Does Spotify only have the clean version? Why doesn’t champagne problems drop an “f” bomb there?
ETA: found it. Sorry!

Does Spotify only have the clean version? Why doesn’t champagne problems drop an “f” bomb there? I made the same mistake earlier of listening to the clean version until midway through. Both the explicit and clean versions are currently listed on her artist page and the explicit version can be found under the New Releases category as well.

Does Spotify only have the clean version? Why doesn’t champagne problems drop an “f” bomb there? It also has the explicit version, but for some reason when searching it promotes the clean version. You can find the explicit version on Taylor's artist page.

Champagne Problems is SO good!
First impressions are this is not as good as folklore. It’s still a nice listen, but not too exciting. And lacks the highs that folklore has. Definitely feels a bit top heavy for me, it hits a wall with “happiness”.

She could have kept this. Feels like an album full of unfinished sketches. It’s time to leave the woods.

I'm having a hard time getting through this multiple times. I respected folklore more than I actually loved it, but it worked as an album. The lyrics on this aren't as sharp, so many of the melodies fumble, the production is weaker and it doesn't gel as an album for me. folklore didn't have any outright stinkers on it either, while this one has several. Kind of a dud for me.

I quite like it overall, although I agree it's not as instant as folklore. I kind of wish she had just tacked this on as a Side B and re-released it as folklore: the evermore edition or something instead of a proper 9th album.
My early favourites are champagne problems, no body no crime, willow, tis the damn season, long story short, gold rush, tolerate it
I don't really like coney island or happiness and the production on closure takes me out. i don't like bon iver on evermore either (as of now).

Blows my mind this getting such negative response in comparison to Folklore. I guess it's just not as mainstream freindly. And I love Folklore, but the songwriting here is MIND BLOWING on every single track. Plus the production feels slightly more organic which is a plus to me. There is no doubt in my mind this is Taylor's magnum opus

I think she couldn’t win when it came to being compared with folklore. She was smart to drop this quickly in order to move on artistically. It works as a companion project that is still different enough and let’s her flex her creative muscles. I think evermore will be viewed as a real achievement down the road but the public is still on the last page (understandably).

Not a huge fan of the album, it's not really my cup of tea (much like Folklore). I do like "Willow", "Gold Rush" & "No Body, No Crime" though and will likely listen to them from time to time.

Okay but do we think Paul McCartney pushed back his album release cause Taylor warned him about evermore when they met for their Rolling Stone cover story? ...only to hold up the release of the physical deluxe editions for Friday the 18th and potentially block him anyway?

It seems to be charting higher than Folklore on Apple Music so far although that could just be because of less competition (Kid Cudi vs Logic + Pop Smoke + Juice WRLD).

This album...wow. Just wow. It's magnificent.
Taylor's foray into the folklorian woods has paid off tremendously. Her songwriting on evermore, as in its sister folklore, is at its top form. The production is enchanting; it transports you to another world, one where all of your troubles can be forgotten and you can just sit back and relax and marvel at the beauty around you. These songs and these two albums are both escapism in a beautiful form; they're rays of light amidst the sea of darkness that was 2020. For that alone, evermore does its job and does it marvelously.
Upon my first listen, I will admit that I wasn't as caught by evermore as a whole as I was by folklore. While folklore was VERY instant for me, a big handful of the songs on evermore needed to take another listen or two to finally capture me. But boy, did they ever.
I think that Taylor is going to be hard-pressed to escape the comparisons to folklore, particularly when she has marketed evermore as not only her whole-ass ninth album but also as literally folklore's sister. But in my opinion there's really no comparison. folklore remains her magnum opus, and it's going to be VERY difficult for any future Taylor Swift album to top it. But that's okay. I appreciate evermore for what it is--another beautifully written, beautifully executed album full of wonder and enchantment, a masterclass in turning poetry into song, another example of why Taylor Swift is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. This is an A+ record and I will not be shocked to watch it give Taylor another slew of nominations at the 2022 Grammy Awards (which btw are 100% NOT needed to legitimize this album's--or folklore's--beauty, greatness, or artistic merit, as we all know).
I'll probably be giving my thoughts on songs over the next while as they continue to wash over me, but I'll start by saying "willow" is THAT B*TCH and the music video was beautiful and genius. It was the most instant track on the record for me and that chorus will NOT get out of my head.

