US chart, "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter nabs a new #1 for the United States on the main chart this week. - June 22nd headlines now. • With a big, Army-backed debut, Jungkook takes the South Korean crown from the Korean members of Aespa this week due to "Never Let Go" outdebuting "Supernova" by a smidge. • Argentina's slump officially ends as "Real Gangsta Love" by Argentine rapper Trueno starts to smash. It debuts high on the main chart, bringing Argentina back there, and rises well over a hundred spots on the Excl. US chart, taking Argentina from Emilia there. • Sơn Tùng M-TP, the current Vietnamese record holder, puts Vietnam back on the global charts after a long, long hiatus, as "Đừng làm trái tim anh đau" debuts near the bottom of the Excl. US chart. • Artemas's stability means "I Like the Way You Kiss Me" takes the United Kingdom back from Central Cee once the latter starts showing some post-debut weakness. • In a similar vein, "Greedy" retakes Canada and "Take On Me" retakes Norway on the main chart this week. • Uruguay gets its second Global 200 entry ever, just a couple months after its first, (and just a couple of weeks after that song fell off) with the La Planta's "Hoy" debuting at the very bottom of the Excl. US chart.

Welcome to what could easily be the slowest week of news for the Global 200 in its history. Only two things happened! It's kind of impressive. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Sabrina Carpenter replaces herself at #1 on both charts, giving another American victory at the top. Of the sixteen songs to top the main Global 200 chart in 2024, fifteen have been by Americans. On the Excl. US chart, the ratio is not much better at eight out of ten. - And the one June 29th specific headline... • Jungkook's last single falls very hard, which is surprising considering his performance last year, and it gives room for "Supernova" by Aespa to easily reclaim the title of biggest Korean song in the world.

Happy Independence Day! Latin classic "Hips Don't Lie" featuring Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean posted enough gains to give Haiti a new all-time peak on the global charts. On the main chart, Haiti's peak rises from #193 to #174, and on the Excl. US chart, it rises from #169 to #132. - Now we can move onto the July 6th specifics, where there is a lot of shuffling to be seen. • Feid, with arguably the biggest Spanish hit of the year, has held onto the Colombian crown since winter, but he is finally dethroned on these charts through the expected enormous debut of "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido" by Karol G. • Another unsurprising smash comes from NewJeans, whose "Supernatural" debuts high enough on both charts to steal back South Korea from Aespa (and Australia from themselves). • In a rare K-pop move that only exists on the main chart, NOT the Excl. US chart, "Magnetic" shows enough late gains to rise over "Supernova" this week, allowing the Japanese members of Illit to overtake the Japanese member of Aespa to be the biggest from Japan. • New Zealand hits the global charts with, if memory serves right, their first song to not be an old, recurrent streaming hit or through a K-pop group member since... the last time Lorde charted. This is, of course, through the Internet's favorite kiwi, Lorde, who features on "The Girl, So Confusing Version with Lorde" by Charli XCX. • Coldplay have a new single out, and their constant presence on the global charts made it a certainty it would do well. Many readers will probably be pleased to hear Scottish bassist Guy Berryman replaces Lewis Capaldi to rule Scotland for the first time this year. • Northern Irish Jordan Adetunji gives UK subunit Nothern Ireland its second global hit since the chart's inception with "Kehlani."

