"All I Want for Christmas Is You" has already hit #1 previously and I think I'm gonna make the executive decision to only have the "Latest Song to Peak" column list the latest new song. That means there is only December 9th specific news for this week. Thanks, Christmas freeze! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing• Mariah Carey, as explained, returns to the top and automatically beats out Jack Harlow (Latto on the Excl. US chart) to become the top American on the charts. • Speaking of Latto, though not really, "Seven" does what it did on the Excl. US chart last week and once again beats out "Standing Next to You" on the main chart this week, becoming the definitive top Korean song again. • Australia is the next country to get hit by Christmas. Stray Kids and their hit single "Lalalala" tumble down the charts, giving plenty of room for "Snowman" by Sia to once again become the Australian hit for December. • Thailand makes a return to the global charts, once again through a K-pop group. Thai singers Pharita and Chiquita of brand new group BabyMonster put Thailand back on the charts as their first single "Batter Up" debuts on both. • For the first time in ages, and only on the Excl. US chart, Mexico is not led by Peso Pluma. "Según Quién" with Mexican singer Carín León just edges out "Qlona" this week. • Despite all being too low to appear at all on the main chart, there is a change in hands of the Brazilian crown on the Excl. US chart. This song's been a hit in Brazil for some time, and I was hoping it would stay beneath others because it makes my spreadsheet look really silly, but here we go... Deep breath. "Let's Go 4" by DJ GBR, MC IG, MC Ryan SP, MC PH, MC Davi, MC Luki, MC Don Juan, MC Kadu, TrapLaudo, MC GP, and MC GH do 7 is now the biggest song from Brazil.

The Christmas freeze is in full effect now, resulting in an almost identical update post from me to the one I posted exactly 52 weeks ago. Obviously, this also means no new peaks and only December 16th-specific movements. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing• I thought Tate McRae's big hit would be enough to keep Michael Bublé from the top this year, and I was half right. On the main chart, "It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas" easily moves into its usual 6th-place spot among global Christmas hits, but "Greedy" still holds strong for the Canadian crown on the Excl. US chart. • José Feliciano's usual "Feliz Navidad" rises above both of the lasting hits from the latest Bad Bunny album, taking Puerto Rico for himself in the process. • Japan gets a bit of a Christmas shift. One day, this might be about "Christmas Song" by Back Number, but for now, it's just Yoko Ono taking her December spot at the top of the nation due to her participation in "Merry Xmas (War Is Over)" with her husband. • 90% of the time, Wales is represented on the chart through Jonny Buckland of Coldplay (It's been "Viva la Vida" recently.) but the other 10% begins now as Shakin' Stevens and his big hit "Merry Christmas Everyone" rises above every evergreen Coldplay song. • For non-Christmas news, Fortnite brings Barbados back to the main chart. Many Eminem hits re-enter because of his Fortnite concert, including "Love the Way You Lie" with Rihanna. • A Milo J collaboration with, of course, Peso Pluma becomes the biggest hit off his new album, charting on the Excl. US chart just above Emilia and Tini, making him the biggest Argentinian there. • Perhaps the biggest, or at least most interesting, news this week comes from India. If it were not for Christmas, they would have smashed their all-time peak on both charts due to "Arjan Vailly" by Bhupinder Babbal, off the most successful Bollywood soundtrack in recent memory, debuting.

People in the future will think this week is Christmas week because it's dated December 23rd. I know anytime I talk to someone about the charts, the tracking week discrepancy always confuses them. Anyway, there's also only December 23rd specific information due to the F R E E Z E. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing• The two big albums this week affect my spreadsheet. Nicki Minaj, as usual, brings her homeland of Trinidad and Tobago back onto the global charts. This time, it's "Needle" with Drake that takes the Trinidadian crown. • The other album is Tate McRae's, and it gives "Greedy" just enough strength to fully retake Canada from the clutches of Christmas. We'll see if that lasts for the upcoming big week. • Brazil also makes a return to the main chart after a long absence, and it's through a very familiar method: Anitta singing in Spanish. "Bellakeo" by her and Peso Pluma would have debuted high on both charts this week without Christmas.

Time for the Christmas vacation from doing much on this spreadsheet. Only a few December 30th specific movements here. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing• Without the album boost propping "Greedy" up anymore, Michael Bublé easily retakes Canada from Tate McRae on both charts. • Speaking of albums, Nicki Minaj's latest project falls entirely off the Excl. US chart, but there's a swap on the main chart. Nicki Minaj replaces herself for Trinidad and Tobago's leader due to "Needle" falling hard and "FTCU" staying stable. • Chile pushes through the holida glut and makes a surprising comeback onto the main chart. "Ando" by Jere Klein, which has been treading water on the Excl. US chart for a while now, finally busts onto the main chart, putting Chile back on it for the first time since the summer.

We've finally reached peak Christmas week! A time when Christmas is so strong that it actually loops around to giving us an interesting update week. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- The big surprise this week is that we have a new nation to discuss! Iceland's 2021 Eurovision entry, "10 Years" by Daði og Gagnamagnið, already charted on the Excl. US chart, but for the first time ever, an Icelandic singer is strong enough to reach the main chart. The Spotify-exclusive cover of "Winter Wonderland" by 2023's big indie darling Laufey punches in at #147 this week, putting Iceland in the rankings. This is almost enough for a new peak on the Excl. US chart, too, but Daði Freyr still holds for now. - And now onto the January 6th specifics. Happy New Year! • Among the Christmas glut, "Bellakeo" is actually able to grow, meaning Peso Pluma replaces himself on "Qlona" for Mexican leader. • Christmas hits hard enough for Coldplay's C-list holiday hit "Christmas Lights" to rise way above the immortal "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi. Scottish member Guy Berryman of Coldplay means the band now has the Scotland crown on both charts this week. • On the Excl. US chart, another Christmas boost allows "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" with Yoko Ono to beat out Le Sserafim and its Japanese members to wear the definitive Japan crown this week. • Also on the Excl. US chart, the small Dutch holding of Aruba in the Caribbean Sea makes its yearly return due to Aruban Bobby Farrell of Boney M., whose holiday double hit "Mary's Boy Child / Oh My Lord" returns this week. • Ireland makes a departure from both charts this week due to Christmas being too much for "Take Me to Church" by Hozier. That song's held strong ever since the debut of the chart, so this is the first Irish-less frame in a while. • There's a self-replacement for India, but not by an artist. "Pehle Bhi Main" leapfrogs "Arjan Vailly" off the same soundtrack.

