I mean, they kind of shot themselves in the foot when they didn’t promote exile and send it to pop. That would have been a shoo-in for ROTY/SOTY had they played their cards right. Absolutely agree. There had to be reasons for not pushing it, because it’s just a very obvious hit ballad. Oh well, at least it got made in the first place. Yeah it was an obvious missed opportunity but maybe a blessing in disguise. It really would have been the “Say Something” of 2020 but at least Taylor isn’t overexposed right now and hasn’t experienced any backlash.

Yeah she is overdue for SOTY I mean, they kind of shot themselves in the foot when they didn’t promote exile and send it to pop. That would have been a shoo-in for ROTY/SOTY had they played their cards right. good point! If I ever get to interview her I will ask why she didn't release Cruel Summer and Exile! Folklore would still be top 10 if she pushed Exile.

I am relieved her AOTY speech was not cringy this time and that the awards were spread around, so there will be no backlash. It was also good to have Laura Sisk up there for optics considering she’s been criticized before for getting up on stage with a parade of male producers behind her. Giving most of the speech time to Aaron was also wise, so the spotlight was not just on her.
It will be interesting to see what she does next. We have seen her shift direction many times now based on Grammy recognition (or lack thereof). The last couple of nomination cycles have proven Taylor needs to top herself if she wants any love in the general categories; they did not hesitate to give her the cold shoulder with reputation and to a lesser extent with Lover, which were great records but subpar compared to 1989.
All in all, a great night to be a Swiftie!

Perfect ending at the very end if the night. I don‘t think Grammy totals are THAT important after reaching double digits, multiple artists have 12 or 14 or 17 or whatever high number of Grammys. Who cares in 5 years from now who won Pop Solo in 2021? What will stand the test of time however are her 3 AOTY‘s. An accomplishment that will follow her for the rest of her life.

I'm not sure if she can win it again particularly soon though unless she releases the album of the century or something... But winning SOTY would be cool and achievable I think, and help set her up for a shot at a 4th AOTY further down the line.

The AOTY trophy was definitely a win for her, but I will say given Folklore's win and its success both critically and commercially, she must feel immense pressure going into her next release. It is going to be highly scrutinized, much more so than Evermore because it fell under the Folklore umbrella and felt almost like an extension instead of stand-alone release. I wonder if she shifts direction again to lessen comparisons or continues down the folk/indie route (which long-term would probably be her best option).

I think she'll go for something completely different but yet still a natural evolution. I could see her bringing back some of the rock influences on Red. Honestly, her current collaborators would even lend themselves well to that, but the sound would hopefully allow the work to not be a direct comparison.

Someone in the Willow thread mentioned Mumford and Sons/Kings of Leon/HAIM as indicative of a direction, and that feels so...right. For pop radio, sure, though.

If Taylor doesn’t have an album planned to release by years end, imma need her to start promoting evermore again. champagne problems, tis the damn season, ivy, gold rush all have potential.

I really don't see neither Evermore/Folklore getting more promotion nor new material until next year. I think the next 12-18 months are going to be focused on the re-recordings. How much time is she going to spend promoting them or the scope of that promotion, I have no idea, but I doubt she releases something on top of those. Folklore and Evermore were the exception cause I consider them two parts of the same project.

I think she is best to leave this folklore/evermore sound behind her. We saw what happened with Lover when she goes on cruise control the material is meh. I think a change in sound is the right move, but nothing too jarring.
I also can't see her releasing a new album this year, she is going to want to submit Evermore at the Grammy's I can't see her having two bodies of work eligible in one grammy year. Obviously this is excluding the re-recordings.
Her career and sound right now is at a very cool place where she could pretty much do anything, it's very cool to see!

That was where I was leaning towards. If she wants to submit evermore for the 2022 Grammy’s, she needs to keep it from being buried by all the other releases and promote it. It’s a great album that got the bare minimum promotion tbh.

This folk era definitely feels like a "pandemic" sound and I believe she will move on from it quite soon. But I also think she won't fully return to pop. I think she will naturally progress from the folk sound to a rock-ish and psychedelic sound, kinda like what Tame Impala are doing. I still believe she is not done having success and she will probably plan out the next era to be big with multiple pre-album singles and radio pushes.

I ordered it from my local record store last week. I plan on preordering the Fearless (Taylor's Version) from her store when the album gets released in a few weeks.

She just released new digital covers to celebrate the album breaking vinyl sales record, as well as a 90s trend remix for Willow.
I wonder why the sudden interest in re-promoting evermore, not that I’m complaining. This album is brilliant and deserves much more recognition than it got.

She’s pushing for #1 as she’s currently projected to be #2 behind Olivia.

I admire the hustle but I'd prefer it if Ms. Olivia kept her #1 this week.
It's also not some sudden interest. It's been known for a while that months of orders would ship this week, so they knew this was probably one of the last real chances for the album to return to #1. Ms. Olivia kinda screwed that by not dropping that much during week two.
I think clearing 1m sold is a way bigger achievement right now for evermore over another week at #1.

That would actually be very, very hilarious if there was this gigantic stunt to rerecord 13 years worth of back catalog to regain rights to masters only for it to be deemed completely unnecessary not months into the endeavor.
I'd be okay with all the rerecordings suddenly ceasing to be a thing. Just give us the vault songs.

Tbh, I’m actually so here for the re-recordings. I still want her to own her original work, so if it’s her then great. But I also still want these TV albums!

There’s no chance that the re-recordings don’t happen - they’re so lucrative for suuuuuuch little effort.
Like, this would be a smart move to do even WITHOUT the Masters issue.
