Then there'd be songs charting for literally several years. A couple years maybe but not several The longest running songs on the recurrent chart only run about 100 weeksLmao "only run about 100 weeks" That's still about 2 years of songs being on the charts when they've clearly passed their expiration date. I know I get irritated at Christmas songs coming back but you can make the argument they're popular around December. If Shape of You and Perfect were still on the charts TWO YEARS after they peaked and stayed on the charts for 52 weeks, when the year-end comes around would you really say they were the biggest songs of 2020?

^At least the rules for the year-end in the US make more sense, because only the weeks where a song or album charts are counted towards it. In the UK, it isn't the case, which has resulted in Mr. Brightside appearing in the year-end Singles chart for several year. I can see the latter happening for the Global 200 and Global 200 excluding US year-end given that the really popular song worldwide tend to peak in different places at different times.

Lmao "only run about 100 weeks" That's still about 2 years of songs being on the charts when they've clearly passed their expiration date. I think you are contradicting yourself a bit with the two statements.
And yes, Sunflower was more consumed song in 2020 than more than half of the top 100 year-end songs. In 2020 did more people hear Sunflower or a random #60 song on the Year-End? - Sunflower wins.
I personally am fine with the recurrent rule (#50 /20 weeks, the other one not so much) & with Christmas songs charting. The thing that i don't agree with is once a song goes reccurent it is almost impossible to chart again.
Example. A song is #17, and thanks to christmas week or Drake album bomb 9 songs enter in top 15. The song gets pushed out of top 25, and goes super reccurent. Next week the event (holiday/album bomb) has passed and the song should be top 20 again, but it is not allowed to chart. - This needs to be changed.
The reccurency rules are fine for the purpose of allowing newer songs to chart. But if a song is so bit that it is #25 after 100 weeks then so be it. - This is impossible but whatever.

Yikes.

Gosh a 150+ week song on the H100... And this is with influx of Xmas albums. 4 of these were in the Top 20 the previous week - three because of vinyl 'manipulation' at Wal-Mart.
18 16 9 270 Hamilton: An American Musical, Original Broadway Cast 2 24 8 36 414 Greatest Hits, Queen 8 36 12 23 400 Rumours, Fleetwood Mac 1 39 34 27 182 This One's For You, Luke Combs 4 57 53 51 159 Diamonds, Elton John 7 62 52 59 272 Traveller, Chris Stapleton 1 67 19 79 654 Legend: The Best Of..., Bob Marley And The Wailers 5 etc.
'Circles' being denied opportunity to return to Top 25 when Holiday disappears + year-end countdowns + all the AC airplay is simply a CRIME against the Charts.
