sad to see that "Never Loved Before" falls short but happy it tied at least! I like "Small Town Southern Man" but I've always felt it was a bit forgettable, so it being #1 feels wrong imo. Thanks for hosting tim! cannot wait for the next set! |

Considering that we’ve thus far completed more albums from the 2000 and 2010 eras, I’m going to switch gears a bit and go back to the 90s with two albums that were both released about this same time of year.
Released in September 1998, High Mileage was Alan’s seventh studio album which produced four hit singles on the Hot Country Songs charts: "I'll Go on Loving You" (#3), "Right on the Money" (#1), "Gone Crazy" (#4) and "Little Man" (#3). Upon its release in late 1998, "I'll Go on Loving You" became the highest-debuting single of Jackson's career at the time, entering the country charts at #35. Also included here is the track "A Woman's Love", which Jackson re-recorded in 2006 for his album Like Red on a Rose.
Released in late October 1999, Under the Influence was Alan’s eighth studio album which featured covers of other country artists' material. Three singles were released from the album including the Top 10 hit "Pop a Top" and “It Must Be Love” which became a No. 1 hit for him in the spring of 2000. Also released was “The Blues Man" which was a Top 40 hit in early 2000.
I’ve set the deadline for Wednesday, October 27th, giving y’all five weeks from tomorrow to complete them. These will also be the final two albums of the series for the year as I will be be pausing this over the holiday season.

High Mileage has my favorite song from Alan so I look forward to doing that one. Under The Influence will be a lot of fun as well because I've always felt that "The Blues Man" is such an underrated gem

Currently getting acquainted with High Mileage right now! It's by no means one of his best, but overall it's a solid album and one that I still find myself revisiting not just for the singles but also some of the album tracks. Speaking of, I'm most excited to see how those perform here over the singles. |

Yeeesssss, so thrilled to see "Never Loved Before" tied for the victory with the album's most well-known hit!!! I was honestly only hoping it could place in like the top 2-3 album tracks here, and would have been happy with a top 5 finish. So this is more than I had hoped for!! The fact that this wasn't released as a single is downright moronic. Based on how hot Alan still was at this time, and the fact that radio was probably hungry for a Martina song that they could actually play (Outside of "Anyway" they hadn't really latched on to anything since like 2004, but she was still one of the biggest female artists at the time so they would have played the right song), it seems like this would have had potential to be a pretty big hit, if not another #1 for both of them!

Oh I couldn't be happier with my top 2 ending in a tie for the win! Technically I guess the result was flipped but I'm giving them both #1 in my mind!
I remember thinking for sure "Never Loved Before" would be a single and each one released was just disappointing to see it not be chosen!

I know it has been unusually quiet within the country rankdown forum as of late, but I’m still hoping to close this out by this time next week as I’d like to avoid having to extend this into the month of November if at all possible.