Okay NOW it's the new year for the charts. Big news day for movements on my spreadsheet, so I decided to make it even bigger by rectifying a few 2023 mistakes. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Phonk artist Interworld is a true enigma. Every week that "Metamorphosis" charted, I looked up their name to see if I could figure out anything about them, and I got a lot of conflicting information regarding their origin. I didn't feel right updating my sheet for Germany or Argentina or whatever off such flimsy info. Now that some time has passed and "Metamorphosis" is a proven hit, some more details are out there, and there are reliable (read: literally just more than one) sources saying he's Russian. This definitely affects my spreadsheet, as Russia's previous peak on the main chart, #132 for "Belly Dancer" by Russian DJ BYOR (and our old Kazakh friend Imanbek), is handily beaten out by the #101 peak "Metamorphosis" reached last fall. However, this doesn't hold on the Excl. US chart, where "Belly Dancer" and its #66 peak still holds out over "Metamorphosis" and its #83 peak. - There is also the case of Cameroonian-American singer Libianca, whose "People" became a fan-favorite afrobeats song last year. As it turns out, she's Cameroonian AND American. When the song was first blowing up and there was little information on her, I gathered that she was born to a Cameroonian family and raised in the United States, so I only counted her for the USA. As it turns out, she was raised between the two countries throughout her entire childhood. Precedent says I should count her for Cameroon on my records here, too. That means Cameroon debuted on the main chart several months ago, where it now has a peak of #20, the third highest for any African country. On the Excl. US chart, Cameroon already charted at #110 because of a Robin Schulz remix of Cameroonian singer Wes's 90s hit "Alane," but that's beat hard by "People" reaching as high as #15 last year. - In current news, Jack Harlow nabs the USA another chart topper. - Now for the many, many January 13th specific headlines, triggered by the loss of almost all the Christmas songs. • As stated above, Jack Harlow replaces Mariah Carey to become the American leader of the world, and it finally puts "Lovin on You" at the top of the charts. However, on the Excl. US chart, it's actually newcomer Xavi, making Mexican music but raised in Arizona, and one of his many sudden smash hits "La Diabla" that becomes the biggest song from the states. • In fact, let's get the rest of the Christmas replacements out of the way right now. Tate McRae takes Canada back from Michael Bublé. Kenya Grace takes the United Kingdom back from Wham! (though it's actually "Prada" by Cassö, Raye, and D-Block Europe leading the UK for the first time on the Excl. US chart). Sakura and Kazuha of Le Sserafim take Japan back from Yoko Ono. Somehow, dinosaur "Cold Heart" comes back quite strong, so Pnau takes Australia back from Sia (though it's Hanni of NewJeans on "Ditto" on the Excl. US chart). Bad Bunny takes Puerto Rico back from José Feliciano. Lewis Capaldi takes Scotland back from Coldplay. Coldplay take Wales back from Shakin' Stevens. • Not done with holidays yet! New Year's parties have affected the charts, as well. "I'm Good (Blue)" rises over "Starboy" probably aided by year-end wrapups, so David Guetta leads France instead of Daft Punk again. The Philippines and Sweden also make some surprise returns to the chart through Filipino member of the Black Eyed Peas on "I Gotta Feeling" returning and Swedish cultural juggernauts ABBA on "Dancing Queen" debuting, respectively.

This week on the Global 200, the first national debut of 2024! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Argentina's close neighbor across the river, Uruguay, makes its first appearance on the Global 200 this week. Relatively new Uruguyan artist Mesita has taken on the power of Argentine superstars Nicki Nicole, Tiago PZK, and Emilia to remix his latest single "Una Foto" and rocket it onto the charts. All things considered, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. This means Uruguay starts off with a modest #168 peak on the main chart and a more impressive #74 peak on the Excl. US chart. - Now for the other January 20th specifics. • The endless rotation of two Jungkook songs for South Korean leader is finally interrupted. Surprise viral hit "One of the Girls" hit the top ten this week and features Jennie of Blackpink, so she now wears the crown for Korea on the main chart. (It's still Jungkook on the Excl. US chart.) • Speaking of rotations, the Colombian leader once again swaps between Karol G and Feid. Karol G's "Qlona" begins its natural fall-off just as Feid's "Luna" makes a huge jump on both charts. • India gets a rare non-Bollywood leader, as "Husn" by indie artist Anuv Jain becomes the biggest song from that country. • The New Year's year-in-review and party playlists no longer have an effect on the charts. Daft Punk retake France from David Guetta and his 2023 smash hit. ABBA also fall off the charts entirely, now replaced by Avicii on the main chart and Loreen on the Excl. US chart for Sweden.

Another one of those randomly news-packed weeks for the Global 200. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- As expected, Uruguay posts a big rise due to the first full tracking week of the "Una Foto" remix. Mesita's big hit brings the Uruguayan peak from #168 to #85 on the main chart and from #74 to #42 on the Excl. US chart. - The USA notches yet another chart-topper this week with the debut of Ariana Grande's "Yes, And?" at the top of both charts. This, of course, means she takes the states from Jack Harlow on the main chart and Xavi on the Excl. US chart. - And how about the January 27th specific news? • It's only on the main chart where it debuts high enough, but the Kali Uchis and Peso Pluma collab which has been doing numbers this week smashes into the top ten and takes TWO crowns. Kali Uchis nabs Colombia over Feid, the first time she's held the spot since the reign of "Telepatía" almost three years ago. Meanwhile, Peso Pluma replaces himself for Mexico due to "Igual Que un Ángel" beating out "Bellakeo" this week. • We aren't done with Spanish-language collabs knocking out the old rulers of two countries yet! This time, it actually does affect both charts. The 58th episode of Bizarrap's very consistent hitmaking series, which features Puerto Rican rapper Young Miko, also makes it into the top twenty of both charts. This means Bizarrap beats out Nicki Nicole, Tiago PZK, and Emilia on the earlier-mentioned "Una Foto" remix to take hold of Argentina once more. Further north, Young Miko interrupts the long-lasting hold which Bad Bunny has had over Puerto Rico. • Let's finish off with two dinosaurs. The sudden meteoric rise of "Murder on the Dancefloor" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor has become strong enough to rule the UK, taking the crown from Kenya Grace (from Dua Lipa on the Excl. US chart) this week. Meanwhile, "Riptide" by Vance Joy just kinda survives long enough to rule Australia on both charts.

