Speaking of iTunes, the state of it right now is so messy with so many throwbacks and artists I've never heard of before. Who the hell is GOT7, Masked Wolf and Rvshvd?

The former of the three has a large sales-focused fanbase, as many k-pop groups do. Rvshvdβs profile has been rising for a while, he went viral for a country rendition of Roddy Ricchβs βBallinβ and has been championed by the likes of Mickey Guyton. βAstronautβ is becoming an international hit, propelled by TikTok.

Well considering that specific song has playlisting on AM and #1 on TTH, it's really not doing that great. It's clearly being given that single treatment of playlisting. I mean, it's not a single. Not getting pushed as such. My guess is that Spotify chose to playlist it because she was the biggest artist on the platform in December and January. I was responding to the person that said her deluxe is flopping and should end the deluxe trend, which is clearly not the case, considering her album consumption is projected to go up by ~80% this week. The song is very short and too reminiscent of "motive" in my opinion, it's not like I think it's going to smash or anything. You dont get to be #1 on TTH just for being the biggest artist of the month. Her label had to prolly pay for the playlisting. And dropping a song with playlisting is USUALLY how singles work. Most singles don't start off with radio or a video. Hers just do bc shes pushed by her label for a strong start. She needs to drop test drive and make motive or POV the next single honestly. |

Spotify confirmed this several times. it would be completely illegal for them to publicly claim that and then work with record labels to place songs into playlists. playlisting works two ways: - a label/artist can submit a request (that costs $0) to be considered for one of Spotify's curated playlists. - Spotify can decide to put a song on/take it off a playlist as they wish. this is what happened with "TG4M" from Zara Larsson's debut album, despite the label requesting "So Good" to be playlisted upon album release. being the biggest artist on the platform means Spotify will make more money by promoting your music. it's that simple. |

Since it was tweeted on Friday, it is impossible to be Spotify (since number aren't out till next day). So it is either Apple Music or iTunes.
But since it is specifically mentioned "deluxe version of a pop album" it is Apple Music 100%. Since hip-hop doesn't do that well on iTunes, and if you include hip-hop for AM then this wouldn't be a record (hence pop only).
But anyways Deluxe albums don't do well at all generally. Even the entire album deluxe editions fail to do numbers (still no deluxe edition has managed to get 50% of the SPS that the original got in the first week. You can add Uzi, DaBaby, Nav etc.) In a lot of cases Album Deluxes fail to do 1/3rd of the opening week.
tl;dr: Deluxe Albums are pointless. One week boost and then poof (gone) -_-

So true! But it's also their first single since they parted ways with the label that long story short didn't treat them well. GOT7 members are supposed to focus on their solo careers this year but now they released this song as a surprise for fans, so I think that's why the interest and demand for the track is so big. |