Even if they're all not too big, there are a bunch of new peaks to talk about in this edition of Global 200 updates. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Let's start with Iran, who only debuted on the charts a couple of months ago and are now keeping the momentum up. Familiar Iranian face Sevdaliza debuts at #111 with "Alibi," a collab with Brazilian Pabllo Vittar and French Yseult. This just barely edges out the #112 peak of her previous hit "Ride or Die, Pt. 2" to become the new all-time Iranian peak. On the Excl. US chart, the previous #66 peak for Iran is beaten by a strong #53 debut. - Vaguely defined UK subdivision Northern Ireland gets its second piece of news in Global 200 history. The re-recorded "Taylor's Version" of Taylor Swift's old minor hit "The Last Time" hit the Global 200 back in 2021 when the Red re-recording dropped, and it once again featured Northern Irish frontman of Snow Patrol, Gary Lightbody. This week, the all-time peak for Northern Ireland is now represented by a fully current song, with "Kehlani" by Northern Irish Jordan Adetunji rising to #59, just beating Gary Lightbody's old #61 peak. On the Excl. US chart, Adetunji's #116 beats Lightbody's #124. - Speaking of old hits, "Hips Don't Lie" still has some recurrent momentum, meaning Wyclef Jean's presence on it moves Haiti's peak from #174 to #165 on the main chart and from #132 to #125 on the Excl. US chart. - I would be remiss to not mention the new #1 on the Excl. US chart, one of the only chart toppers of the year not by an American, with "Rockstar" by Thai rapper Lisa debuting there. She, of course, also takes the weekly Thailand crown from Chiquita and Pharita of BabyMonster, who have held it for a full season. - Now for the July 13th specifics. • As implied above, Pabllo Vittar now wears the Brazilian crown on both charts (and gives Brazil its highest charter in a while). Sevdaliza also overtakes Tiësto and W&W to be the highest Dutch person on the charts this week. • The big debut of "Smeraldo Garden Marching Band" by Koreans Jimin and Loco easily nabs South Korea from "Supernatural" by NewJeans. • Coldplay's new single from last week, despite holding on surprisingly well, was not strong enough to beat out their monster catalog streams. In fact, it seems to have boosted them, with "Viva la Vida" now at the top for both Scotland and Wales. Perhaps Lewis Capaldi's iron grip over Scotland has truly loosened. • Camila Cabello once again puts Cuba back on the charts with her new album debuting one song, and what else could it be but the Drake collab? • Norway on the Excl. US chart goes back to "Take On Me" by A-ha for the first time since the debut of Kygo's "Whatever" in February.

Or rather, Sevdaliza keeps making 2024 her year. Her debut from last week, "Alibi," leaps from #111 to #52 on the main chart this week, moving the general Iranian peak in the same way. The jump is from #53 to #32 on the Excl. US chart. In either case, Iran breaks through impressive thresholds. - Northern Ireland also keeps its momentum up through the Excl. US chart only. In fact, "Kehlani" dropped a few spots on the main chart this week, but Jordan Adetunji's hit posted great gains elsewhere, letting him bring the Northern Irish peak on that secondary chart from #116 up to #93. Every UK subunit has now hit the top half of either chart. - Now for some July 20th specifics. • In a move which I'm relieved only happened now due to how hard it was to research the nationalities of the three previous unknowns involved, Germany changes hands. "Move" by German DJ Adam Port (with producer Stryv and vocalist Malachiii, both Americans) jumps up a quarter of each chart to fully leapfrog the "Pedro" remix by German DJs Jaxomy and Agatino Romero. • Can you believe this week is the FIRST time India cracks the main chart this year? The terrible drought is broken by the super high debut of "Tauba Tauba" by Indian rapper Karan Aujla. • Illit's scary stability with "Magnetic" allows them to take the South Korean crown back from Jimin and Loco this week (and the Japanese crown back from Aespa on the Excl. US chart). • With the music video boost, "Not like Us" by Kendrick Lamar continues its overkill combo and returns to the #1 spot on the main chart, taking back the American crown from Sabrina Carpenter there.

Oops I straight up forgot this yesterday. "Alibi" moves up from #52 to #19 on the main chart and from #32 to #11 on the Excl. US chart. Iranian-Dutch Sevdaliza not only brings Iran into the top twenty for the first time, but she comes very close to the all-time peak for the Netherlands currently held by Tiësto on both charts. Considering the crazy momentum "Alibi" is showing, it isn't out of the question. - Shakira's big catalog hit "Hips Don't Lie" also shows some recurrent momentum, and Wyclef Jean's appearance on it means Haiti humbly moves its all-time peak from #165 to #135 on the main chart and #125 to #89 on the Excl. US chart. (This also means Haiti no longer has the lowest peak among charting countries on the main chart. That dubious title now goes to Iceland.) - Who wants some July 27th specifics? • Another consequence of the success of "Alibi" involves France. French singer Yseult has a verse on it, and that means she overtakes David Guetta on both charts to be the biggest artist from France this week. • Only on the main chart, Myles Smith's "Stargazing" rises just enough to outrank Artemas, making it the first song to beat out "I Like the Way You Kiss Me" for biggest British tune in the world NOT from a strong but short debut to do so since the start of Artemas's reign. On the Excl. US chart, Artemas easily continues his four-month-long iron grip over the UK. • Also only on the main chart, Megan Thee Stallion's "Mamushi" shows enough viral potential for guest rapper Yuki Chiba to rise over Illit's Japanese members and become the highest representative from Japan this week. • Ez Mil, a feature on the new Eminem album, debuts low on the main chart, but it's still enough to say the Philippines are back on.