It's already February according to Billboard... What a month, eh? We get a small update on this week's global charts, but at least there's a new peak. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Uruguay is surging. For the second week in a row, it vaults dozens of spots upwards due to the huge success of Uruguayan artist Mesita's "Una Foto" remix. It's worth noting that this is all worldwide success, with no American numbers. It's not even charting on Hot Latin songs, and the bottom of that chart is very weak. This explains the discrepancy in numbers between the two global charts. On the main chart, "Una Foto" moves the all-time Uruguayan peak from a modest #85 to a notable #46. Meanwhile, on the Excl. US chart, it was at a notable #42 last week and reaches a great #22 this week. - And now the assorted February 3rd specifics. • Japan is back in entirely Japanese hands. For a couple months now, the nation has been held by K-pop group Le Sserafim's song "Perfect Night" due to two Japanese bandmates, Kazuha and Sakura. However, this week sees the biggest gainer award go to the rare Japanese hip-hop hit "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born" by Creepy Nuts, letting them take the Japanese crown on both charts. • Another longstanding but strange ruler is "Take On Me" by A-ha for Norway. That reign was interrupted by fellow dinosaurs Aqua last year, but there's finally a current Norwegian hit rising to the top. "Whatever" by Norwegian DJ Kygo debuts high enough to beat A-ha on both charts. • Constituent country Wales of the United Kingdom belongs to Jonny Buckland of Coldplay on the global charts, like it has since forever, but the song has shifted this week. After holding the spot for nearly a year, "Viva la Vida" has been beat out for Wales by older hit "Yellow." • Turkey returns to the Excl. US chart! Been a while. This time, it's "Doğuştan Beri Haklıyım (TMM)" by newcomer to the charts Lvbel C5 debuting in the bottom half.

After a few decently exciting frames, we suddenly have a nearly empty week for Global 200 news. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- The big thing is, of course, the new #1. It's not rare to see the United States top the chart, but this time, they pull off a more interesting maneuver: "Hiss" by Megan Thee Stallion directly replaces "Yes, And?" by Ariana Grande at the #1 spot instead of letting another country get a week in. In fact, this is the most American-dominated top ten in a long time, especially for a week with no album bomb. Nine of the top ten are American, and the one that isn't is Canadian. - Now the couple of February 10th specifics. • Related directly to the new #1, Trinidad and Tobago goes through the same song and dance of Nicki Minaj replacing herself for its leader. This time, it's "FTCU" making way for "Big Foot" though only on the main chart. • (G)I-dle's return through their second album heralds the return of a couple countries to the global charts. Namely, Thailand and Taiwan are charting again due to members Minnie and Shuhua, respectively. Similarly, Yuqi replaces Ningning of Aespa to lead China, with "Wife" debuting above "Drama" on this week's charts.

The Americans (and Canadians) are kinda dominating the global charts right now, resulting in some not terribly interesting weeks of news from me. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- As usual, I've got to cover the new #1, though it's just a repeat of last week. American Benson Boone replaces American Megan Thee Stallion at the very top with "Beautiful Things" only growing. Not hard to believe, considering "Hiss" breaks the record for biggest non-Christmas drop from #1. (Look, I like the song, too, but we can't be surprised about that.) - Now for a decently sized list of Feb. 17 specifics. Happy Valentine's Day! • Peso Pluma takes a major tumble this week for some reason, with both of his current big hits falling ten spots or so. Because of this, collaborator Kali Uchis on "Igual Que un Ángel" loses Colombia out to "Luna" from Feid. • Another consequence of this is Mexico not being represented in the top twenty of the main chart for the first time in what must be nearly a year. However, this is just a technicality. Xavi has two corridos tumbados songs in the top twenty right now, he just happens to be from the Arizona side of the border. • A whole bunch of countries make some small returns on the Excl. US chart after some long absences. To start off with, we have "Buscando Money" by Italian DJs Twenty Six and Cuban vocalist Tayson Kryss, the first sign of either country since Eurovision. • Also only on the Excl. US chart, there is "Thank You (Not So Bad)" by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Tiësto, Dido and W&W to consider. Tiësto is, of course, a familiar Dutch face here, and W&W also hail from the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike bring Belgium back to the chart. • "Murder on the Dancefloor" stumbles a bit while "Houdini" holds hard, so Dua Lipa now rules the United Kingdom on both charts. • "I Got You" by Twice debuts high, so member Tzuyu now beats out Shuhua of (G)I-dle for Taiwan.

In a rare but fitting twist, the big album bomb this week does not make a big enough splash to stop news relevant to my spreadsheet. That's especially notable for this album bomb which actually made it onto the Excl. US chart. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- I'd be remiss to not mention the new chart topper, as "Beautiful Things" by Benson Boone has now reached #1 on both global charts. This is a symptom of current American dominance over global hits. Americans make up the entire top ten of the main chart this week, other than one Canadian. - Now for the nicely sized list of February 24th specifics. • It's Sanremo time again! As usual, the Italians show off the most team spirit when it comes to their Eurovision contenders. Several songs from this year's Sanremo Music Festival make it to the global charts. The highest among these, and the highest Italian song of the week, is "Tuta gold" by two-time former Italian Eurovision representative Mahmood. However, that song only got sixth place at Sanremo. Underneath that, you can find "I p' me, tu p' te" by Geolier, then "Sinceramente" by Annalisa... and finally the winner and this year's Eurovision entry "La noia" by Angelina Mango. Turns out votes don't translate to streams when it comes to Sanremo. • The 58th Bzrp Music Session takes a tumble in streams, meaning Tiago PZK, Nicki Nicole, and Emilia on the "Una Foto" remix get to claim Argentina from Bizarrap. • Next door, Chile swaps hands. "Gata Only" by Chilean MCs FloyyMenor and our old friend Cris MJ debuts above longtime crown-wearer "Ando" by Jere Klein. • The latest Twice single crashes so hard that it does not even last a second week on the main chart. This lets Shuhua of (G)I-dle easily retake Taiwan from Tzuyu of Twice. • Only on the main chart, the Noah Kahan rererelease is big enough for the "Northern Attitude" remix with Hozier to return as the highest song from Ireland this week.

