Late to the party but I'll comment as I go!
I'm glad this placed last, obviously, since it was my last. I actually think the main reason why I don't care for the song is that it's such a jarring into following marjorie, and I think of this song as just being noisy so I haven't been able to get into it in any way.
I liked this more of the two bonus tracks and tbh, I probably placed it artificially high but it fits so well in with the album(s) more than the other bonus track and even more than some of the songs that made the regular edition.
I don't really have much to say about this song. Maybe it'll jump out with more listens later on but right now it's just there for me so my placement for it was probably the result of it just being pushed down.
Despite my placement, I don't dislike this by any means. It would probably be better on the album that "no body, no crime" belongs on.
I didn't expect it to go far here though, this is the crowd that put "It's Nice to Have a Friend" dead last on
Lover. bland-ass hoes.
That song deserves but Lover is such a strong album (to me) that even I put it at 16/18. :( I always thought it was such a nice segway into the album's finale.
When doing the rankdown, this song did start to grow on me. Not enough to escape the bottom 2 of course, but I'm warming to it. I still find it fairly plain lyrically compared to the others on the album and the melody is so subtle but I get why it's on the album.
I knew this song would be tanked but it's one of the ones that worms its way into my head. Such a shame :(
I ranked this higher than I remembered, but then I remembered how there's a bunch of songs in the middle tier that were almost interchangeable on my rankdown. I wish I liked this more, especially compared to exile, but I also feel like the comparisons to exile are inevitable and this one clearly doesn't compete with it so it ends up looking worse than it actually is.
I knew this wouldn't go far and I'm okay with it. I acknowledge that my love of it is more on a personal level, moreso than that of the other songs, so I'm not phased. I'm probably more disappointed that I wasn't the only #1 for it than anything lmao.
Upbeat songs on albums that are mainly mid-tempo or slower usually stand out to me much more than this one did and I think it's because I feel like this one tries too hard to be catchy and it ends up falling flat for me.
I just find the structure of this song fascinating. It isn't really a standout otherwise but it fits in so well with the album(s) that it's a necessity by this point, plus the lyrics and story are so heartbreaking.
This isn't a song I've had an urge to seek out and listen to but when it does play while I'm listening to the album, I always note how nice it is. Even now while waiting for its reveal, I also wondered why it was still in and when I saw that I gave it an 8 rank, I was a bit surprised until I played back a bit of the song and was like, yeah, that's why.
I'd say this one missing the top
2 5 hurts more than marjorie because this one is just so catchy and has such a beautifully heartbreaking story to it that I believe all who ranked it low probably just didn't understand it. I'll say listen to it again, read along to the lyrics, and let's have a book club about it - all before the next rankdown.
I might actually feel the same about gold rush that I do about long story short, except I do quite enjoy this. It wouldn't sound out of place on Lover - so with that said, I'd totally be okay swapping cornelia street with gold rush.
I think my favourite thing about this song (and many others from folklore/evermore) is the subtle production. This is one of those songs that beg to be heard on nice headphones on high because there's so much happening in the space left between the instruments. I don't even think the lyrics or melody are all that compared to others on the album but the production is where it's at.
I'm really disappointed this is #3 because of the songs left it was my highest yet and because it's just such an all-around beautiful song. From the first line "you booked a night train for a reason" you know something is up and you know it's foreshadowing to heartbreak and I think those types of stories (novels, movies) are the most impactful so Taylor taking it and applying it to a song is something special. Then the reason behind the heartbreak intensifies it.
Sorry Pulse. You really got this one wrong, especially considering the two that beat it.
Between willow and no body, no crime, I'm not sure what I wanted to win out in the end. Both have their pros but both have their cons too. I really like the sound of willow yet I actually find it hard to recall the melody of it when I'm not listening to it. I can't decide if I like it more or less than cardigan, for example, but I find willow a more impressive song.
no body, no crime is a catchy song and I do enjoy it, but I've mentioned before how it sticks out from the album so much that it was hard to even rank with the others. In that sense, it's disappointing that it ended up winning because that implies the rest of the album - which exists as a set - doesn't compare to the song that would be okay if it existed as its own separate entity. Of course, I realize that I probably look too much into the album aspect of it. I just find albums like these really special so they're almost sacred to me.

This was a fun rankdown you guys! Thanks for hosting it!
