Post Malone has reached the Kid Rock phase of his career. His days of being a reliable hitmaker and streaming phenomenon are over. Now he'll have to fight it out with MGK & other punk/rock wannabes and B-listers for concert and radio spots. you just won't give up won't you

The second he drops the lead single for his next album he'll be right back in the thick of things. Although I do find it weird how his features never seem to break through considering how massive he his. Same, especially when he did such a great job in "Jackie Chan" and "Wolves" (at least the former was a smash in the UK and Canada). I call it the reverse-Drake effect. π

What I personally disliked was the fact Take What You Want got caught in between years when, it was the best song off of Hollywood's Bleeding and Candy Paint didn't become a big hit since it had to compete with rockstar and I Fall Apart, it honestly deserved the success that rockstar got.

I used to really hate Post Malone. Anything about him seems so...awful for me. Didn't helped that Congratulations blocked Say You Won't Let Go and Issues from Top 10 in 2017 [what happened to you, past me...].
But then he released Rockstar. It was without a doubt, one of the songs I listened to the most. And suddenly I become a fan.

Also, is OWBWY gonna be sent to radio? Doubtful, especially considering the original is one of the most enduring radio hits of all time. It was in heavy rotation on my hometown's local station well into the 2000s, which is saying something considering I was born a few years after it was at its peak chart performance.

If the original was a big radio hit, years ago, it is not unheard of for the cover to be a radio hit too

If the original was a big radio hit, years ago, it is not unheard of for the cover to be a radio hit too Yes, I'm aware that Put Your Records On exists. However, in that case, unless they were near AC or Hot AC radio in 2006, most Americans don't remember the original song because it faded from constant radio rotation fairly quickly. So while it sucks that the mediocre cover is charting much higher as of now, I don't blame those who werenβt aware of the original's existence before the cover surfaced. The original Only Wanna Be With You has had a lot more staying power in that regard.

They are, only because the radio keeps clinging onto it. Look at spotify or apple music and you wonβt see any JB until the bottom quarter of the top 100. Honestly i think if he took some time off that would help him way more than just dropping loose singles, and then slap dashing it onto an album I never really understand why some people try to push this narrative. JB is still doing very well, Holy and Lonely are both already approaching 350+ million Spotify Streams, had great callouts on the radio and really strong sales (especially Holy). Intentions was in the Top 10 for like 20 weeks. I see what you mean in that Holy/Lonely were front loaded on streaming, but saying they aren't hits is like saying songs like Heartless, Therefore I Am, or LWYMMD (and really anything Taylor has released since the Reputation era) weren't hits. Plus, Bieber has been making music since 2009, so I don't think it's shocking that he's not as close to as big as he was during the Purpose run. Almost no artists ever reach that level of success, it's just not sustainable for that long. Yeah lol, I mean Holy went top 10 for 14 weeks, Intentions for 20 weeks. He was in the top ten of the hot 100 for like 38+ weeks in 2020. He had 10,000 hours too which was huge and I don't care was an absolute smash. Now we have Holy, Lonely and Anyone which are all hits but not smashes. Put it this way, Taylor doesn't even come close at the moment to Bieber with singles, but she sells albums like crazy so she can get away with not smashing like before. The fact that Bieber can release so many songs continuously and be so overexposed, yet all of them do at minimum moderately well is a good sign. If he takes a year break he could smash easily with the right song. Who knows, there may be a song on the album that completely takes off.

I didnβt realize βHolidayβ already left the Hot 100 multiple weeks ago....
Whatever Lil Nasβs label is doing with him is easily the most bizarre rollout/development for an artist ever. Holiday is the only song he has released since Summer 2019, and I remember people saying he was teasing that new single in a SuperBowl commercial but it seems that is going nowhere?
Heβs been very popular and viral on social media so I donβt even get why theyβre so hesitant of letting him release anything to the point of where heβs just losing relevance. He is also basically a meme/βof its timeβ artist so he really is the definition of you need to strike while theyβre still hot.

"Call Me By Your Name" has a bit of hype attached to it and will probably have a decent debut, but his hype is diminishing fast. I feel like nobody is really checking for Nas X the same way with his other peers from that era like Billie and Lizzo. He also leans too much into the "4-hit wonder" thing sometimes, just release some fucking music man. I don't care about your other songs, lets move forward!

Billie Iβm not too concerned about, I think she has a sustainable fanbase that will keep her a household name, and despite only 1 week in the top 10, Therefore I Am has had some decent staying power. Letβs see what happens with the subsequent singles for her next album. I agree with you on LNX and Lizzo, though. LNX seems keen on trying to sell himself as a novelty act, which is really dangerous for his longevity. I like a lot of what heβs put out, but he may be in some real trouble if he leans on that adage too much on his upcoming debut album. Lizzo might be even worse off, as her only two hits were not on the standard edition of her debut album, and every single beyond those two severely underperformed. If the next single/album doesnβt do well, she just might be done.

I think Lizzo will be fine in the end, even if her next record isn't as commercially successful as Truth Hurts/Good As Hell she'll still have a fanbase. Lizzo was bubbling under the mainstream for years and released several albums before even hitting it big, she had a lot of underground buzz and that'll remain after she's done having hits. Although she hasn't released anything new yet, so we won't know until then.

Neither LNX nor Lizzo does really stand out as a hitmaker to me. They can still build a solid career, but top ten hits might be tough in the future.

I have no idea if it was just a matter of promotional cycles not lining up or what, but that song shouldβve been absolutely huge on the charts and yet it just wasnβt.

Up seems to be going (more) viral on TikTok... seeing lots of challenges including a dance that popular creators are doing. Wouldn't be surprised if it goes #1 down the road.

I have no idea if it was just a matter of promotional cycles not lining up or what, but that song shouldβve been absolutely huge on the charts and yet it just wasnβt. Juice came before she blew up. Like Boys, Tempo, and Water Me, it lingered on throughout the runs of the two mega hits slowly gaining great numbers. Peaks aren't everything. Juice and the other three songs I mentioned are definitely well known and hits within their own rights at this point. Juice was also well on its way to becoming her big mainstream break through, but that one two punch of going viral on TikTok the same week it was used in a wildly popular Netflix film, Truth Hurts blew past it and squashed Juice's chances. Oddly enough, fellow 2020 breakthrough artist Billie Eilish saw the same thing happen with when the party's over/bad guy. Cuz I Love You truly is her only misstep between late 2019-now. And I'm pretty sure everyone saw that coming the second it was announced as a single. (Because my lord is that vocal performance polarizing and non-radio friendly.) What an odd single choice.

Since it looks like Blinding Lights finally peaked in every metric, when do you think it's gonna leave the top 10 and why do you think it's when it COVID ends?