Short news week, so I'll announce that I'm going to attempt to start a sister sheet to this one that has a timeline of every highest song per country per week. Hopefully that'll look presentable soon. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- On the main chart, Beyoncé takes the United States from Benson Boone and hits #1, giving the Americans yet another consecutive chart-topper. That's five in a row now. - After that, we just have some March 2nd specific headlines. • Dua Lipa replaces herself for leading the British on the global charts. New debut "Training Season" takes over previous single "Houdini" to be the highest song from the United Kingdom on both charts. • Another self-replacement this week involves the Netherlands. Common Dutch crown-wearer Tiësto brings his homeland back onto the main chart through the high debut of his new collab with Karol G. He also becomes the Dutch leader on the Excl. US chart, but there, he replaces himself (and W&W) for the title even though "Thank You (Not So Bad)" posted good gains. • The run of Kali Uchis's "Igual que un Ángel" may have been more of a flash in the pan than expected, as the title of highest Mexican song, though still in the hands of Peso Pluma, now falls back to "Bellakeo" with Anitta. • The worldwide reggae smash "Praise Jah in the Moonlight" has been a big point of discussion lately, but YG Marley is American through and through. This week, bolstered by a biopic, his grandfather Bob Marley debuts on the main chart, brining Jamaica back properly for the first time since Beam's appearance on the Across the Spider-Verse soundtrack eight months ago.

This week on global chart updates, I'm not done with that timeline I mentioned last week, but hopefully I'll have something presentable next time. For now, there are no new peaks, but there are a good amount of March 9h specifics. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing• As I'm sure everyone noticed, Benson Boone rules the United States again, taking the crown right back from Beyoncé. • Jennie on "One of the Girls" has owned the Korean crown for a long time now, much longer than I'm sure any of us expected, but this week she is finally dethroned by the first full tracking week of out-the-gate smash "Easy" by the mostly Korean Le Sserafim. That "mostly Korean" is important here because the same big debut allows Japanese members Kazuha and Sakura to move Creepy Nuts out of the way and lead Japan on both charts. • Twice also released an album this week, and it's enough for Tzuyu of Twice to place above Shuhua of (G)I-dle for Taiwan. Those two have been trading Taiwan very regularly these past few weeks. • Following in the steps of "Murder on the Dancefloor" before it, though only on the Excl. US chart this time, Natasha Bedingfield and her revived hit "Unwritten" leapfrog the Dua Lipa and "Training Season" to become the biggest from the United Kingdom. • The "title track" of Bollywood film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya by Indian-Canadian Raghav and Indians Tanishk Bagchi and Asees Kaur take the top Inidan song title from a Mitraz song off the very same soundtrack. This is all only on the Excl. US chart, though, as India is absent from the main chart.

Before I show off my cool new spreadsheet, we've got a busy week of Global 200 news to discuss. There are a pair of new peaks, one for each chart. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- On the main Global 200, Chile has a new champion. The remix of "Ultra Solo" by Chilean singers Polimá Westcoast and Pailita, featuring a bunch of non-Chileans, has been the lengthy country's peak for over a year now, but the artist who first put Chile on the chart is back to reclaim his title. The old #24 peak of "Ultra Solo" is now barely beaten by FloyyMenor and old champ Cris MJ's "Gata Only" at #21, which has been posting major gains for weeks. On the Excl. US chart, they are short only one spot of the old #9 peak for Polimá Westcoast and Pailita. - On the Excl. US chart, we have a rare case of a country debuting first on the main chart. French Montana, a rapper raised in Morocco but based heavily in the USA, has made multiple appearances on the main chart, but a bit of TikTok virality allows his biggest hit "Unforgettable" to finally debut on the Excl. US chart, the first time a Moroccan has ever appeared there. - Now for some March 16th specifics. • Creepy Nuts take Japan back from the Japanese members of Le Sserafim now that the big debut numbers have worn off. • We have some big returns to status quos. For Wales, "Viva la Vida" charts above "Yellow" this week, like it did for most of 2023. A-ha also take Norway back from Kygo with their big, enduring hit, though that's only on the Excl. US chart. • Germany barely makes a return to the main Global 200, as Bennett's techno remix of "Vois sur ton chemin" slips back into the bottom ten. Also, check this out. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WcSNvhKm5lsG6uvPBR6z9Kpg3QbYwmW97etSf5Z_04I/edit?usp=sharingIt's still in the early stages, but I am working on a complete timeline of each country's top song on the global charts, giving an easy visualization of how long each song has held on AND (more importantly imo) a historical record of every artist who once held the biggest song from their homeland on the Billboard global charts. I only have the latest couple months complete, but it should be enough for you to see what it's supposed to look like overall. I'm updating it slowly but surely, which is important because it lets me catch mistakes. There's a whole country that was missing from my spreadsheet before now. Folk band Aur charted low on the Excl. US chart last October, but the limited information online made me assume they were Indian. When their song "Tu Hai Kahan" got a small boost in numbers based on a Zayn remix, more information came out, which I missed, that confirmed they are a very Pakistani band. Pakistan has now been retroactively added to my records with a peak of #159. Relieving, though I hope there aren't too many more mistakes for me to catch.

This week on the Global 200, a big album bomb somehow doesn't prevent new peaks. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Morocco is coming! This week, "Unforgettable" by French Montana (based in the USA but born and raised in Morocco) continues showing off its presumably TikTok-based streaming gains. On both global charts, the song lets Morocco hit new all-time peaks. On the main chart, it rises from #168 to #137, while on the Excl. US chart, where the country only debuted earlier this month, the peak changes from #152 to #133. Still some modest peaks, but that can quickly change. - I'd also be remiss to not mention the new #1. Of course, it's just another chapter in this era of American dominance on the global charts, though, as Ariana Grande gives the United States its sixth chart-topper in a row (only third in a row on the Excl. US chart, but still) with the highest debut of her album bomb. - Now for some neat Mar. 23 specifics. • Peso Pluma loses out on Mexico. While this is only a technical rarity since many Mexican-Americans have charted above him lately, it's still notable. The debut of "Madonna" by Natanael Cano and Oscar Maydon, both purely Mexican, above Peso Pluma's "Bellakeo" secures this. • (G)I-dle, as usual, causes a lot of movement with their diverse lineup. A deep cut from their latest album "Fate" has gone viral, meaning they cause three new country leaders this week: Thailand from their own other track "Super Lady," China from Aespa's "Drama," and Taiwan from Twice's "One Spark" (Excl. US only). All now belong to Minnie, Yuqi, and Shuhua of (G)I-dle, respectively. • Australia FINALLY has a current hit! It's from a surprising source, too, as Vance Joy's "Riptide" is finally outcharted by relative unknown Australian DJ Cyril and his remix of "Stumblin' In," a soft rock hit from the seventies. This is only on the Excl. US chart, though.

