I'm a fan of Jacob Collier (multi-talented musician; "Good Days" background vocalist), and he posted something on Twitter a couple weeks back saying he is in support of NFTs in concept for creators, but wants to wait until the technology is more ecologically sustainable before he can start using them. I get the feeling that's the take many in the music industry are holding for now, even if I'm hoping it's just a weird passing fad that dies relatively soon.

Supposedly it helps with preventing songs from being leaked? IDK really know that much about the topic but yeah there's weird vibes all over it.

200m streams/month for 30-50k. Kinda validates Iggy's claim that payola in streaming is way worse (since no policing) than in radio. Many industry plants & washed up acts getting ridiculous streams reflect that

Please go check Andrew Thomas Haung’s Instagram. He was contacted by Nas’ label last year, then they hired the same choreographer from Cellophane’s video. I don’t think it’s just an “influence” or an “homage”

I think these comments on popheads sum it up pretty nicely. Basically, it's a sort of digital auction for art, where the highest bidder gets the original file of a song.





Hope it helps. So the backlash is both on the fact it's very damaging to the environment, and also because it's a pretty greedy and frankly useless move, especially for a megarich A-lister like The Weeknd.

Non fungible token. It's proof of ownership of something digital (intangible) powered by blockchain, which is the same technology that makes bitcoin not reproducible. Songs from 1976 are even closer to songs from 1977 than they are to songs from '75 and '74, and songs from '77 are even closer to '76 than they are to '78-'83, I guess '84 could also use a higher multiplier.
