yeah. She threw βCuz I Love Youβ out there and it (unsurprisingly) died quickly. That was it, idk where the βmultiple flopsβ narrative is coming from Juice was also a single from that album, and despite it being one of her best-known songs, it peaked at #82. I have no idea if it was just a matter of promotional cycles not lining up or what, but that song shouldβve been absolutely huge on the charts and yet it just wasnβt. In the context of the all-population Hot 100, Juice doesnβt look like a big hit. But it was pretty well known in specific demographics and certain audiences, and I think thatβs important. One thing to keep in mind about the Hot 100 and the album chart is that it takes into account everyone across all metrics (as best it can, for better or worse). Itβs essentially the top of the ladder/canβt get any better (in theory) unless youβre going for top of the world. Most musicians and new artists might have realistic goals and targets that are more specific and for someone like Lizzo, she wasnβt known in a general sense yet but she was likely a pretty big deal in some circles and within those circles, Juice could have been huge. I think of it like Kyle Minogue. Sheβs recognizable to many of us. Iβm betting to a general audience sheβs not that well known unless they lived through 2003 and still remember her from that. In the gay world, sheβs a legend.

Bingo. βJuiceβ sputtered and died at pop radio several weeks into its run due to the success of βTruth Hurtsβ, later re-entering the Hot 100 (without airplay either) at #82. βGood As Hellβ then began to take off (not to mention βBoysβ going viral and bubbling under, too). There just wasnβt enough room for βJuiceβ. By the time it couldβve been a single, it was wayyyy past its moment.

Since it looks like Blinding Lights finally peaked in every metric, when do you think it's gonna leave the top 10 and why do you think it's when it COVID ends? Funny you think it will ever leave the Top 10 To be fair, I did say when COVID ended.

In the gay world, sheβs a legend. So true. Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend" and "Dancing On My Own" are arguably much more well-known now than her actual top ten hits from the late 90s but they did nothing on the Hot 100. Garth Brooks' "Friends In Low Places" is one of the biggest songs of the 90s but it wasn't a Hot 100 hit. Total streaming numbers, and airplay and digital sales for older songs, often tell the story just as well (if not better than) the Hot 100.

Wait why is Beautiful Mistakes with Megan and Maroon 5 being released on a Wednesday? maybe theyβre going for an early debut situation like βlose you to love meβ & βheartlessβ It helps that Maroon 5 tends to be more reliant on radio traction these days, and since the radio tracking week is Monday-Sunday, it's easier for them to get on the charts early and get the attention they want than if they decided to wait until this Friday's stacked release schedule that includes Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars/Silk Sonic. They did something similar with the remix of Girls Like You.

Also Maroon 5 doesn't usually have a huge ass debut, they build their airplay numbers over a few weeks, so there's no incentive to go all out on the first week.

Donβt think anyone has mentioned this yet, but DJ Snake and Selena Gomez are releasing a track together called βSelfish Loveβ on Thursday. I doubt it will debut early (EDM doesnβt quite have the pull it had in the mid-2010s), but I can see it impacting the same week as the new Bieber and Silk Sonic tracks.

If the original was a big radio hit, years ago, it is not unheard of for the cover to be a radio hit too Yes, I'm aware that Put Your Records On exists. However, in that case, unless they were near AC or Hot AC radio in 2006, most Americans don't remember the original song because it faded from constant radio rotation fairly quickly. So while it sucks that the mediocre cover is charting much higher as of now, I don't blame those who werenβt aware of the original's existence before the cover surfaced. The original Only Wanna Be With You has had a lot more staying power in that regard. I wasn't really listening to AC radio in 06 but follow pop culture I guess and remember the original very well. I was never huge on it though. I may be mistaken but I feel like the song was everywhere? lol. Did it win Grammy's?? Maybe it got Grammy attention that year? I think it was sang on a decent amount of talent contests through out the years so maybe that kept it in my memory. When I looked at it's stats I don't know how I remember it so much??

In chart related news, Ryn Weaverβs βPierreβ is looking to debut at #49 on the UK Singles Chart. the past seven years of stanning someone who fell off the face of the earth has been worth it
I hope it can crossover here. If βArcadeβ can do it, why not βPierreβ

The original PYRO was not as big on radio, but it was everywhere on music TV channels, especially VH1 in 2006. Let's not forget, though, Ritt's version of PYRO flopped in its initial pre-Christmas 2020 run.

When was the last time a cover of a song made top 10 on Mainstream radio, or Overall radio?
I don't remember any since DHT's "Listen to Your Heart" in 2005, but there has to probably be one or two after. It reached #1 on Mainstream/Pop radio, but actually peaked #11 on Overall.

Her βCuz I Love Youβ album wasnβt really a hit, despite how successful her old songs became. And now she has simply waited too long, I can see new music she releases being dead on arrival. But yes, her songs are everywhere in commercials, tv shows, etc. She is still making a lot of money from all these license deals. Sheβs basically like a new Sia. No big fanbase, but sheβs been a Walmart commercial staple for many years despite not having a hit single since like 2016.