I love weeks like this which come with random perfect storm of exciting news for the Global 200. It feels like it's been a year since I got to talk about FOUR new peaks in one update. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- The coolest news of all is the whole new country charting this week. After being a small club hit for a few months now, "Mwaki" by Brazilian DJ Zerb and Kenyan singer Sofiya Nzau has nabbed some European streams and finally debuts at #181 on the Excl. US chart. Nzau even sings in her local Kikuyu language on the track. This is the first appearance Kenya has ever made on the global charts! Kenya is the tenth African country to chart, quite few for the continent with the greatest number of countries. (Yes, Asia is a larger landmass, but it's split up less evenly.) - Turkey was the expected biggest news of the week. "Lan" by Zeynep Bastık, who has been the Turkish leader on this spreadsheet before, posted some record-shattering Spotify numbers last week. "Bilmem Mi?" by Sefo (a song with an unexpected reggaeton bent) has held the Turkish record for two and a half years now, peaking at #82 on the main chart and #41 on the Excl. US chart in the summer of 2021. "Lan" debuts high enough to make that look quaint, rocketing in at #25 on the main chart and a truly impressive #10 on the Excl. US chart. Turkish songs tend to get actual runs, just usually too short for a Year-End list spot because they chart too low. "Antidepresan" spent a whole ten weeks on the chart last year if memory serves right. With this, we might see the first Turkish YE entry. - "Gata Only" continues with its unprecedented momentum, even debuting on the Hot 100 this week. Because of that, Chile enters the top twenty of the main chart for the first time, with FloyyMenor and Cris MJ climbing from #21 to #13. - In the same vein, the minor TikTok presence of French Montana's "Unforgettable" means Morocco moves from #133 to a small new peak of #124 this week on the Excl. US chart. - Now we can finally take a look at the March 30th specifics. • As we should expect from BTS solo work by now, V claims the South Korean crown this week with the high debut of "Fri(end)s" on both charts, dethroning Jennie on that Weeknd song. It probably returns to her next week, knowing how these non-Jungkook solo tracks often do. • Myke Towers took over Puerto Rico from Bad Bunny... last week. Whoops. I missed it, but "La Falda" is definitely charting higher than "Perro Negro" this week and last week. (Even more than last week on the Excl. US chart. idk how I missed it.) • The latest EDM samplemania hit finally debuts on the main chart. "Thank You (Not So Bad)" has work from Belgian DJs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Dutch DJs Tiësto and W&W, meaning Tiësto replaces himself on "Contigo" as leader of the Netherlands. I finally completed up to the beginning of 2024 on that timeline from two weeks ago, too, if you want to see what a finalized clean page of this is supposed to look like. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WcSNvhKm5lsG6uvPBR6z9Kpg3QbYwmW97etSf5Z_04I/edit?usp=sharing

This week on the Global 200: craic. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Ireland is this week's big winner. For over three years now, despite having the English language boost, Ireland's highest peak on the chart has been the EDM hit "Paradise" with Irish singer Dermot Kennedy at #30. (Unless you count "Do They Know It's Christmas?" which was organized by an Irishman and features several others, which hits the top twenty on both charts every year.) Hozier's evergreen hit "Take Me to Church" has straddled the bottom of the chart ever since, but that finally changes. With a decade of hype behind him, Hozier's "Too Sweet" debuts at #7, easily smashing the all-time Ireland peak. However, on the Excl. US chart, "Too Sweet" debuts too low to match "Paradise" and its #22 peak. - We also see some continued momentum for last week's debut. "Mwaki" with Kenyan singer Sofiya Nzau moves up from its #181 debut on the Excl. US last week, bringing Kenya's peak to #166. - Also only on the Excl. US chart, we see our first tie in some time. "Gata Only" becomes the second Chilean song to peak at #9, matching the "Ultra Solo" remix from 2022. - There is, of course, the new #1 to mention, with the United States continuing its streak by the debut of "Like That" by triple Americans Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar debuting all the way up there. - Now for the short list of April 6th specifics. • Sudden British TikTok sensation Artemas debuts super high on both charts, taking the United Kingdom from Dua Lipa's months-long reign. • V loses South Korea, as expected, with the first-week numbers just not lasting. Jennie on "One of the Girls" becomes the highest Korean on the chart again. • David Guetta dipped low enough in January to lose France to Daft Punk on elder hit "Starboy" with the Weeknd, but "Starboy" has begun losing, allowing "I'm Good (Blue)" to again become the highest song from France on the charts.

This week on the Global 200, K-pop shakes up some Asian countries, as usual, and a few Latin countries make long-awaited return to the charts. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Let's start with Ireland. On the main chart, the strong stability of Hozier's "Too Sweet" allows it to pick up a spot, bringing the all-time Irish peak from #7 to #6 there. Meanwhile, the Excl. US chart does a lot of catching up in one week. "Too Sweet" is now as big worldwide as it is in the USA, meaning Hozier repeats what he did last week on the main chart: he finally beats out fellow Irish singer Dermot Kennedy (on "Paradise" by Meduza) and launches the Excl. US Irish peak from #22 to #13. - Kenya also posts a modest new peak due to great stability in the face of an album bomb, though this is only on the Excl. US chart. "Mwaki" with Kenyan Sofiya Nzau moves from #166 to #164. - Now for those April 13th specifics. • "Magnetic" by Illit is attracted to the upper ranks of the global charts this week. In one fell swoop, Koreans Minju, Wonhee, and Yunah of Illit take the crown from Jennie for South Korea, and the Japanese members Iroha and Moka replace Creepy Nuts for Japan. • Not done with K-pop's shenanigans yet, as Thai members Chiquita and Pharita of BabyMonster fly over Minnie of (G)I-dle for Thailand, with "Sheesh" debuting quite high on both charts. • With the debut of the contentious new Camila Cabello single, Cuba would make its first showing on the chart in a year... if not for the short appearance of one Tayson Kryss on Excl. US a month ago. • One more interesting Latin return is Panama. Panamanians Dímelo Flow and Sech put together a giant collab album, with the top song from it debuting on both charts and truly bringing Panama back for the first time in ages. • Dinosaurs defeated left and right! "Stumblin' In" by Cyril finally outcharts "Riptide" by Vance Joy on the main chart, making Australia current again.

