I on the other hand feel that if anyone other than Taylor (or to an extent Dua) wins AOTY, there will be some form of backlash.

I don’t give a shit about the politics of a backlash. The issues behind the scenes are real but none of that is solved by denying a deserved win. folklore deserves AOTY and quite frankly the only way it doesn’t win is because of reasons having nothing to do with earning it.

I don’t give a s**t about the politics of a backlash. The issues behind the scenes are real but none of that is solved by denying a deserved win. folklore deserves AOTY and quite frankly the only way it doesn’t win is because of reasons having nothing to do with earning it. I think Dua is just as deserving. I'd even accept a Haim win, if only because of the wtf-ness of this year's nominees. IMO, anyone else winning would simply be the Grammys embarrassing themselves and wouldn't really reflect as an L for Taylor, Dua, or anyone else.

It’s certainly a strong album, but I don’t think it holds a candle to the overall body of work of folklore.

Agree to disagree...conventional thought certainly narrows the race to those two.

I guess as an unbiased voter, I wouldn’t want to see an artist sweep all of their nominations, especially if it’s a toss up between two albums I really enjoyed. At that point, I’d give AOTY to my fave and Pop Vocal Album to the other to spread the wealth (in the instance that they were both nominated in those categories). So even if Taylor loses Pop Vocal Album, I don’t think it affects her chances for the Big 3 categories.

Didn't love Taylor’s medley. After TLPS I feel like she should have sung a medley that told a story. There’s so many options to choose from. It was a good performance but she could have truly had a moment.

I was totally into the performance until the end. It just sort of petered out. It needed something more at the end of Willow. The best part of August was left out too so I feel like there was more potential.

I just don’t get the point of performing August? Did it fit thematically or does she just really like the song? Or is it the next single or something?

She certainly earned and more than deserved this win for arguably her best album. So happy for her! Hated that dress (like, jesus), but at least she didn't fudge up her acceptance speech with any cringey lines!

She kept that acceptance speech very short and gave half of it to Aaron, which was very smart given the controversy and potential for backlash.

I wonder if Evermore will score any nominations next year?! BPVA. If voting happened today, yup. But the second half of the year is gonna be stacked with big releases. Between the album being a bit old by the time voting happens and the committee probably trying to avoid another Taylor win for the optics, she's probably gonna have a way more muted showing next year (maybe more like Lover where she got three nods but was never the favorite).

I think she can swing a pop album nod. She has enough clout and the album had a warm reception. But I don't think it's AOTY material at all, especially compared to folklore.

Agreed, evermore didn’t make nearly the same splash as folklore did. It was overshadowed by so many other things, whereas folklore truly had its own moment for weeks.

I can’t express how relieved I am that she won the biggest award of the night. Someone mentioned it in the Grammy thread, but the fact that she’s won AOTY with three different genres of albums is just... speechless.
I’m not mad about cardigan and exile losing. Tbh I was surprised cardigan was nominated at all, and exile never had the steam or promo to really justify a win. I’m fine with a Pop Vocal Album loss if it means Taylor doesn’t face any backlash for winning AOTY. It’s cute when a new trendy artist sweeps, but Taylor’s in a spot that when she wins, it’s obnoxious to non-fans. This AOTY will cement folklore as one of her most successful era’s and rightfully so.

I would like to see her songwriting recognized in the general field, which is crazy when you think about that is what truly sets her apart. Other than that, I am guessing her Grammy heyday will be done for a while.

Yeah she is overdue for SOTY I mean, they kind of shot themselves in the foot when they didn’t promote exile and send it to pop. That would have been a shoo-in for ROTY/SOTY had they played their cards right.

That would have been a shoo-in for ROTY/SOTY had they played their cards right. Absolutely agree. There had to be reasons for not pushing it, because it’s just a very obvious hit ballad. Oh well, at least it got made in the first place.