As it turns out, Han of Stray Kids spent enough of his childhood in Malaysia to count as a representative of the country in my spreadsheet. This means Malaysia should've debuted over a year ago, but I didn't look closely enough at each individual Stray Kids member at the time. I'll spend some time this week going back and editing the timeline sheet to account for this, but for now, here are this week's Malaysia stats with Han in mind. On the main chart, debuting "Chk Chk Boom" ties at #10 with "Lalalala" from earlier this year to be the highest Malaysian peaks of all time on the main chart due to Han's presence. On the Excl. US chart, "Chk Chk Boom" debuts at #4 to beat "Lalalala" and its #6 debut. - Iran keeps it up, though the gains aren't as spectacular now that it's smashed into the upper echelons of the charts. This week, taking the Iranian peak with it, Sevdaliza's "Alibi" moves from #19 to #16 on the main chart (from #11 to #9 on the Excl. US chart). - "Kehlani" by Jordan Adetunji regains some momentum, moving Northern Ireland's peak from #59 to #57 on the main chart (from #93 to #79 on the Excl. US chart). - Only on the main chart, Haiti posts the smallest gain possible as "Hips Don't Lie" moves to #134 from #135. - South Korea returns to the top of the chart after one of its longest #1 droughts, with Jimin's "Who" debuting there twice. - Now to get to the August 3rd specifics. • The big Stray Kids debut mentioned earlier also becomes the biggest song with an Australian presence on it in the world due to the presences of Bang Chan and Felix. • Lots of Latin returns. The Dominican Republic back through the debut of "Hay Lupita" by Lomiiel, and Boza and Elena Rose on "Orion" bring Panama and Venezuela, respectively, back on the Excl. US chart.

On this episode of Global 200 updates, we set up some surprise tools that will help us later: Songs with the momentum to imminently break their nations' records. The first is Iran, whose representative song "Alibi" (and therefore Iran's Peak) moves up just one spot on either chart: #16 to #15 on the main chart and #9 to #8 on the Excl. US chart. - Then there's Jordan Adetunji's "Kehlani" which is stable on the main chart but makes a slight jump from #79 to #72 on the Excl. US chart, bringing the Northern Irish peak up with it. - Now for those August 10th specifics. • "Birds of a Feather" replaces "Espresso" to become the biggest American song on both charts, one of the only leaders of the United States to not debut there this year. • Indian rapper Hanumankind, supported by fellow Indian producer Kalmi, debut their song "Big Dawgs" with enough rare American streams to easily overtake "Tauba Tauba" by Karan Aujla for the Indian crown (though only on the main chart). Not only is this some rare south Indian representation on the global charts, it is only about ten spots on the main chart lower than the all-time Indian peak currently held by "Lut Gaye," and that American attention could do a lot to push it over the edge. • The Netherlands also has its record in danger. Sevdaliza's earlier-mentioned "Alibi" represents both Iran and the Netherlands because of her, and on both charts, it is only THREE ranks away from the all-time Dutch peak: "The Business" by Tiësto. • The Philippines is back on the Excl. US chart for non-Black Eyed Peas reasons for the first time in over a year. "Sining" by Filipinos Dionela and Jay R is currently doing very well on streaming and might have the momentum to stay a while, sadly a rarity for most of Southeast Asia.