Let's go, midnight Global 200 update! Once again, FOUR new peaks to talk about, even if they are mostly just continued momentum. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Ireland keeps making big moves. "Too Sweet" by Hozier posts some more strong gains, moving the all-time Irish peak from #6 to #2 on the main chart. The move is repeated a little lower on the Excl. US chart, where "Too Sweet" moves #13 to #7, the first time Ireland appears in the top ten of that chart. - Chile is having an even more unexpected moment in the sun, considering the country only debuted on the global charts in the past two years. Chile enters the top ten of the main chart for the first time ever as "Gata Only" by FloyyMenor and Cris MJ moves from #13 up to #10. It also tops the Hot Latin Songs chart this week. Meanwhile, "Gata Only" breaks the tie with the "Ultra Solo" remix on the Excl. US chart, rising up to #6 from #9 and becoming the definitive biggest Chilean hit in the chart's history. - "Unforgettable" by Moroccan French Montana keeps up with some minor viral gains on the Excl. US chart, bringing Morocco's peak there up to #113 from #124. - The same can be said for Kenya, as "Mwaki" with Sofiya Nzau grows slowly but steadily, allowing Kenya to move up to #137 from #164 (also only on the Excl. US chart). - Now how about those April 20th specific headlines? • With the strong debut of the 59th Bzrp Music Session, Bizarrap returns to his regularly scheduled spot on Argentina's throne, replacing Nicki Nicole, Tiago PZK, and Emilia on the "Una Foto" remix. This time, he brings along with him Mexican Natanael Cano, who replaces himself on "Madonna" as the biggest from Mexico in the world this week, • Once upon a time, rapper Bas held the all-time French peak on the Global 200 due to appearing on a J. Cole album bomb. He takes the weekly crown of France this week for the same reason, though he's now far from the peak.

On this week's Global 200 update, I get to disseminate some news I haven't gotten to in a year: A new country has topped the charts. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- For the first time since the Mexican boom of last spring, a new country has hit #1 for its first time. In this case, it's Ireland. "Too Sweet" by Irish two-hit wonder Hozier has made up the streaming margins, slipping from #2 to the top of the main chart this week. On the Excl. US chart, Ireland shows a bit more modesty by moving #7 to #5, but it's still its first frame in the top five there. This makes it just the fourth European nation to reach #1, and this week is, to the best of my knowledge, the first where an Irish song beats every British song in the world. Ireland is now also the least populated sovereign state to top the Global 200. (New Zealand beats it by only about 60,000 kiwis.) - Speaking of the British competition, that's the other chart topper this week. "I Like the Way You Kiss Me" by Artemas has brought the United Kingdom to the top of the Excl. US chart. For such an influential country in global music, this ends a very long drought of chart-toppers. The last Brit to hold that #1 spot was Sam Smith on "Unholy" a year and a half ago. - Chile just won't slow down. Continuing what I've said every week for the past month, "Gata Only" by FloyyMenor and Cris MJ sets a new Chilean peak, entering the top five of both charts for the first time ever by moving from #10 to #4 on the main chart and #6 to #4 on the Excl. US chart. - Kenya, on the other hand, just won't speed up. Still, they say slow and steady wins the race. "Mwaki" with Sofiya Nzau moves the Kenyan peak on the Excl. US chart from #137 to #123. - Now we can finally move on to some April 27th specific news. • Germany returns to the main chart (replaces Bennett on the Excl. US chart) through two German DJs, Jaxomy and Agitano Romero, debuting quite high with a remix of an Italian song from 1980, "Pedro" by Raffaella Carrà. Since she is credited, Raffaella Carrà also brings Italy back onto the charts this week. • Europe's really colonizing the news this week, as the next headline is about France. David Guetta's new song with One Republic, "I Don't Wanna Wait" (also reusing elements of an old Euro hit), debuts high enough to beat himself for biggest French song in the world on both charts. • Rather unknown Australian DJ Cyril has got to be one of the most unlikely self-replacements in the chart's history. On the main chart, he leapfrogs himself to claim the biggest song from Australia, as his remix of Disturbed's viral 2015 cover of "The Sound of Silence" charts above his earlier remix of 1979 hit song "Stumblin' In" this week. On the Excl. US chart, "Stumblin' In" just barely holds above "The Sound of Silence" in this frame. • On the Excl. US chart, current South African peak holder Tyla debuts a second song, "Jump" with Jamaican MC Skillibeng, putting Jamaica back on the chart with a proper current hit for the first time in a while.

We have so much random news relevant to my spreadsheet this week that I genuinely planned to post this yesterday, as usual, but compiling it all took so long and I didn't wanna do it in the middle of the night. And during a Taylor Swift album bomb, of all times! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Starting, as customary, with the most exciting news: a whole new nation has entered the global charts this week, and it's a big one! "Ride or Die, Pt. 2" by Persian-Dutch singer Sevdaliza debuts, putting Iran on the Global 200 for the first time ever. The Iranian peak starts off at #123 on the main chart and #73 on the Excl. US chart, and it would certainly be much higher if it weren't Tortured Poets week. Raised between the Netherlands and Iran, Sevdaliza also takes the top Dutch spot this week from producers Tiësto and W&W on that Dido remix. Not just that, but as the "Pt. 2" in the title implies, this is a remix of a song with Puerto Rican rapper Villano Antillano, who we know, which now includes Dominican singer Tokischa, so the Dominican Republic is back on the chart since the last time Tokischa charted (on a different "Pt. 2" song). - Another song by another trio also gives us a deluge of shakeups for the spreadsheet. Rvssian and Rauw Alejandro have another collaboration debut high on the charts, but this time they bring Ayra Starr with them instead of Chris Brown. "Santa" gives Benin a new all-time peak due to Ayra Starr's presence. She was already the record-holding, having gotten "Rush" up to #115 on the main chart and #87 on the Excl. US chart. "Santa" debuts at #61 on the main chart and #36 on the Excl. US chart, blowing that old Beninese peak out of the water. This also causes Rauw Alejandro to leapfrog Myke Towers on "La Falda" and bring Puerto Rico back to a high chart position. - Somehow, we aren't done with "Santa" yet, as Rvssian gets to join in on the fun. His aforementioned "Nostálgico" previously held the Jamaican peak on the Excl. US chart. Now, Jamaica's peak on that chart moves up from #55 to, as stated above, #36. On the main chart, the Jamaican peak is still Beam featuring on a Beyoncé song. - Although Chile's new peak though the continued momentum of "Gata Only" is very small, moving up to #3 from #4, and only on the Excl. US chart, it feels like a statement when it does that at all through the Tortured Poets album bomb. - And with all of that, the thing people will remember this week for is the new #1, where Taylor Swift and Post Malone replace Benson Boone to claim another #1 for the United States. Looks like the break in the American monopoly over chart-toppers in 2024 could only last for one week. - May the 4th specifics be with you. • The other effect of the Taylor Swift album bomb involves the UK. As usual, album bombs affect the Excl. US chart less, so Artemas still sits on the British throne there, but the funnily-named "Florida!!!" featuring English band Florence + the Machine debuts as the highest song from the United Kingdom on the main chart. • Canada makes a major breakthrough this week. For the first (non-Christmas) week in eight months, Tate McRae's "Greedy" is not the biggest Canadian song in the world. Drake's official entry into the diss war taking the world by storm "Push Ups" debuts well above McRae. That week eight months ago, by the way? Also Drake. • Cyril flip-flops just like he did last week, meaning "Stumblin' In" is once again the biggest Australian song on the charts. • The last three headlines only effect the Excl. US chart. You'd think this is because of the Swift bomb, but all thirty-one of those songs debuted here, too. First of all, the Argentines are back with their usual posse cuts. A remix of a song named "Bésame" by Bhavi, Seven Kayne, and Milo J featuring Tiago PZK, Khea, and Neo Pistea takes Argentina from the clutches of Bizarrap. We'll see how long it takes before a song leading Argentina is neither by Bizarrap nor a posse cut. • For the first time this year, Brazil is represented by a different song. The collapsing "Bellakeo" with Anitta is outdebuted by "Gosta de Rua" by Felipe e Rodrigo on the Excl. US chart. • Speaking of collapses, it looks like those record-breaking first week streams for Zeynep Bastık just couldn't hold, as "Lan" is gone from the main chart and already surpassed by the debut of "Renklensin" by Turkish YouTuber Reynmen to be the biggest song from Turkey.

