Geez with all the fuss in here about βLevitatingβ youβd think itβs breaking Old Town Roadβs record or something. Itβs just another run of the mil mid-grade hit that fans are overblowing. Itβs not that big considering there are 3 other songs currently charting in the top 10 that have been there longer. LMAO all of this for what

Anyways stream run of the mild mid-grade hit "Levitating" by Dua Lipa with DaBaby so it breaks "Old Town Road's" record.

It's a big-ish deal because radio (main component that helped her previous three top 15 singles) has dropped it and the label has moved on to another single and it's still hitting a new peak position on streaming. And it's Pulse; we love our pop ladies. You have been on this forum for over a year, it can't be surprising lol. Sure, I get that. But notice how the same enthusiasm isnβt given to βSave Your Tearsβ which has also been in the top for months, peaked higher, and is a song that did it without a remix (not to mention he has another song in the top 10 too).Itβs just funny to see posters do cartwheels over a one-sided perspective while ignoring everything else that could be highlighted in the same light.

Levitating reminds me of the Summer of 2020 which feels like eons ago, so it's weird seeing it as high as #6 on Spotify

Spring Break with the warmer weather and Vaccine optimism is definitely fueling Levitating's comeback

I watched it and I've read articles and analyzes about it. I understand what's going on. Many people will tell you the same. There are people in this fandom who bought shares in the company and they studied what this means now. It doesn't change anything for BTS. The end of story. Also you all can finally breathe. The work is done. You will probably not see Dynamite again on charts. Wasn't "Old Town Road" #1 for 20 weeks?

To me, the digital sales record lost merit when sales quickly declined after Uptown Funk. UF spent 13 weeks at #1 on the digital sales chart in 2015, and has over 8 million digital sales. Closer has less than a third of UFβs digital sales total, and tied UF with 13 weeks at #1 on the digital sales chart in 2016. Despacito, which broke the record in 2017, has roughly 3 million digital sales. Old Town Road has roughly 2 million digital sales, and Dynamite roughly 1.5 million digital sales. I just cannot view the digital sales runs of Closer, Despacito, OTR, or Dynamite with the same merit as UF. A lot of it has to do with good timing too. But your take can be the same for a #1 song on the Hot 100 really.

I understand his point but "Uptown Funk" is such a weird cut-off point. It wasn't even the biggest seller ever as far as I recall ("I Gotta Feeling" I think?). I remember CSTF! by JT doing particularly well there and it was one of the last few songs to break some big milestones. Anyways it got me to google Digital Sales and the Wikipedia article is riddled with BTS mentions "Levitating" haters work hard but BTS stans work even harder.

Old Town Road was #1 for 20 weeks on the Streaming Songs chart.
Uptown Funk's 13 weeks at #1 on the Digital Sales chart were impressive, but if you want to use the "sales were declining" excuse for Closer and Despacito, you have to use this for UF too since digital sales peaked in 2012.
Low also had 13 weeks at #1 with a much higher peak in downloads than UF (467K vs. 400K) and it was the only song with 13 weeks at #1 for seven years (2008-2015).
I Gotta Feeling is #1 of all-time in digital sales with more than 9 million, but it wasn't a dominant #1 (10 weeks at #1 with a 249K peak).

I will never forgive Lil Nas X for not achieving that 20th week in #1
edit:. And I included Billie in that, it was a terrible deal that #1 for her, a record of more weeks in #2 would be much more interesting.

I will never forgive Lil Nas X for not achieving that 20th week in #1 Yet if non-UGC views didnβt count (they ended up removing them just a few months later) the song wouldnβt have even broke One Sweet Day/Despacitoβs record. So eh.

So eh. About the UGC, is it still possible to beat the OTR record for the biggest streaming week without it??

About the UGC, is it still possible to beat the OTR record for the biggest streaming week without it?? Nothing is impossible, but it probably won't happen for awhile. A song would have to basically pull Driver's License/God's Plan numbers on audio streaming, while also pulling huge numbers on video streaming that even outdo WAP/CMBYN.

BTS is one thing but nothing can top the most dominant song on the sales chart in history
28 weeks at #1 in 2007 and 2008
'What Time Is It' from High School Musical 2
BTS still has a ways to go LOL

A song would have to basically pull Driver's License/God's Plan numbers on audio streaming, while also pulling WAP/Montero numbers on video streaming. So what we need is a collab from Olivia, Drake, Cardi and Lil Nas X lol
