I love "Blinding Lights" and it's run is amazing. But it becoming the best performing Hot 100 song of all time is proof that the all-time charts favors recent, streaming fueled songs. It's just as much radio fueled as it is streaming fueled. To me, the "streaming fueled" hits are the ones that debut at #1 and fall off the charts in a matter of weeks. Yeah I know, but you can't deny that it's been easier for songs to hold on to the charts with streaming. "Sunflower" is still charting on Streaming Songs I think lmao. If it wasn't for the 52-week rule, "Radioactive"'s record would be toast already. (And I wouldn't completely rule out BL breaking that, but it's gonna be hard).

Here's to hoping hole in the bottle becomes a hit and makes the YE. Based on its current trajectory, it's expected to peak in mid-February and reach 20 weeks in mid-March, and it lost 5 weeks to 2020. Maybe it'll be enough to make it, but unless it does what One Man Band pulled off last year and sticks around a bit longer in the top 50 thanks to streaming, I don't see it happening. However, as I mentioned earlier, I do see it outpeaking her biggest hit Peter Pan (#35 in 2016).

Also, might just be me, (and COVID-related restrictions and stay at home orders can also affect this), but I don't think the song was ever as ubiquitous as "Despacito", "Shape of You" or "Uptown Funk". Nothing wrong with it, BL has the stats to back up the all-time ranking. It's just a bit weird that it could end up as the best performing song of the Hot 100's history. Your location is Venezuela? If that's correct I don't think you're the right person to say what feels like the biggest charting song in the US. In my country it feels bigger than all of those songs, especially Uptown Funk. But I'm not the right person to say what feels like the biggest song in the US either. I'm sure people from US consider songs like Shape of You, Uptown Funk and Old Town Road to be bigger. I mean Blinding Lights wasn't even the best selling song of the year, The Box was. But then again radio is a huge reason for what "feels" big and Blinding Lights is the biggest radio song of all time, so I don't know.

Uptown Funk went on to a near record run on the recurrent chart with a 106 week chart run
To date only one of 5 songs to exceed two years

New Billie song is beautiful omg
I don't really expect this to be a hit outside of the first week; given it's mostly in Spanish I don't see this getting support from the radio but this is really something special

Hopefully the Billie track gives ROSALÍA her third fourth* Hot 100 entry. But it's quite subdued and mostly in Spanish so... we'll see.
Forgot that "LA NOCHE DE ANOCHE" charted too.

I'll do you better. How about we stream "My Ex's Best Friend" instead? + "Streets", "Save Your Tears", "Good Days", willow", "HOLIDAY", "Diamonds", "Starting Over", Hole In The Bottle", "Damage", and "Monsters" 😉 "Here's how Take What You Want can still be a hit"

I think it's safe to assume the Billie/Rosalia song won't do anything on the Hot 100. It's so slow-paced and mostly in Spanish

I think it will do "something" but not higher than top 40 I'd say. It's a one-off for Euphoria anyway.

For my part, I agree that all three of the examples you listed "felt bigger" during their original chart runs than "Blinding Lights" has (especially UF, which has felt like easily the biggest hit of my lifetime to date), but that the end of the day: 1. That's just my opinion based on anecdotal experience. 2. The nebulous thing I'm describing when I say a song "feels" big, inescapable, ubiquitous, etc, is not exactly what the all-time charts are even claiming to measure. The cultural conversation around "Old Town Road" gave it a boost in sales and streams, but that conversation itself didn't translate directly to chart points. Neither does the fact that my stodgy professor knew all the words to "Uptown Funk," or that I heard "Shape of You" over the speakers in the most diverse possible range of bars and restaurants. Those things all made me go, "wow this song is fucking massive" for reasons the charts aren't designed to directly reflect.

What is it all these pop acts doing Latin hits now? Billie Eilish, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Little Mix and even rappers like Drake, Travis Scott and Nicki Minaj are all doing it. Is this a trend that we're gonna continue to see?

Streets, Good Days, and drivers license having these organic rises really just proves that the GP cares about quality over gimmicks. I’d say it proves both work for successful songs, since we saw that the gimmicks also worked.

Sabrina Carpenter is coming out with a song tonight in response to driver’s license. Yessss she's about to get... well probably not a Hot 100 entry but an ounce of attention, sure. Even the guy's song is flopping. They overestimated how much the "controversy" is selling, vs "drivers license" actually being... you know... a good song people wanna hear.

Is this a trend that we're gonna continue to see? I would think so. Ever since Bieber was featured on Despacito, that seems to have started the trend.

I wouldn't throw Billie with the rest since the ROSALÍA collab seems to have been born out of a friendship and a need to collaborate creatively (plus the song is hardly what you'd call hit-ready).
It's not the same as Justin or Abel jumping into already huge hits. Especially since Justin didn't even know what the lyrics said.

"BL" doesn't 'feel' as big to me as other songs mentioned, but based on stats its impact has held on longer. The Hot 100 in theory measures the most popular song in a given week, but that song could be #1 by a mile, or barely.

Especially Old Town Road, which has the longest-stay-at #1 record, the highest weekly streams record, and also maintained very high sales for its time, so it doesn't really get any bigger than that. For me, as someone who lives in the US as well, I do actually think Blinding Lights is on par with the likes of Old Town Road, Shape of You, Uptown Funk, etc. It's been inescapable, and definitely feels like one of the most culturally prominent pop songs of the past few years.

Lmao Biden really killed Spotify. I have no idea why it's taking this long to update I'm going to punch the "Where's Spotify update" on the Pulse bingo card.

I don't use the radio for what "feels" big. I'm meaning more pop culture, hearing about things in conversation, etc. The pandemic might be part of it to the degree that I'm not seeing how people react in clubs and such, though "BL" was #1 pre-pandemic and I didn't feel huge hype about it to the degree "Uptown Funk" and such had.

BL on a weekly basis doesn't feel omg-huge. Per kworb, its peak was 13.2 mil weekly Spotify streams, plus a few 10-point-something million weeks.
More of a super steady bigness.