This week on the Global 200, CoComelon debuts at #184 with "Wheels on the Bus" on the Excl. US chart. That doesn't really affect my spreadsheet, but I figured it had to be a headline somewhere. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- The tri-continental hit "Santa" which I talked about at length last week posts great gains as it swiftly rises through the falling Tortured Poets Department album bomb. This means featured artist Ayra Starr, representing both Benin and Nigeria, boosts the Beninese peak from #61 to #29 on this week's main chart and from #36 to #14 on the Excl. US chart. - On the very same song, producer Rvssian also lifts the Jamaican peak in the same way on the Excl. US chart: #36 to #14. If it makes similar growth next week, the Jamaican peak on the main chart held by Beam will be conquered. - And now the May 11th specific news. • One last thing about "Santa" involves Puerto Rico. Although Rauw Alejandro still holds on the Excl. US chart, "Adivino" by Myke Towers and Bad Bunny easily nabs the Puerto Rican crown this week on the main chart. • Spain finally has some news. After being ruled by Iñigo Quintero for over half a year, another Spaniard enters the charts. Spanish rapper Rels B's new album makes soem impact, with the highest track being a Junior H collab. • With (G)I-dle's viral moment with "Fate" waning, Chinese members Jun and The8 of Seventeen, who debut "Maestro" high on the listing, easily become the highest artists from their country to chart this week. • The highest Australian song once again switches hands between the two Cyril hits. I don't often mention these minor switches between two equal level hits, but they are funny when they happen, like the Jungkook songs at the end of last year or all the Dua Lipa songs through the first half of this year.

This week in Global 200 news, I'm late again. Oops. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- We have a rare move of a (mostly) non-English song getting a new peak on only the main chart. "Santa" continues its big climb, and due to Ayra Starr's prseence, Benin's all-time peak shifts from #29 to #24. The song is also just one spot away from reaching the main chart's Jamaican peak due to Rvssian's presence, which would feel more fitting as an all-time peak than the current Beyoncé feature. This also lets Rauw Alejandro on this track jump back over Myke Towers to become the highest charting Puerto Rican this week. - Another recently debuted song continues its climb to true hit status. The remix of "Ride or Die" by Sevdaliza means the Iran peak rises from #123 to #112 on the main chart and from #74 to #66 on the Excl. US chart. - The relatively low positions of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake diss tracks on the Excl. US chart do indicate a level of localness to the big beef, but it's still the biggest event of the year in music in a year where Americans have been dominating the tops of the global charts. "Not like Us' by Kendrick Lamar handily notches a new #1 for the United States. Over on the Excl. US chart, fellow American Sabrina Carpenter much more humbly makes up the streaming margins and tops that chart. - I've also got an error fix to report. I've rediscovered that French Montana, representing Morocco on the chart, has peaked at #137 twice on the main chart, once with a Diddy feature and the other time with the recent viral revival of "Unforgettable." This is now reflected accurately on the spreadsheet, which listed the former as the lone Moroccan peak till now. - Now some May 18th specific headlines. • Another part of the rap war is its effect on Canada. Drake replaces himself for the top of Canada as "Family Matters" debuts above "Push Ups," and he even finally takes Canada from Tate McRae on the Excl. US chart with the very same song. Maybe this isn't so local. • I mentioned last week that Cyril's remixes of "The Sound of Silence" and "Stumblin' In" have been trading the Australian crown every week on the main chart, but this one becomes the first frame where "The Sound of Silence" leads Australia on the Excl. US chart. • As Brazil normalizes with the decline of "Bellakeo," it goes back to some very fast crown handoffs. Felipe e Rodrigo lose out to "Digitando" on the Excl. US chart, making Gustavo Moura & Rafael the highest charting Brazilians there. • Turkey does the opposite of normalize, now showing some major activity after being absent on the charts all year. Multiple songs are even consistently charting on the Excl. US chart. This week, "Tiryakinim" by Bayhan, a song not available on US Spotify, debuts as the biggest Turkish song in the world.