Once again a real late update from me, and I feel bad because there's big news for one of the biggest countries in the world. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- "Big Dawgs" by Indians Hanumankind and Kalmi rises up to #17 on the main chart and #13 on the Excl. US chart, utterly smashing the previous Indian record. "Lut Gaye" by Jubin Nautiyal previously peaked at #47 on the main chart and #23 on the Excl. US chart, and it's somehow held on to that peak since 2021. Many fellow Bollywood songs have come near, but none were quite able to close the margins (especially poor "Arjan Vailly" which would have cinched the all-time peak if not for Christmas songs). "Big Dawgs" has the benefit of being a hip-hop song that's appealing a lot to Americans right now, giving it the numbers to break the second most populous country into the top twenty for the first time. - The second wind of "Kehlani" by Northern Irish singer Jordan Adetunji is bigger than ever, bringing Northern Ireland's peak up from #57 to #22 (#72 to #38 the Excl. US chart). This is probably the first time in a long while a Northern Irish musician has a way bigger hit than any Scot or Welsh at the same moment. - The United States manifests another chart-topper with "Birds of a Feather" by Billie Eilish, just stable enough to go to #1 on both global charts this week. - Some August 17th specific headlines. • Speaking of Billie Eilish, arguably her bigger story this week is her appearance on the remix of "Guess" by Charli XCX, which is enough of a smash to debut above "Stargazing" by Myles Smith on both charts and take the British crown for the week. • Current all-time Belgian peak holder Lost Frequencies puts Belgium back on the main chart with a remix of an old Tom Odell song. On the Excl. US chart, the song rises high enough to overtake a remix of an old Dido song by Belgian duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. • Spain returns to the Excl. US chart after a long absence with 2003 hit "Rosas" by Spanish pop band la Oreja de Van Gogh suddenly posting huge recurrent streaming numbers.

Lisa, of course, replaces herself on "Rockstar" for Thailand's weekly crown while Rosalía brings Spain back to the main Global 200 for the first time since May, a drought of Spaniards not seen since the chart's early days. On the Excl. US chart, she replaces la Oreja de Van Gogh for the crown. • Would you believe this is the first week in a year Australia's highest song on the Global 200 is neither K-pop, Christmas, nor by an Aussie producer who mostly just remixed a non-Aussie song? Stray Kids' "Chk Chk Boom" falls hard (though not as hard as previous Stray Kids hits) and loses out the Australian crown to "Nights like This" by the Kid Laroi due to some crazy good American streaming. That's why this only applies to the main chart; Stray Kids still have it on the Excl. US chart. • Meanwhile, only on the Excl. US chart, another very long streak is broken. The very multi-cultural "Santa" with Puerto Rican guest star Rauw Alejandro has held that Puerto Rico crown on both charts since May, but it's finally beaten by a song that's been hovering just under it for almost just as long: The so-called "Red" remix of "WYA" by J Abdiel and iZaak which features Yan Block, Jay Wheeler, and De la Rose, all five of them representing Puerto Rico.

Here's the update for the fourth birthday of the Billboard Global 200! docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- Palestine is not only back on the global charts, it has a new peak to show off. This was probably bound to happen, considering current events. Coldplay's new single "We Pray" pulls guest vocalists from all over the world, including prolific Palestinian singer Elyanna. On the Excl. US chart, "We Pray" debuts at #98, allowing Elyanna to easily smash through the previous Palestinian peak song: "Better Believe" by famed Weeknd associate and Palestinian rapper Belly, which hit #154 back in 2021. "Better Believe" (as you might expect from a song with Weeknd and Young Thug guest verses) got way higher on the main Global 200 due to American support, so it retains the title of Palestine's peak there. Elyanna also has Chilean ancestry, which doesn't count for the spreadsheet but does show how much of a banner year this has been for Chile. - The United States replaces itself at the top of both charts again. This time it's not from a debut but rather Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars leapfrogging Billie Eilish. That's the 15th American chart topper on the main chart this year. - Now for those September 7th specifics. • "We Pray" isn't done serving up the headlines yet. Another featured artist on the track is Tini, representing Argentina. In an inverse of the Palestine news, this only affects the main chart, where Trueno's "Real Gangsta Love" has fallen hard enough for Tini to claim the Argentine crown. • On the Excl. US chart, Felix and Bang Chan of Stray Kids lose out Australia to the stability of "Stumblin' In" by Cyril. • Also only on the Excl. US chart, Iranian-Swedish vocalist Arash, featured on up-and-coming EDM hit "I Adore You," debuts above Avicii to take the Swedish crown for the week.

