I've always viewed "Who's Cheatin' Who", "Little Bitty", and "Between the Devil and Me" as the three duking it out for the throne. But hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong...

This was the first AJ album I had as a kid and I used to listen to it constantly, and "Buicks To The Moon" was such an earworm that it has always been my favorite, even if I didn't fully grasp how clever the song was back then. If we do an album cut rankdown after the album series, you can pretty much put that one down as my #1. We most certainly will be doing one! I haven't decided yet if it'll be one big rankdown or split between decades with the '80s/'90s as one and the '00s/'10s as another. I'm happy to hear y'all's thoughts on that as I'll do whatever works best for the group as a whole. I've always viewed "Who's Cheatin' Who", "Little Bitty", and "Between the Devil and Me" as the three duking it out for the throne. But hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong... Well, I can tell you that one of those songs was in fact not one of three contenders duking it out for a spot at the top. Not only that, but the order in which the singles left from Alan's artist rankdown do not have any correlation at all to what transpired here in the album rankdown (aside from "A House With No Curtains"). Knowing that, let's find out which single leaves first as we enter the top 5!

In what is quite the reversal from Alan's artist rankdown, “Who’s Cheatin’ Who” bows out first inside the top 5! It in fact was not only the final single of the album to exit in his artist rankdown, but it dang near was a top 10 contender there as well as it left just a spot shy of that. This also clocks in as the second most polarizing song with about an even split of those placing this either in their top 5 or outside of that which included a lone bottom 2 from 🌺CountryLineDancer. A trio of participants lose their runner-up with LBTrocks becoming our next participant to depart with their #1 song. This actually looked like it might miss the top 5 altogether, but a combination of a last-minute #1 raking followed by a top 2 allowed this to jump back over "Buicks to the Moon".

Good start. This song is perfectly fine, but it's the weakest of the singles for me.
ETA: That was meant for "Cheatin" but I'm pleased w/ "There Goes" being out next, too!

Yet again, we see a reversal of fortune for "There Goes" as it is the third single of the album to exit here whereas in Alan's artist rankdown it was the second. In fact, it didn't even make the top 30 there! While this wasn't initially a top 5 contender, it was able to find its way there in the last quarter or so as all of the remaining participants at that point ranked this inside of there. All in all, this managed to pick up nine top 5 rankings overall which included a pair of runner-ups from both kw9461 and 🌺CountryLineDancer. It did pick up a lone last place ranking from Kanenrá:ke which also translated over into its lowest position during its run.

Yay, glad to see "Who's Cheatin' Who" bow out first in the top 5!! It is good, but it is also the single on this album that gets annoying the quickest upon repeat listens. I pretty much only listen to this one if I'm listening to an entire hits collection or something, but never seek it out on my own.
"There Goes" is great, but I pretty much expected it to be out first given the songs that were left. I think sometimes Alan's songs have an unnecessary "cheese-factor" that makes them polarizing, and this one kinda has that for some people with its mentions of her being a big old black widow spider and stuff. I think the chorus is super catchy though. Glad to see it hang on for a top 4 finish!!

Here are the Top 3!
Between the Devil and Me Everything I Love Little Bitty
All three of these songs were duking it out for a spot at the top over the course of the rankdown. Unfortunately the song that spent the most time there bows out next. Any guesses as to which one that might be?!

"Little Bitty" should be the obvious song to spend the most time at #1, but I can see it struggling a little towards the beginning based on what opinions I think I remember from some of the people who submitted first.

2. Between The Devil And Me (This one feels to me like the most "forgotten" of the songs that are left, but I have a feeling it might prove to have some impressive staying power yet!!) 1. Little Bitty Well look at that! BTDAM is slaying just as I thought it might! I'm still hoping "Little Bitty" can pull off a win, but you really can't go wrong with either of these! (I would have been thrilled with any of these top 4 winning, tbh)

"Everything I Love" is one that I was not as enamored with as a kid when it first came out, but it has gotten a lot better over time and with more life experience. It's a very mature song, that undoubtedly speaks to a lot of people who are fighting demons. I am happy to see it do so well!

Hmmm, I'm thinking the title track. Right you are as the title track does in fact leave next. Despite this barely making the top 30 in Alan's artist rankdown, it managed to be quite the #1 contender here where it actually spent the majority of its run positioned at. That is thanks in large part to all but one of the early rankings coming from within the top 5 which included a pair of #1s from Kanenrá:ke and gardyfan. It wasn't until the last quarter of the rankdown that it found itself on the outside looking in of the top 3 as it got saddled with two additional non-top 5s from 🌺CountryLineDancer and fearlessarrow which was in the form of a bottom 2.

"Everything I Love' has a gorgeous melody and the lyrics are great! I admittedly was not a fan of this song back in the day and it wasn't even until I revisited it again for Alan's artist rankdown that I truly began to have a new appreciation for it. I always used to find myself skipping over it on the album and the radio as I just didn't find it relatable I guess. Fast forward years later and I now totally get what Alan is singing about!

I am very happy with the Top 2, would absolutely LOVE to see "Between The Devil and Me" take #1 because it is easily one of my favorites from Alan in his entire career (ranked it at #2 in his singles rankdown) ETA: of course I posted this too late, and I knew it likely would not take #1 but I was hoping. Still happy it was in the Top 2! Thanks for hosting tim! cannot wait for the results for Drive!

Yay!!! Thrilled with this outcome!
"Between The Devil And Me" is one that I tend to forget about (they skipped it on his Greatest Hits Volume 2 for some reason, which is where I was first exposed to the rest of these songs), but I am always pleasantly surprised whenever I find myself revisiting it. That belted chorus is so powerful, how could you not love it!!
"Little Bitty" is just so fucking catchy though... I could understand potentially finding it to be annoying because it is just too catchy, but tbh there is not a single scenario where I have ever listened to this and not walked away with a smile on my face. This is Alan at his best!

Despite “Everything I Love” finishing over 15 points behind the winner, it actually was more of a nail-biter than that would lead you to believe as both that and the eventual top 2 songs were all jostling for a position at the top. It wasn't until the very near-end of the rankdown that the spread of points between them started to grow which allowed "Little Bitty" to finally come to rest at #1. While "Little Bitty" remained a consistent top 5 contender, it mostly hovered in and around the top 3 as a pair of bottom 3 rankings prevented it from overtaking the two songs ahead of it. In the end, though, five participants wound up placing this at the top of their list including someguy and Cody Wants Out... with another three coming late in the game from 🌺CountryLineDancer, bboat11, and fearlessarrow. "Between the Devil and Me" also put up a fight and was a strong contender in its own right as it too was a consistent top 5 contender for the entirety of its run. Despite a lone last place ranking from someguy, the remaining participants all placed this at or just outside of their top 5 with myself, George Strait Junkie, and castleoblivion26 putting it at #1.
