Yep, rushing that albumโs release was one of the worst things they couldโve possibly done, and it shows in the final product. Iโd still like to keep an open mind and wait until their next album comes out to determine whether Origins is truly a Trainwreckord, but given Iโve heard more people talk about how bad their new B-side single Cutthroat is than the quality of the track theyโre actually pushing, that could be the case after all. That reminds me of Hootie And The Blowfish's album Fairweather Johnson, which Todd covered on Trainwreckords a while back. That album was released shortly after the end of Cracked Rear View's album cycle, was super rushed and ended up flopping and tanking the band's mainstream career. I don't know if people would have cared even if they had waited, though. Alanis had several years between JLP and SFIJ and still had a huge drop and then kept declining. It's just hard to follow a huge album.

Hope we can see a boost for "Blinding Lights" tonight as protest for its snub. I know some XO fans are planning streaming parties on Twitter, but it's unlikely that it will be enough without more active mainstream support.
Guess we'll have to wait and see, but it would be amazing if it happened.

What will hurt Blinding Lights is that it won't win a Grammy award or get a performance. Any boost BL gets as a protest will be minimal compared to boost other songs will get from either a performance or winning a Grammy award. This could leave BL vulnerable to falling out of the Top 10 on the 3/27 chart. Even if that happens, BL should be back in the Top 10 of the 4/3 chart, and that would extend BL's streak to 15 consecutive months in the Top 10.

Blinding Lights probably got the biggest boost as a result of the Grammy nominations than any song that did get any. Paired with the Super Bowl, it has continued to dominate. I could see it getting another decent boost after tonight as a continuation of that conversation. As big as others could potentially get? Maybe not, but I wouldnโt count it out yet.

I could see Blinding Lights getting a good sales boost in protest kinda like it did after the nominees were announced but honestly I canโt see it competing with the songs that are gonna get boosts from actually being performed at the show, like Up and Leave The Door Open (and maybe Streets? hopefully please??). As much attention as his snubs get I think most people in the GP who actually watch the Grammys are gonna be more focused on the stuff that was nominated and performed and everything

I think the Grammys will have less viewership than previous years, based on recent award shows. So overall boost will be smaller than usual for everyone, but I could be completely wrong. In the meantime, going to stream some Abel.

I don't remember seeing any significant boosts last year, but this year Up and LTDO have some potential.

In the meantime, going to stream some Abel. I disagree. I think the Grammys will have more viewership this year. It immediately follows the March Madness selection show on CBS, and that would be an opportunity to attract views from college basketball fans who don't normally do not watch the Grammys. Plus, there will be no in-person attendance, so those who would normally attend in-person could watch on TV this year and with restrictions easing up in LA county, an opportunity for watch parties in bars near by (see NBA all-star game last week).

^^Billie's songs benefited the most, with Everything I Wanted rising 23-10 (its offiicial video came out that week) and Bad Guy 41-17.

Not gonna happen. Award shows have been way down during the pandemic regardless of lockdown status or lead-in program. The GRAMMYs, which were already in rapid decline, will be no different.

Damn, Cardi really can get that #1 on Spotify after Grammys. To be completely honest I've never thought Up would be this stable on streaming.

Up might hit #1 on US spotify for the first time when we get the monday numbers on tuesday reflecting the grammy boost. A month and a half after release, wow! And at this rate, it'll probably spend a couple weeks at the top as there arent any evident threats

I feel like Grammys impact BB200 albums more than the Hot 100 these days. The golden days of Grammy-winning or Grammy-performed songs rushing into the Top 10 are over. (Like the 2012 example I brought up a couple months back.)

Is this for 3/20 or 3/27? If this is for the 3/20 chart, then Dynamite will easily do 40k (possibly even 50k) sales with the discount + Grammys performance (and mass buying after the Grammys).

Grammy producers are expecting a viewership drop of 30 to 60% so...
Online impressions for any performance that goes viral will be more important.

I think award shows in general have collapsed in viewership because social media definitely made it more convenient. Who wants to bother sitting through 3 long hours when you can just go on Twitter and hear about the winners and rewatch performance highlights? I canโt be bothered.
Also these award shows have become predictably boring. People can only tolerate so much of the Beyonce, BTS, Taylor Swift, etc propaganda and ass kissing that these award shows do everytime they show up simply because theyโre the biggest names.

Award shows have been consistently losing viewership for years but the pandemic might be the nail in the coffin, most people don't want to sit and watch rich people get awards and recognition during a time where they have consistently said fuck it to the rules and most of the country is in financial ruin.

And pandemic era awards shows are... not good. The VMAs literally triggered my anxiety when I realized this is probably what we were going to get for another year+ in terms of live performances. People talking over Zoom is also not entertaining imo.
It's just not the same without the audience and the reaction shots. Hopefully next year will be another story.

VMA's was a mess, felt so dystopian.