"Crazy" by le Sserafim debuts high enough for Japanese members Kazuha and Sakura to snatch the Japanese crown for the week from Yuki Chiba on the main chart and from Giselle of Aespa on the Excl. US chart. • Following in the footsteps of what happened a couple weeks ago on the Excl. US chart, Puerto Rican posse cut "WYA Remix Red" now leads Puerto Rico instead of "Santa" on the main chart. • Turkey returns to the Excl. US chart with its usual method, the high-stream debut of a rapper. This time, it's Semicenk with his second visit to my spreadsheet. • Self-titled "global girl group" Katseye seem to have indeed put in the work to earn that title. The debut of their second single "Touch" on the Excl. US chart makes two splashes. The sextet puts Switzerland back on the chart due to Swiss member Manon and takes the Philippines from Dionela due to Filipino member Sophia. • Coldplay songs (and therefore Welsh and Scottish crowns) swap, with "Yellow" rising over "Viva la Vida" this week on both charts.

The Global 200 is still in a cooldown period, but here's what this week had to offer. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jSdctFcLyQl6HJYoi9Jr2OHFGkn-TBnxWVFNxMlzrto/edit?usp=sharing- "We Pray" gets a boost in streams, bolstered by the "Tini version" which released last week. This brings it back to the main chart and, more importantly, gives it a new peak on the Excl. US chart. That means Elyanna's feature on it brings Palestine up to a new peak of #71 from its #98 debut. - Now for the September 21st specifics. • "We Pray" isn't done yet. As "Santa" with Ayra Starr finally begins to lose steam, it topples down the charts, allowing Burna Boy's feature on "We Pray" to hand him the Nigerian crown for the week on both charts. He's held this position a lot less often than you might think, considering how prolific he is. This also lets Tini finally take the Argentine crown on the Excl. US chart from Trueno. • After debuting on the Excl. US chart in the past couple weeks, "I Adore You" with Arash and "Touch" by Katseye debut on the main chart this week, bringing Sweden, the Philippines, and Switzerland back to the main chart for the first time each in a long time. • I've been saying a lot lately that Canada's record on my spreadsheet this year is very sad, and it's gotten even sadder. I've let my eyes glaze over the truly old hits when I compile these, and that means I haven't noticed that "Save Your Tears" has charted above "One of the Girls" for the past month on both charts, making that the top song from Canada for all those weeks.

Even without him, this would still happen, as Tate McRae debuted just below. • "We Pray" loses its small boost, so Nigeria is once again claimed by Ayra Starr instead of Burna Boy on both charts. • On the Excl. US chart, Cyril switches Australia with himself, his remix of Disturbed's "The Sound of Silence" jumping over "Stumblin' In."

Their collab off the former's new album "Que Vas Hacer Hoy?" debuts very high, well above what's needed to take Puerto Rico from Bad Bunny for the week. • This last one is only on the Excl. US chart: Tito Double P notches a week wearing the Mexican crown with his viral album cut "El Lokeron" rising high above Peso Pluma and Neton Vega on "La Patrulla."

There's a good batch of news this week on the Global 200, including old songs and new songs. With the "Guess" remix losing steam, "Stargazing" has the room to become the biggest British song again. Considering the new Brat remix album, this probably won't last. • "We Pray" posts huge gains with the release of the new Coldplay album, meaning the song now leads Scotland and Wales for the first time. • Creepy Nuts have another anime theme making the rounds, one strong enough to even hit the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. This lets "Otonoke" easily take Japan's crown from Kazuha and Sakura of le Sserafim. • Though it gets a resurgence every year in this month, Girl in Red's 2018 signature song "We Fell in Love in October" finally has the streaming numbers to take the Norwegian crown for the week. She beats out fellow dinosaur "Take On Me" for it. • Spurred on by its use in a controversial TV show, "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House has hit the global charts at age thirty-three. Lead singer Neil Finn hails from New Zealand, allowing this classic to bring the archipelago back onto the tally. • Lisa replaces herself for Thailand on both charts with the usual high debut of her new single. • Everything above went for both charts, but we end with a main chart-only stat. Tito Double P repeats his feat from last week, with "El Lokeron" becoming the Mexican leader on the main chart, too.