We've come to one of the most exciting weeks of every year for Global 200 news. Eurovision impacts this week, and it shakes things up even more than usual considering all the STUFF that went down this time. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- New country alert! Switzerland was last week's big winner, and it reflects in the global charts. "The Code" by Swiss singer Nemo, the 2024 Eurovision champion, debuts at #51 on the main chart and lands Switzerland in the ranking for the first time ever. ESC impact, as you might expect, is always stronger on the Excl. US chart, which means Switzerland has hit that chart before, with "Tout l'univers" by Gjon's Tears debuting at #119 after 2021's contest. Nemo blows that out of the water by debuting "The Code" on that chart all the way up at #21. (As an aside, back in 2021, I erroneously labeled Gjon's Tears as Albanian-Swiss, but that turned out to just be his ethnic background. His nationality is all Swiss, so Albania has officially not debuted on the global charts... yet!) - SECOND new country alert! Just as Switzerland wins Eurovision for the first time in almost forty years (and even then, that was with Celine Dion, who isn't even European) Croatia posts its best placement in its ESC history, coming in second place. This easily gives Croatia the clout to enter the global charts for the first time. "Rim Tim Tagi Dim" by Baby Lasagna debuts at #139 on the main chart and #64 on the Excl. US chart. - Despite all that, it's Americans who top the chart, with the United States notching yet another 2024 chart topper through the efforts of Post Malone and Morgan Wallen. Although Beyoncé and Taylor Swift have simultaneously topped the Hot Country Songs and Global 200 charts before, Morgan Wallen becomes the first primarily country artist to have the biggest song in the world. - Eurovision fills up the May 25th specific headlines, too. • Nemo might have the biggest Eurovision debut on the Excl. US chart, but it's "Europapa" by Dutch rapper Joost who ranks the highest on the main chart, despite (probably aided by) being diqualified from the finals. He takes the Netherlands from Sevdaliza on both charts this week because of the huge streaming numbers and controversy which apparently even got Americans interested. • Ukraine still makes waves at Eurovision, it seems. "Teresa & Maria" by Ukrainian rapper Alyona Alyona and Ukrainian singer Jerry Heil, coming in third place at the contest, brings the nation back to the Excl. US chart for the first time since their victory two Eurovisions ago. • Finally, rounding out ESC-related news, Sweden returns to the Excl. US chart through "Tattoo" by Loreen, last year's winner, which was performed at the show and got a bit spurred in streams. • A couple of K-pop groups do their thing and snatch a country through some lucky members. Bang Chan and Felix of Stray Kids take Australia from Cyril this week due to the band's big collab with Charlie Puth debuting high... • ... and Ningning of Aespa takes China from Jun and The8 of Seventeen with "Supernova" posting great first week numbers. • Out of nowhere, with both Drake and Tate McRae falling, the Weeknd takes the spot of highest Canadian on the Excl. US chart, and it's with the shockingly stable "One of the Girls" simply surviving. • As "Bésame" falls off, Argentina disappears from the Excl. US chart for the first time in 2024.

This week on the Global 200, the most populated country in the world finally proves itself. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Despite the billion citizens, China's insular market means it took until now to hit some major milestones. Aespa's "Supernova" posts huge gains with the release of the band's first album (whatever "first" means for K-pop groups). Because of their Chinese member, Ningning, "Supernova" now claims the title of highest peaking song by a Chinese musician on both global charts! In both cases, "Queencard" by (G)I-dle, who include Chinese singer Yuqi among their ranks, is dethroned. On the main chart, Yuqi's #21 is beaten by Ningning's #19, which makes this China's first week in the top twenty there. On the Excl. US chart, Yuqi's #12 is beaten by Ningning's #7, making this the first week China notches a top ten rank. - The trends of sudden streaming monsters from unknown artists and American dominance on the Global 200 both continue. "Million Dollar Baby" by Tommy Richman claims its first week atop the main chart because of amazing streams, giving another American victory in 2024. - Summertime is upon us. Here are the June 1st specifics. • Aespa's victories this week continue! Ningning's bandmates include Korean-Japanese Giselle and Koreans Karina and Winter, meaning those two fellow East Asian crowns this week are taken from "Magnetic" by Illit and its Korean and Japanese lineup. • On the main chart only, Luis R Conriquez and Neton Vega take Mexico from Natanael Cano and Oscar Maydon with the rise of "Si No Quieres No." • As the beef finally begins to turn into a memory, Drake tracks begin to show some big streaming losses, allowing Tate McRae to easily take Canada back on the main chart. • The Box, MC Brinquedo, MC Tuto, MC Laranjinha, and MC Cebezinho take Brazil from Gustavo Moura & Rafael on the Excl. US chart. From what I can tell, "The Box" is just a YouTube channel that hosts these funk MCs.

A certain recordkeeper was in Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, and we lacked an update on the Global 200 last week. I'm still in France, actually, but I'm in a chiller place with less to do, so I've finally got time to do this six days late. This is LAST WEEK's update! The chart dated June 8th! This week's update will come tomorrow, Wednesday, as usual. Luckily, this one's small. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- China posts a small new all-time peak because of the strength of "Supernova" by Aespa. Ningning's presence on the song pushes China up from #19 to #17 on the main chart and from #7 to #6 on the Excl. US chart. - Now some June 8th headlines. • Korean-Australian NewJeans take South Korea and Australia from Giselle, Karina, and Winter of Aespa and Cyril, respectively (though they only take over Australia on the Excl. US chart), due to the big debut of "How Sweet." Unlucky Lithe would've ruled Australia this week without that. • "MTG Quem Não Quer Sou Eu" by DJ Topo, Seu Jorge, MC Leozin, and MC G15, which I have to assume is a mouthful even in Portuguese, boosts its streams in a big way and puts Brazil back on the main chart. • Their method is suspect, but Russia enters the global charts for the first time this year. Sleeper hit "Snowfall" by Russian DJs Øneheart and Reidenshi got huge, seemingly botted, streaming gains last week, allowing the two-year-old song onto the bottom of the Excl. US chart. • This is technically relevant because the song ruling Wales changes hands this week through Welsh guitarist Jonny Buckland: The highest Coldplay song has been "Viva la Vida" for months, but now it's "Something Just like This" after sudden gains.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming. Here is the Global 200 update for June 15th. It's even smaller. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Random new peak in the lower end of the chart: Morocco. Two songs by Moroccan rapper French Montana previously peaked at #137 on the main chart, but with "Unforgettable" moving up to #133 this week just based on steady streams, the tie is decisively broken. - Speaking of old rap, there is yet another American chart-topper to address. Eminem with "Houdini" dominates the top of both global charts, extending the American reign even more. - Now some June 15th specifics. • On the main chart only, Central Cee's new single "Band4Band" climbs above Artemas, giving him the title of biggest Brit in the world. It's somewhat surprising that Artemas still holds the United Kingdom on the Excl. US chart, considering Americans' normal apathy with UK rap. • Eurovision's come, and now it's finally going. "Europapa" has finally dropped hard enough for Tiësto and W&W on "Thank You (Not So Bad)" to take the Netherlands from Joost on both charts. • Argentina's back after one of it's longest slumps in recent Global 200 history, though it's with a humble debut in the lower half of the Excl. US chart. Mexican band los Ángeles Azules marches in with "Perdonarte, ¿Para Qué?" a new single featuring Argentine singer Emilia. • The stability of "One of the Girls" continues to surprise, as the Weeknd's presence on it now makes it the highest song with a Canadian on both charts. • Coldplay is fluctuating hard again for some reason. This time, it's "Yellow" that randomly shoots up and rules Wales on this week's charts.
