Thanks to oldbloke @ UKMix:
BILLBOARD YEAR WEEK 49: BB200
Rank Estimated EAS TITLE Artist
13 1,129,000 AFTER HOURS The Weeknd 32 809,000 THE HIGHLIGHTS The Weeknd
Based on the Billboard 200 charts dated November 21, 2020 - October 23, 2021. Only charted EAS count.
These combined would be 1,938,000, which would be firmly in the #3 position, and slightly below Sour at #2. So, if Abel hadn't released The Highlights, AH would have likely been the #3 album of 2021.

Not quite. The Highlights including some songs that aren't in After Hours. That said, most of its EAS would still probably count toward After Hours.

How does Levitating compare to previous year-end number ones? I assume it’s pretty weak, but the longevity is unheard of outside of last year’s number one and two, so idk.

Points wise, it's still stronger than Love Yourself in 2016. Weaker than every other year since 2013. But to be fair, real points have been on a downward trend since 2018, and the weakness of radio from the pandemic combined with Billboard removing UGC last year makes it hard to compare this year to any year except 2020.

Thanks! It’s still in the top 10 so I think it’s got a little gas left to hopefully pass some other years.

Does anyone mind doing up a list of the strength of Year End Number 1s of the last 15-20 years? I'd be interested to see the strongest

Stay could sneak out a #11 finish on the YE over Butter if the 11/20 tracking week is counted towards 2021.

dua having the #1 song and potentially top 10 album of the year and still missing the top ten artists seems so wrong Both are cases of her only having 1 hit title in comparison to artists with multiple hit titles. "Levitating" is for sure a smash, but she hasn't had any other top 20 hit this year (let alone a top 10/top 5 to give her notably more points). "Future Nostalgia" also performed well, but aside from Bieber/Olivia, every artist in the top 10 has multiple albums charting every week throughout the entirety of 2021 so they ended up moving more albums total than her. Bieber for example, at #10, has the Justice album that did similarly to Future Nostalgia in 2021. Yet on the Hot 100 he had Peaches/Holy/Stay (3 big hits) and even Anyone/Essence/Monster reached top 10 and charted for a few months each despite not necessarily being big in 2021. Yeah, I think it's the "negative" (not really negative, just not positive) side of having such longevity with all her hits, is that she'll never have like multiple hits in a year or songs being big hits at the same time, it seems like each one takes its time and stays longer

Dua will likely have multiple YE hits, even if "We're Good" is likely going to be towards the bottom of the list. Last year she managed to have one big one and one smaller one, and that seems likely to be the pattern of her eras.

I noticed this too. 2018 had New Rules which was a big hit and then IDGAF was a smaller one 2020 was Don't Start Now and Break My Heart 2021 was Levitating and We're Good

Does anyone mind doing up a list of the strength of Year End Number 1s of the last 15-20 years? I'd be interested to see the strongest In the first post on this thread, I gave links to all of the year end projections on Pulse since 2013. You might want to check that out. No projections exist from before then, and even if they did, you can't really compare points today to before 2013, since that was the year YouTube was added to the formula. Of course, I did calculate point totals for the J-D lists from 2010-2012 and the points there should be fairly accurate, but again, you can't really compare those to today

Random question did anyone remember that Diamonds by Sam Smith was like an actual hit this year? I just updated my personal records of the top 100 biggest songs to peak in 2021 by points of the full chart run (shoutout to rockgolf for the idea) & Diamonds is above Just The Way and Yonaguni as of now even though the song feels like such a distant memory to a forgotten time.

xtynaaguilera99 If you’re basing these on Austin’s predictions, you accidentally missed Goosebumps, which should be #85 over DBTGA and TDT with 158.5k points.

But didn’t Goosebumps also chart in 2020 too? It should have less points on the J-D YE metric than it has on the actual YE. EDIT: I forgot it was released in 2021 😂

It debuted on January 30th of this year, so all of its points will count.

It's essentially a 2020 hit that was caught between years. Most of its points came in 2020

I remember being sad that it fell off too early to make the YE

The original was released in 2016, and made the 2017 YE, although it seems like last year.

"Take My Breath" and "Happier Than Ever" getting locked in the next couple weeks - let's go! 🔥 2021's Year-End is looking so good! inverse As Mike said, "Diamonds" was sadly caught between years, and indeed, it does feel like a distant memory now, especially with Sam Smith not pushing or promoting anything since. A real shame, since I quite enjoy the song. The pandemic really screwed their album rollout. It was supposed to be titled "To Die For", which was understandably changed given the circumstances. But then "I'm Ready" was a total underperformance (and just a disappointing song overall), with its Olympics themed music video feeling dated on arrival. When the rebrand came around, "My Oasis" was chosen as the new lead single, but it was too lowkey to make any significant noise. "Diamonds" was a great pick, but by then the momentum built with "Dancing With A Stranger"/"How Do You Sleep?" was long gone.

I’m hoping Easy on Me doesn’t have enough steam so Happier Than Ever could make it.

I’m hoping Easy on Me doesn’t have enough steam so Happier Than Ever could make it. As impressive as it would be to have Adele making the Year End with only four weeks on the charts ( again), I agree. I'm not sure if they're direct competition, but "Happier Than Ever" will only get a chance to make it this year, while Adele is already guaranteed for 2022.

The bigger problem is that Goosebumps/DBTGA will fill that void if EOM loses too much steam, leaving TDT stuck at #101, but at least EOM is safe for both 2022 and the 2021 Jan.-Dec. YE.

Hopefully not, I'm responding to the YE Tweet that said Easy on Me could make it in the final week and I see the ones that can clinch at that same time and the one at the end is Happier Than Ever so that's why I said it.