The "remix" of "Sympathy Is a Knife" with Ariana Grande debuts just above "Stargazing" on both charts, becoming the biggest British song right off the bat. • "Tu Boda" by Mexican Oscar Maydon and Americans Fuerza Regida has a meteoric rise from its debut, zooming right past "El Lokeron" and allowing Oscar Maydon to beat out Tito Double P to be the biggest Mexican this week. • The five month reign of "Supernova" finally ends. Seventeen, including Chinese members Jun and The8, debut their DJ Khaled collaboration, "Love, Money, Fame," above where Aespa (with Chinese member Ningning) ranks this week. • The boost Coldplay's "We Pray" saw with the album release dissipates, giving room for "Viva la Vida" to once again lead Scotland and Wales on both charts. • Turkey makes a return to the Excl. US chart with the low debut of "Yesemen" by singer Afra. • Hilariously, as the Cyril remix of Disturbed's "The Sound of Silence" loses steam, "Stay" by the Kid Laroi becomes the highest song by an Australian on the Excl. US chart. To be clear, this is nearly the end of 2024. (Honorable mention to BB Trickz, whose remix of Charli XCX's "Club Classics" caused the song to rise high enough where she totally would've been the highest musician from Spain on the tally... if her version were the dominant and credited one.)

Each act adds a second No. 1 on the Global 100 & Global Excl. U.S.
ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” moves in at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts.
BLACKPINK member ROSÉ achieves her second No. 1 as a soloist on each chart, after “On the Ground” likewise led in its debut week in March 2021. As a group, BLACKPINK boasts two leaders on the Global 200 and three on Global Excl. U.S. She is the first member of the quartet with multiple No. 1s on the charts; the act’s Jennie and LISA have notched one Global Excl. U.S. No. 1 each.
Mars, meanwhile, dethrones his first No. 1 on both surveys: “Die With a Smile,” with Lady Gaga, dips to No. 2 on each chart. He’s both the first act to replace himself at No. 1 and take the top two spots simultaneously on each list since Sabrina Carpenter earlier this year with “Espresso” and follow-up “Please Please Please.”
Elsewhere, Oscar Maydon and Fuerza Regida’s “Tu Boda” bounds to the top 10 of both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S.; Morgan Wallen’s “Love Somebody” launches at No. 8 on the Global 200; and One Direction’s “Night Changes” hits the Global Excl. U.S. top 10 following the passing of the group’s Liam Payne.
The Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts, which began in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.
Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.
Released Oct. 18, “APT.” arrives atop the Global 200 with a staggering 224.5 million streams, as well as 29,000 sold, worldwide through Oct. 24. The song claims the second-biggest streaming week since the Global 200 began.
Here’s a look at all five weeks in which songs topped 200 million streams worldwide (with one belonging to BLACKPINK):

Despite dropping to No. 2 on the Global 200, following eight weeks at No. 1 (the most for any song this year), “Die With a Smile” drew 120.6 million streams (up 10% week-over-week) worldwide Oct. 18-24. The song has tallied more than 100 million streams globally in each of the last eight weeks, the most in a row since The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” linked nine triple-digit weeks in August-October 2021.
Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” slips 2-3 on the Global 200, following three weeks at No. 1 beginning in August.
Oscar Maydon and Fuerza Regida’s “Tu Boda” blasts 22-4 on the Global 200, led by 75.1 million streams (up 119%). Each act reaches the top 10 for the first time.
Rounding out the Global 200’s top five, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” descends 4-5, following three nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in June.
Plus, Morgan Wallen’s “Love Somebody” debuts at No. 8 on the Global 200 with 38.2 million streams and 19,000 sold worldwide from its Oct. 18 release through Oct. 24. The country star scores his third top 10 on the chart.
“APT.” concurrently starts atop Global Excl. U.S. with 200 million streams and 21,000 sold outside the U.S. Oct. 18-24.
As on the Global 200, “Die With a Smile” ranks at No. 2 on Global Excl. U.S. following eight weeks at No. 1.
Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” keeps at No. 3 on Global Excl. U.S., following three weeks at No. 1 beginning in August, and Jennie’s “Mantra” places at No. 4, a week after it opened at No. 2.
Oscar Maydon and Fuerza Regida’s “Tu Boda” jumps 17-5 on Global Excl. U.S., with 60.1 million streams (up 111%). The acts each appear in the top 10 for the first time.
Additionally, One Direction’s “Night Changes” surges 95-10 on Global Excl. U.S., up 131% to 37.6 million streams and 573% to 3,000 sold outside the U.S. Oct. 18-24, after the group’s Liam Payne died Oct. 16. The song becomes the boy band’s first top 10 since the Global 200 began; it hit No. 31 on the U.S.-based Billboard Hot 100 in 2014.

