, amazing achievement for Dua, and so deserved! 🔥

Honestly kinda surprised BTS didn't make the Top 10
