Pretty amazing how much "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" grew over the years.
Not gonna lie, though, some titles from the forgotten songs sound super intriguing - "Baby's First Christmas", "Santa and the Satellite (Parts I & II)", "Santa Claus Is Watching You", and "Marshmallow World" in particular. 😄

"Marshmallow World" in particular. 😄 This one is sung by Darlene Love on the famous Phil Spector holiday album. I love it as much as "C(BPCH)." Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, and even Brenda Lee have all done versions. It doesn't seem to get covered much anymore, though She & Him did a version a few years ago. "Rockin'" has grown over the years. I assume its heavy feature in Home Alone helped, among other things.

Meanwhile, "Go Crazy" and "Bang!" are nearly tied for best net positive scores. It's really baffling. "Levitating" is such an instant feel-good song (so is "Dynamite" really), and it's sad that radio listeners aren't vibing to it at all for now. Hopefully it might be due to lack of familiarity, though, but we'll have to wait and see.

It’s probably because even for a Christmas song, the lyrics are just incredibly corny. The opening line of the final A section (it’s in AABA form like many 20th-century Christmas songs that get covered today) goes “It’s a yum-yummy world in the winter.” I certainly don’t want to hear a Christmas song that reminds me of that awful Justin Bieber song from this year.

In the Mediabase weekly top 40 current radio callouts Go Crazy edged Bang! for the best net positive net score while Levitating has the lowest one.
kworb's Billboard Radio Songs Estimates 2020/12/11
1(=) 24kGoldn - Mood (feat. iann dior) 136.47(-0.22) 2(+1) Chris Brown & Young Thug - Go Crazy 110.90(+1.91) 3(-1) Ava Max - Kings & Queens 109.53(-0.26)
Chris Brown having the 2nd biggest song on radio... Don’t know if i’m proud of him or despise this but the song is actually so good. Did no guidance perform this well on radio?

Peaked at #5 on overall radio, but performed especially well on Urban/Rhythmic/Urban AC as you'd expect. Don't think it did all too well on Pop, unlike Go Crazy.

AT40 greatest Christmas hits of all time circa 1973 --- several of these versions still popular today THE TOP 40 CHRISTMAS HITS OF ALL TIME Original air date DECEMBER 22, 1973 27. I YUST GO NUTS AT CHRISTMAS-Yogi Yorgesson I remember hearing a replay of this countdown when I was a kid, and Casey Kasem didn't play the song at #27, because it was done in a Scandinavian dialect and Casey said something along the lines that that sort of thing just wasn't funny anymore. Casey was woke almost 50 years ago!!

Holiday Songs Already Make Up Half of the Streaming Songs Chart By Kevin Rutherford 12/11/2020 Click to copywww.billboard.com/articles/business/chart-beat/9498353/holiday-songs-already-make-up-half-of-the-streaming-songs-chart/At this time in 2019, 16 out of 50 were seasonal tunes. We’re still in the first third of December, but that’s not stopping holiday titles from taking over Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart weeks before Christmas itself. On the Streaming Songs list dated Dec. 12, the 50-position chart is over 50% holiday, with 26 songs dotting the tally. Comparably, at the same point in 2015 (chart dated Dec. 12, 2015), a whopping zero holiday songs were on the chart. Leading the way: Mariah Carey’s seminal holiday favorite “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which zooms 7-1 with 26.4 million U.S. streams, up 50%, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It’s Carey’s sixth week at No. 1 with the song; it first reached the top of the list dated Jan. 5, 2019, followed by four weeks over the holiday season in 2019-2020. Six of the chart’s top 10 is made up of holiday songs, too, with “All I Want for Christmas Is You” followed by Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” (No. 3, 24.2 million), Andy Williams’ “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” (No. 4, 20.1 million), Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” (No. 5, 18.9 million), Dean Martin’s “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow” (No. 8, 17.8 million) and The Ronettes’ “Sleigh Ride” (No. 9, 17.4 million). The latter in particular reaches the top 10 for the first time. Additionally, one Christmas title reaches Streaming Songs for the first time: Bing Crosby & The Andrew Sisters’ “Mele Kalikimaka (Merry Christmas)” at No. 41 (11.6 million streams). Comparatively, on the Dec. 12, 2019, tally, Streaming Songs was comprised of 16 holiday titles. Going back further, in 2018 at the same point, there were 11 (Dec. 15, 2018 chart), 2017: two (Dec. 16, 2017), 2016: one (Dec. 17, 2016) and 2015: zero (Dec. 12, 2015). The all-time record for most holiday songs on Streaming Songs at one time came earlier this year, when 31 entries reached the list dated Jan. 4, 2020.

The more unfamiliar a song is, the worse the callouts (typically).

So when is RATCT breaking the weeks at #2 record? That would take years, assuming it never gets to #1. Doesn't it only have 1 week at #2 as of now?

Imagine what "chart records" we would be talking about if there was not a 50+ year gap in the charting of Christmas songs due to all the quirky rules

For anybody not caring about holiday songs, the ARIA Singles chart only had four holiday songs plus Holiday this week in its top 50.

It gets a lot of play on the radio here each year through a cover by Canadian artist Kim Stockwood from about 20 years ago.

Sales, airplay and digital downloads would still be relevant factors.
As I tracked in another thread there was significant recurrent chart activity for many of the songs prior to streaming

The US YouTube music video chart continues to be really week with Life is Good at #1 in its 48th week charting. The rest of the top 10 have charted for 6 or fewer weeks.

Imagine what "chart records" we would be talking about if there was not a 50+ year gap in the charting of Christmas songs due to all the quirky rules And then you had 'exceptions'... 1) The Eagles coming off the Hotel California era released 'Please Come Home For Christmas' (1978), which was the highest charting Christmas song since the early 1960s(?) 2) Band Aid 'Do They Know it's Christmas?' (1984) - BUT missed the Top 10 despite selling something like 2 million in US during its first month. Granted there were that many 'major' Christmas releases, but I bet songs like the Carpenters 'Merry Christmas Darling,' (#1 on Billboard's Holiday Chart) Elton John 'Step into Christmas' and Wings 'Wonderful Christmastime' certainly must've generated enough sales interest to have charted on H100. I don't know if Radio & Records or Cashbox charted Christmas songs either. Streaming now captures what people have been doing for decades - playing Xmas music at home. There was just no way to quantify it.