Not only does Bruno Mars replace himself for another American chart-topper, Rosé gives New Zealand, Australia, and South Korea another #1 each as she represents all three. She replaces Neil Finn of Crowded House, the Kid Laroi, and bandmate Jennie for those crowns, respectively. - Now to get to the November 2nd specifics. • Due to the untimely death of Liam Payne, One Direction gets a surge in activity this week. It's enough for their most-streamed song (despite being far from their biggest hit at the time) "Night Changes" to hit the top twenty on both charts. This means it's the biggest British song of the week, easily beating out Charli XCX from last week, whose song collapsed in streams. One of One Direction's members, Niall Horan, is Irish, and the surge was also enough for him to beat out the aging "Too Sweet" to hold the Irish crown for the week. • Aespa has a big new hit. Japanese member Giselle takes Japan's title from Creepy Nuts while Chinese member Ningning takes China back from the two Chinese members of Seventeen. This impressive, considering both of those losing songs rose this week. • All the momentum "We Pray" had from the album fully dissipates, and Ayra Starr's feature on "Santa" retakes Nigeria this week from Burna Boy's feature on that song. • Indian singers Madhubanti Bagchi and Divya Kumar, composer Sachin–Jigar, and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya on Bollywood soundtrack song "Aaj Ki Raat" (all of them really are credited) take India from Hanumankind and Kalmi on the Excl. US chart as "Big Dawgs" loses steam. • Belgium returns to the Excl. US chart with producer Ariis's take on Brazilian funk, "Funk do Bounce," debuting.

Lots of focus on the United States this week, so let's instead look at the trends of the world at large. Caesar features on the biggest debut from the Tyler, the Creator album bomb, "St. Chroma," which landed well over "Timeless" this week. For such a relatively small artist, this is surprisingly his second time wearing the Canadian crown. The first was his feature on "Peaches" by Justin Bieber • The globetrotting smash hit "Alibi" finally takes some damage. Paulistas DJ Tuto and MC Glenner get a huge debut from their viral single "Barbie" and claim Brazil for the week on both charts over Pabllo Vittar's appearance on "Alibi." • "Big Dawgs" suffers on the main chart, so the same thing that happened to it last week on the Excl. US chart happens again. "Aaj Ki Raat" is now definitively the biggest Indian song in the world. • Since there's so little news this week, here's a bit of extra for you all. Israel should totally be represented on the chart this week, but it isn't. Halloween hit "Spooky, Scary Skeletons" by 70s American soft rock star Andrew Gold makes it usual return to the charts this week. However, it's not the original novelty song which is a hit these days. The modern classic being played at Halloween parties is a dubstep remix by the superstar for the chronically online, Israeli DJ the Living Tombstone. You know him if you've spent any time on the Internet lately. However! That version isn't the hit, either. At least, not off YouTube. The one officially uploaded under Andrew Gold's name on streaming sites is a recreation by Gold's label to capitalize on the dubstep version's popularity. TLT had no involvement with that. Yet it's the version getting the streams, so he is uncredited on the charts.

The US music industry first made a valiant effort to "globalize" in the 1980s. They did a really good job overall. However, we all know what "globalization" really meant at that time. It meant getting all the US artists to dominate every country's airwaves and record stores. Rarely did we ever see other countries' artists get any attention on the US airwaves and record stores.
I loved reading Billboard magazine's "Hits of the World" section and seeing how well American songs were doing on the global charts, and also seeing the few songs that weren't American do well on the global charts.
In 1989, the Year-End chart for the Tokyo Hot 100 was dominated by American and British acts. The #1 song of the year in Japan was "Batdance" by Prince.
Flash forward to today, and boy have things changed. Pretty much, any song by any artist in the world now has a fair chance of becoming a hit. The playing field has been leveled.
(The Big 3 record conglomerates all have offices in 60, 70, maybe even 80 countries in the world.)
Question, after looking at both the Billboard Global 200 and the Excl. US charts for the past 4 years, has there been any overarching trends that have emerged? Many people have asked me what's the difference between the 2 charts? (Besides the obvious answer of one chart includes US data and the other chart does not.) But, what is the resulting impact of including US data and excluding US data? Ex: Does the including US chart have more Country songs and more Rap/Hip-Hop songs? Does the excluding US chart have more non-American songs, like K-Pop and Latin records, or does it have more older American songs?

