You Say topping iTunes again. Wonder if it can rechart on recurrents at least. That update seems to have been a glitch on kworb's end, since it has remained at #3 elsewhere. But sales are probably close to what remains for it, so regarding your question, no. That said, I have no idea either why it reentered so high, as well as Lil Bit is at #1 in iTunes, One Too Many is at #4 and Before You Go is at #5.
All of them were performed during last night's finale of The Voice.

This is an obnoxious question since I should know, but when does the tracking week end for the Hot 100? Do digital sales and steaming have different dates? no. sales and streaming weeks both end at 9pm pacific on Thursday. Thank you! That bodes well for willow since all versions have fallen below AIWFCIY at this point. Funny seeing Taylor occupy the 9-12 spots tho!

Swift's website is offering a 31% discount on digital music through Thursday night. Forget "No Sleep Till Brooklyn"; there's no sleep in the Swift camp until No. 1 for "willow" materializes. Though I suspect if it doesn't happen, there will be some giggling about it and then some come Monday.

jeng- even more then, come Monday. I maintain that one act should not be ridiculed for tactics and others not- whether such tactics occurred back in the 90s/2000s or present day.

She might as well offer it for free or 5 cents. Obviously they aren't interested in making a profit just getting the song to #1. Just charge as little as possible.

Who set the rule that a single can't be lower than 39 cents to count? Billboard or the record labels? And why specifically that amount. It seems arbitrary to me.

Billboard set the rules, I believe- came about in 2011. That was fueled by Born This Way selling for 99 cents on Amazon; so, the threshold for albums was set at, I think, $3.49, and for singles, 39 cents.
Taylor- that is a funny bit. Limited supplies of digital downloads- sorcery, I tell ya.

I agree. If she wants the number 1 that bad. Then just let her have it.

Lol some of yโall are just haters. So what, we want musicians charging us MORE for music we can just stream/YouTube for free? I love how some of yโall complain about BTS charging $50 for an album and some of yโall complain at Taylor charging $.50 for a single that is free to stream. Someone will always be unhappy, so Iโm glad Taylor pays no mind to it. At the end of the day, a #1 is a #1 to the average person. Didnโt Born This Way sell 400k ALBUMS for 99 cents on opening week. I mean, promo is promo. If the label is willing to take a cut (in that case I think Amazon footed the bill), discounting only helps the song be more accessible to the consumer.
I will say it again, TAYLOR AINโT DOING ANYTHING WRONG. Sheโs not begging fans to use dirty tactics, sheโs not begging fans to buy it for her birthday, sheโs not shouting from the rooftops that she wants another #1. If fans want to rally and show their support by buying these downloads, then thatโs just the way it goes. Sheโs adapting to the changing climate and finding her place in this streaming-dominated industry. Taylor has always been a digital download-physical album heavy artist, and so this transition of having to rely on radio and streaming was never going to be easy for her. As a fan, Iโm glad sheโs playing the game and making it work for her.
Eventually iTunes will be forced to change its pricing model altogether anyways. $1.29 for a single song is ridiculous when you can stream unlimited songs for $10 a month. It is so past due at this point... this isnโt justification for Taylorโs promo, itโs considering the fact that I havenโt purchased a digital download since like 2016 (outside of Taylorโs and Kellyโs singles)
I was hoping for the demo version so I downloaded it immediately. So damn good!

I really hope billboard will post detailed thread on how Taylor got her number one the same they did with BTS but I know they will not.
The way so many of you are saying how smart she is by releasing 7 versions of one song in less than a week but you were attacking BTS for having one remix in the first week. Yeah of course white artist can do that and a poc will be attacked.

"willow" has strong streams and a good start on radio. her team is pushing sales extra hard to avoid a #2 debut. most of the other songs notorious for using this "chart hack" would not have been gunning for #1 without sales. That's the difference. what they are doing now is more comparable to Billie Eilish releasing limited edition "bad guy" cassettes to go number one, not "Life Goes On" or "Trollz."
this has nothing to do with Taylor Swift being white.

When those bad guy cassettes were released it was already a certified hit with multiple weeks at #2. willow is just another cardigan that will fall even harder a week after

Yeah of course white artist can do that and a poc will be attacked. People on this board have been roasting artists all goddamn year about these tactics, the Hot 100 thread during the week where Savage and Say So were battling for #1 was legendary, and the week after with the 6ix9ine and Justin/Ariana debacle. Justin himself was telling his international fans to use VPN's to get Yummy to #1 almost a year ago, Pulse was quick to laugh at him for it, the situation became more hilarious when the song didn't even reach #1. Taylor herself got some heat during the first week of ME!, when she was putting out bundle after bundle and still couldn't defeat Old Town Road. Which was also railed by insults when Nas X released 3 new remixes a week. I'm telling you, it's not just POC being attacked. Pulse has attacked many artists for pulling these tactics, and some people DO come to their defenses. That's just how it is. We had the Army going into full on defense mode during the week of LGO being #1.

Oh wow, yes she really does want that #1, and I hope this pushes her over the edge. As a fan, I'm about to download that demo, and it will be my first and only download... ok I might get the instrumental cause I love to sing! Taylor has released another two versions, and is now selling the song for 48 cents. At this point her team is stupid for discounting to 48 cents instead of just going balls out and making it 40 so it barely counts. They're trying to be cute with the 31% off cause of her 31st birthday. jeng- even more then, come Monday. I maintain that one act should not be ridiculed for tactics and others not- whether such tactics occurred back in the 90s/2000s or present day. Yep, definitely posters in here laughing at Swift but happy with tactics that benefitted their favs in the past. We all want our favs to win. If you like Taylor, you're rooting for her, and if you don't, you think these tactics are despicable. Tribalism at its finest.

Lol, the funny thing is that she is releasing remixes cause she wants to. I'm not denying that Taylor doesn't care about hitting #1, but I just thought that calling her shameless for releasing one remix at the time was dumb. You said she released the remix because it was her birthday and she wanted to, with no regard to charts - when I would hope most would realize that was the reason for the first remix, as well as the two remixes that followed. For the record, I didnโt acknowledge you thinking itโs dumb to call her shameless for the remix. All major artists have their tactics, but to not acknowledge it was a tactic and claiming it was simply because she wanted to and because it was her birthday is ignorant. Yeah I said she released it cause she wanted to and it was her birthday, because her tweet literally said she wanted something fun to dance to for her birthday. Again, this was at the time when she literally had just dropped one single remix, have you seen me defend her other two remixes since then? No.

I don't think this is actually Taylor's doing. I can't imagine her caring THAT much. Def Republic records doing it seems unlike her, I agree. Like all these moves make me so annoyed. And I know y'all love Taylor and so do I, but this is on BTS' level... (which to be fair, were probably also not actually involved in any of these remixes/discounts and rather their label did it)... this just annoys me a lot

Artists who don't care don't do this (Adele, Beyonce, etc). It's not a coincidence that the artists who do this stuff to get #1's are vocal about charts to begin with (Nicki, Bieber, etc) lol.

She definitely cares a lot, she's admitted to looking at the charts and she got so upset about reputation being snubbed for AOTY at the Grammy that she did a sonic 180 with the next album. Like you said, she keeps it to herself so she doesn't look too foolish.

It's just funny that last year we have a record-breaking 19-week #1 and a year later multiple one-week #1s. Crazy!
