Do songs these days lack a third chorus because they want people to re-stream more times? They just feel so short and unfinished, it annoys me. Would it have killed Shawn and Justin to sing their chorus a third time? Personally I love this new trend & hope it stays. Lots of songs really don’t need the 3rd chorus

My favourite structure is actually verse 1-chorus-verse 2-chorus-verse 3-verse 4

Songs need bridges or they lack intensity

I LOVE Tiny Dancers structure which is (without checking) Verse-Verse-Prechorus-Chorus (then some more stuff lmao). It builds it up really nicely into the powerful chorus, Love it.

Megan Thee Wallen sounds like the country x rap mashup we need.

To be fair Megan isn't really a huge streaming force, on Spotify at least. Her most streamed song as a lead is Savage remix with 247M followed by Savage (solo) 244M. For a viral tik tok song that's not amazing. So her "underperforming" isn't shocking to me.

Would it have killed Shawn and Justin to sing their chorus a third time? Tbh I'm not really bothered by shorter song structures. It's didn't really start in the streaming age but I much prefer it to the ringtone rap era where songs would drag on with meaningless verse after meaningless verse. Also some songs really do benefit from a shorter structure. I mentioned this before but a song like WHATS POPPin was more enjoyable when it was just hook-verse-hook, as opposed to four verses and the hook being sung four times.

I think it really depends on the type of song, from genre to the lyrical content itself.
But yeah, shorter songs tend to give the impression of feeling unfinished and not the best possible version of themselves.

With the dual mini-album bombs, it looks like we'll be saying goodbye to Tap In (19 weeks), Runnin (7 weeks), Mood Swings (20 weeks), The Woo (20 weeks), Got What I Got (20 weeks), 24 (14 weeks), Heather (14 weeks), and Adore You (50 weeks)

I wonder what happened with Heather? It seems like a lot of people were thinking it would at the very least go top 20 but it just kinda fizzled out... I’m worried that You Broke Me First is about to be on the same path :(

I think it really depends on the type of song, from genre to the lyrical content itself. But yeah, shorter songs tend to give the impression of feeling unfinished and not the best possible version of themselves. "Short" doesn't have to mean unfinished or short-changed. The Beatles did a lot with song structure, often within 3 or so minutes (look at "I Want To Hold Your Hand" with verses, bridges, etc and yet is under 2:30). Motown did the same. For instance The Supremes' "Come See About Me" manages to have verses, pre-choruses, and a bridge and yet clocks in under 2:30.

When I complain about song length and short songs, it isn’t because I want songs to be drawn out. There are plenty of great songs and hits that are under 3 minutes. But if a song feels rushed or incomplete or just doesn’t have room to breathe, that’s where I don’t like it. Nowadays I seem to notice more when I’m listening to songs from the 80s and 90s where, if this song existed today, so much of it (usually instrumental breaks and repeated parts) would have been cut out and it just wouldn’t be as good. Prechoruses that build anticipation for a great chorus, instrumental sections after a chorus or before a bridge that give you a second to catch up or even take in what you just heard, a closer that lets you down or doesn’t end abruptly, even an introduction that builds up to something. It’s all about the contrasts within a song. Without that, the song is punch-punch-punch and it gets tiresome, particularly when every song is so to-the-point.

Mood - Chorus > Verse 1 > Chorus > Verse 2 > Chorus
Therefore I Am - Chorus > Verse 1 > Pre Chorus > Chorus > Verse 2 > Pre Chorus > Chorus > Bridge > Chorus
Laugh Now Cry Later - Chorus > Verse 1 > Pre Chorus > Chorus > Verse 2 > Bridge > Pre Chorus > Chorus > Verse 3 > Pre Chorus > Chorus
Positions - Verse 1 > Pre Chorus > Chorus > Verse 2 > Pre Chorus > Chorus > Bridge > Chorus
Blinding Lights - Verse 1 > Pre Chorus > Chorus > Verse 2 > Pre Chorus > Bridge > Chorus > Outro (basically a chorus again)
Lemonade - Chrous > Verse 1 > Chorus > Verse 2 > Chorus
There are people who sing 3+ choruses in their songs in the top 10 lool

Nothing new, Grammys are ѕhit and have been for quite some time. Their viewership will tank like every year, and they will become more and more irrelevant as years go by.
Serves them right.

It seems now that a lot more nominations can be made per award, they're handing them out left and right like candy to kids on Halloween.

Black Pumas better sweep and enter the charts, I thought they would get snubbed 100%.
Also how in earth did they snub so many people, Fiona Apple? The Weeknd? Chloe x Halle? They easily deserve main category nominations for their albums.

Surprised Morgan Wallen didn't get a Best New Artist nom. He's been a streaming monster and one of the biggest country stars in a year where country has surged on the charts. Also, LUKE COMBS GOT COMPLETELY SHUT OUT?

Also, LUKE COMBS GOT COMPLETELY SHUT OUT? Yeah, this round of Grammy's nominations was not particularly kind to male country artists, for better or worse Pretty sure Eric Church was the only big male solo act to get nominated for anything, for Stick That In Your Country Song in the Best Solo Performance category.