The crowns fall back into the hands of the Weeknd and Anitta, respectively. Daniel Caesar for Canada and MC Tuto/DJ Glenner for Brazil might not end up one-week wonders for their countries, though, considering both songs still show some powerful streaming momentum. • Thai members Chiquita and Pharita of Babymonster take Thailand's crown from Lisa with their new single "Drip" debuting very high, easily beating out "Moonlit Floor" for the week. • Duki brings Argentina back to the chart. "Nueva Era" off his newest album charts and makes him the first lead Argentinian to make it in a few months. (He also replaces Tini on the Excl. US chart since "We Pray" is still charting there.) • Only on the main chart (for now), Myles Smith shows how patience can pay off. "Stargazing" once again becomes the biggest British song in the world due to everything else from the isle collapsing. Even more damning than that, what it replaces is the posthumous boost of decade-old "Life Changes" by One Direction. The UK is oddly low on hits right now. In fact, Myles Smith is the only Brit in the top FIFTY of the main chart this week. • Also only on the main chart, Daft Punk on the evergreen hit "Starboy" take France back from Yseult on "Alibi." For a large chunk of this chart's existence, "Starboy" was the biggest song with French presence in any given week, but it hasn't held that crown since this April. France put up a fight for over half a year, but the catalog streams finally won another round. • Only on the Excl. US chart this time, "Sana Güvenmiyorum" by Turkish band Dedublüman and Turkish singer Aleyna Tilki brings Turkey back into the fold.

Damn I have been forgetting to get these in on time a lot lately. This is the Global 200 update for LAST WEEK. The chart dated November 23rd. The one for this week hopefully comes out tomorrow as usual. This one's a small one with only a few November 23rd specific headlines. On the main chart, where Christmas is always stronger, "Last Christmas" already leapfrogs the rest and becomes the biggest British song in the world. Recall that the tracking week for this started on November 9th... On the Excl. US chart, the story is even sadder, depending on your perspective. Myles Smith is out of momentum, so the biggest British song on that chart is "Yellow" by Coldplay this week. • "Timeless" proves its got the real legs of this Weeknd era, and it easily retakes the Canadian crown on both charts. • Turkey appears on the main chart for the first time since May. It's the same song from last week's Excl. US chart, "Sana Güvenmiyorum" by Dedublüman and Aleyna Tilki, which gains enough momentum this week to make it. Apparently, it's a live cover of a 90s song.

The global populace has graced us with an eventful week of movement on the Global 200 just before the freeze! It's the rare case of a non-English album having a stronger bomb on the main chart. It smashes enough for its biggest debut, "Qué Pasaría..." with Bad Bunny, to overtake Omar Courtz and De la Rose to become the biggest Puerto Rican song in the world. • Speaking of Rauw Alejandro, he also brings Italy back to the charts. His album includes a reimagining of "Se Fue" by Italian superstar Laura Pausini, one of the many Spanish-language versions of her Italian hits in the 90s. Rauw Alejandro's new version features Laura Pausini herself, so Italy graces the charts for the first time in three months. • "I Adore You" gets a big boost in numbers, and since it's such an international collab, it shakes things up for several countries. One of the featured singers, Arash, is Iranian-Swedish, so he brings Sweden back onto the main chart and hops over Sevdaliza to become the biggest singer from Iran this week on both charts. In a similar vein, one of the DJs. Hugel, is French, so on the Excl. US chart, he leapfrogs Yseult--on the very same track as Sevdaliza!--to become the biggest from France. (The big boost for this song is from a J Balvin and Ellie Goulding remix, but it didn't do enough to be the primary version in this tracking week.) • MC Tuto and DJ Glenner take Brazil back on the Excl. US chart with "Barbie" proving to have more legs than Anitta's "São Paulo" with the Weeknd. • Christmas full takes hold of the UK, with "Last Christmas" making the gains needed to take the British crown from "Yellow" on the Excl. US chart this week.
