The next two songs are seperated by a mere one point! First up is a song that was predicated by both ClevelandRox and bboat11 to be a top 5 contender...let's find out which song that was!

I'm still a long, long way from over you Don't think I've ever seen so many shades of blue They say the time will heal Don't know if I ever will 'Cause I made a long, long way from over you 7. “Long Long Way” Track: #8 Songwriters: Alan Jackson Total: 91 Average: 7.58 Std Dev: 3.87 (Median) {Songs Remaining} 1976 Good Time If You Want to Make Me Happy Never Loved Before Sissy’s Song Small Town Southern Man

Despite picking up seven top 5 rankings, “Long Long Way” exits next which is separated by only one point from our next song. Even with all of those top 5 rankings, it mostly remained just outside of that during much of its run as it couldn't quite overcome the two bottom 5 rankings from both myself and .indulgecountry. Given that, this certainly exceeded by own expectations as I wouldn't have taken this to be such a favorite amongst the group. Of those seven top 5s, both ClevelandRox and kw9461 placed this in their top 3 with an additional pair of top 10s coming its way as well. All in all, only four of the participants put this outside of their top 10 altogether.

After having lost not one but two singles in the bottom 3, we're now down to three. Will all three of them make it into the top 5?! Let's find out!

“If You Want to Make Me Happy” exits next and misses the top 5 by only seven points. For the most part this was a consistent top 5 contender for much of its run and only dipped outside of that a couple of times in the middle of its run. Cody Wants Out... kicked us off inside of there with a top 3 and would be joined inside the top 5 by myself and castleoblivion26 as well as kw9461 who loses their top 2 song. Both bboat11 and .indulgecountry placed this just shy of their own top 5 with two additional top 10s following. This remained inside the top 5 up until the final moments when a lone bottom 5 from ClevelandRox came along which was just enough to push this outside of that. Despite this not making the top 5, I'm pleasantly surprised by how well this performed as it was just one of those songs that I had no idea how it would do. It's certainly one of the standout tracks and therefore I'm happy that it'll be included in a future album tracks rankdown upon completion of this series.

I still plan on wrapping this up later on this evening, so I hope a few of you will be around for the finale. Speaking of, any predictions for how the top 5 might play out?!

"1976" can leave any time now. OTOH, I wonder if "Never Loved Before" can pull off a surprise victory.

5 - "Good Time" 4 - "Small Town Southern Man" 3 - "1976" 2 - "Never Loved Before" 1 - "Sissy's Song"
hopefully that is how it goes lol
tbh I think "Small Town Southern Man" will be in the Top 3 over "1976". Rooting for "Sissy's Song" to be #1 but wouldn't be upset if "Never Loved Before" was #1

Alright, let's dive into the top 5 and find out which two songs will be exiting first! A second participant will lose their #1 song as we kick things off, though :'(

As correctly predicted by castleoblivion26, the title track and second single "Good Time" exits first just as we dive into the top 5. Unfortunately that also means that .indulgecountry becomes only our second participant to lose their #1 song with bboat11 right behind him with a top 2. Despite this also picking up two additional top 5s from gardyfan and ClevelandRox, this actually was never really a top 5 contender and only found its way into there once early on and then finally at the very end with .indulgecountry giving it the edge. For the most part this rode out in the middle of the top 10 which is mostly due in part to it receiving two bottom 5s from castleoblivion26 and 🌺CountryLineDancer. Other than those two, the remaining participants placed this somewhere within their top 10. It should also be noted that this is a change from Alan's singles rankdown as it was actually "Sissy's Song" that left before "Good Time" (it in fact left inside the bottom 10!). Will "Sissy's Song" be able to land inside the top 2 or 3 this time?!

She flew up to Heaven on the wings of angels By the clouds and stars and passed where no one sees And she walks with Jesus and her loved ones waiting And I know she's smiling saying Don't worry 'bout me 4. “Sissy’s Song” Track: #9 Songwriters: Alan Jackson Released: March 2009 Billboard Peak Hot Country Songs: #9 Placement in Singles Rankdown: #56 out of 65 Total: 81 Average: 6.75 Std Dev: 4.35 (5th Highest) {Songs Remaining}1976 Never Loved Before Small Town Southern Man

The #1 rankings are now starting to fall as both castleoblivion26 and 🌺CountryLineDancer lose theirs with the exit of "Sissy's Song". Given that this was the last song to exit in the bottom 10 in Alan's singles rankdown, I am a bit surprised by how well this performed here as I wouldn't have expected it to be such a consistent top 5 contender. In fact, as you can see from its trajectory it was only outside of that a few times early on and otherwise maintained its top 4 status for the entirety of its run. That is thanks in part to the strong showing of support up top from two #1s as well as a top 3 from myself and two additional top 5s from bboat11 and ClevelandRox. All but two participants placed this inside their top 10 with only gardyfan and George Strait Junkie giving this the bottom 5 treatment. Speaking for myself, I connected with this song in a way this time around that I had never before as I was completing this just as I had lost my dog of almost 16 years. There was just something about the ending of the song with Alan singing "And I know she's smilin' sayin', don't worry 'bout me" that hit me like a ton of bricks and really choked me up. Looking back on Alan's singles rankdown, I know for sure that I underranked this one and can't believe that it took this long for me to finally connect with it.

Sissy is an amazing song. One of my fav ballad songs by AJ for sure. Can't believe it missed the top 3! On the other hand, glad Good Time is gone. It was pretty awful. Never Loved Before has to take #1!

I'd be shocked to see "Small Town Southern Man" miss #1 here. That's always been held up as one of his best singles by many iirc.

Alan's autobiographical song "1976" about him and Denise leaves us next which in turn is also our least polarizing song! This received a lot of support along the way with seven participants all placing this inside their top 3 including a #1 from George Strait Junkie. In fact, all but one of the participants placed this outside of their top 8 with Cody Wants Out...'s top 10 ranking being the lowest it received. Once this found its way into the top 3 it never exited and remained there for the entirety of its run. I certainly wasn't expecting this to be such a strong competitor, but it certainly was well-liked across the board. It should also be noted that only six points separated this from the top 2! As for the backstory behind the song, here is Alan in his own words:

Imagine how much better this era could've been if he would've swapped out "Country Boy" and "Bologna" as singles for "1976" and "Never Loved Before."

Girl I swear you got me acting crazy Half the time I don't know what my name is I'm the kind that like to take it slow and lazy And girl you got me running hot and haziest
Boy you got me burning like a rocket You stole my heart and stuck it in your pocket Now I got your face inside my locket I've really tried but I don't think I can stop it baby 2. “Never Loved Before” w/ Martina McBride Track: #11 Songwriters: Alan Jackson Total: 50 (Tied for #1) Average: 4.17 Std Dev: 3.16 (2ND LOWEST!)

And there's the big surprise I've been holding off on revealing! Both "Never Loved Before" and "Small Town Southern Man" were duking it out for the top spot from the get-go and in the end both finished with the same amount of points. This wasn't an easy tie-breaker to do at all especially since one of the songs was also our second least polarizing, but I had to go with the song that had more #1 rankings which was "Small Town Southern Man" with four compared to three for "Never Loved Before". I initially wasn't even going to place either song in the runners-up position and had both listed as the winner, but only one song can technically be declared the winner and therefore I had to make a decision. Making it even harder was that both songs spent an equal amount of time occupying both positions and it was a yin and yang run throughout the rankdown. No matter, we're all winners in the end hehe