I reworked the track listing order last night. Listening back to it this morning, I’m blown away. It’s right up there with folklore for me now. The beauty with folklore is that it’s so mellow, you can have it in the background and it blends in. This album is a bit livelier but still really cohesive, like it’s telling a story. My preferred track list order:
1) evermore 2) willow 3) gold rush 4) closure 5) Coney Island 6) tolerate it 7) ivy 8) long story short 9) cowboy like me 10) Marjorie 11) Dorothea 12) champagne problems 13) ‘tis the damn season 14) happiness

It's up to 87 88 on Metacritic with 8 9 reviews. Now matches folklore.

I honestly wonder if there will be a "Part III" and it's sort of a little trilogy of albums during the pandemic. Honestly, I kind of expect a third album sometime in the spring. Where folklore is a fall album and evermore seems to have a winter aesthetic, I could see something for warming temps, a renewal theme for spring or something maybe? Potential titles could include "forevermore" "underscore" "wherefore" "longshore"

NO BODY, NO CRIME SHOULD HAVE BEEN A DUET WITH CARRIE UNDERWOOD AND SENT TO COUNTRY RADIO. I said what I said. Giving me Two Black Cadillacs vibes in all the right ways. Exactly. It's a very Two Black Cadillacs/Before He Cheats/Blown Away/Church Bells type of song and a Carrie duet would have been amazing. Still an absolute highlight though.

I feel if this wasn't following Folklore and labeled as its sister companion album reviews (critics aside, as it is doing well there) would be a lot more glowing as honestly the album houses incredible songwriting and is a lot more melodic (IMO) at its strongest points than Folklore. With that said, as many have stated, Folklore is her magnum opus so it was always going to be more harshly critiqued following and tbh, I think Evermore turned out as good as it possibly could have. Standing alone on it's own, it's a damn solid album (A standard IMO). If I am being honest, I almost think the songwriting on Evermore is stronger, but Folklore was just more of an event, a moment. It had the novelty of shift in sound and the surprise drop working in its favor. It was the perfect storm, one in a million, and as we know it's near impossible to capture lightening in a bottle twice, but her delivering an album of this quality months after her magnum opus just attests to the scale of her talent and quality of her musicianship.
It's an odd thing for me personally, because the album feels lighter somehow than Folklore, but simultaneously so much more depressing. lol Like, "Tolerate It", "Champagne Problems", "Happiness", and "Coney Island" had me on the verge of tears, but maybe that is just because it is hitting hard as I am in the midst of a breakup. Bittersweet is the word that comes up most often as I am listening. Beautifully sad.

She was always going to have an uphill battle following folklore; any album she released after was bound to pale in comparison to what is likely the best record of her career. I agree that evermore doesn't quite reach the highs of folklore, but it still holds its own.

The last 3 posts are all from you and are minutes apart. Pretty sure a MOD made a comment about not doing this earlier in the thread.

It's hard not to compare these albums - evermore is folklore's sister as Taylor said herself, and it came out only a few months after folklore which is the best-reviewed record of her career. It was obvious some skeptics were gonna say evermore was an artistic regression and nothing new from her but overall, Taylor released two great and really cohesive albums and I'm so happy to see them getting the praise they deserve! Personally I wouldn't mind getting another album from her in May/June if it's as good as its predecessors, just so she can close this "trilogy" these theories talk about.

Why is the lakes top 10 on iTunes? I assume album hype is helping but is that really it?

Gonna be honest I don't really see them as sister albums. Evermore feels nothing like Folklore to me

I kinda hope this is not true. Although I love both albums, I can't imagine her sustaining this sound for a third record and would like to see her explore a different genre going forward.

Its a lovely album! Doesnt have those standout tracks like The 1, Cardigan, Exile, August, etc. But it doesnt have any skips either. I loved that she presented it as Folklore sister, I want to create a playlist with only these 2 albums.
