This is just brutal, man! I see a big handful of #1 contenders amongst his 90s output, which is already hard enough to rank on my end! Despite this, I should be able to submit some time tomorrow.

Tracy Lawrence Singles Rankdown: Results Time!
Final Participant List: (13)
1. tim 2. Kanenrá:ke 3. castleoblivion26 4. kw9461 5. gardyfan 6. bboat11 7. ClevelandRox 8. George Strait Junkie 9. someguy 10. .indulgecountry 11. sabre14 12. 🌺CountryLineDancer 13. Cody Wants Out... Overall I'd say we got a pretty good turnout for an artist that hasn't been in the limelight since most of us were children!!! Tracy Byrd got 11, Joe Diffie got 12, and Mark Chesnutt got 14, so we're kinda right in line with a lot of his '90s male contemporaries! Let's go ahead and make some predictions for how this is gonna go!!!
Predictions to get us started: 1. What is going to win?
2. What else is going to be in the top 5?
3. What is going to be last place?
4. What else is going to be in the bottom 5?
5. What will be most/least polarizing?
6. Did you make any discoveries in this list? If so, what were your favorites?
7. "Used To The Pain" is his only song to have won a Rankdown before. How will it do here?
8. Any other thoughts/predictions?

1. What is going to win? I think that "Time Marches On" is the one to beat
2. What else is going to be in the top 5? "Sticks and Stones" and "Paint Me a Birmingham" for sure with the remaining two spots being competitive between "I See It Now", "Alibis", "Texas Tornado", and "If the World Had a Front Porch".
3. What is going to be last place? I'd be shocked if it was anything other than "Pills"
4. What else is going to be in the bottom 5? "All Wrapped Up in Christmas" seems like a given as do "Made in America" and "Saturday In the South". I think there could be a handful of other likely candidates to land in the bottom 5 including "You Can't Hide Redneck" and any one of the songs from the Headlights, Taillights and Radios album.
5. What will be most/least polarizing? Most: hmm...maybe something like "Today's Lonely Fool" or "If I Don't Make It Back" / Least: "Time Marches On" or "Pills"
6. Did you make any discoveries in this list? If so, what were your favorites? I admittedly hadn't really followed Tracy's output much after 2007's For the Love, so everything thereafter was more or less new to me. Of those songs, I'd have to say "Lie" was my favorite discovery.
7. "Used To The Pain" is his only song to have won a Rankdown before. How will it do here? You had to bring that back up didn't you?! All I'll say is that "If I Don't Make It Back" better come out ahead this time.
8. Any other thoughts/predictions? I'm excited to see how most of his '90s material plays out especially considering we haven't ever really gotten to rank anything from 1995 or 1996 (those year-end rankdowns are on the horizon though!).

1. What is going to win?Taking a wild guess with "If The World Had a Front Porch". 2. What else is going to be in the top 5?"Time Marches On", "Sticks and Stones", "Paint Me a Birmingham", and "Alibis"? 3. What is going to be last place?Another wild guess with "Saturday in the South". 4. What else is going to be in the bottom 5?"Made in America", "Pills", "Stairway to Heaven Highway to Hell", and "Footprints on the Moon" 5. What will be most/least polarizing? Most polarizing: "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" maybe? Least polarizing: "Time Marches On" 6. Did you make any discoveries in this list? If so, what were your favorites?Quite a few, actually. "Lie", "While You Sleep" and "Life Don't Have to Be So Hard" were pretty neat imo and I think "The Coast is Clear" is also pretty decent after giving it more listens. 7. "Used To The Pain" is his only song to have won a Rankdown before. How will it do here? It'll barely make the top 20, I think. 8. Any other thoughts/predictions?Although there were some clunkers, this was pretty tough!

I'm sorry for the delay! I wanted to get Reba's albums out of the way before I officially started this one. But I finished with her yesterday, so it's finally time to dive into some Tracy Lawrence results!!!!!

It will come as absolutely no surprise to anybody who has even the slightest bit of familiarity with how Pulse Rankdowns typically go that our Christmas song is finishing in last place. It was a bottom 2 contender for the entire Rankdown. That being said, this was not most of our least favorite song! It only got two last place ranks from gardyfan and George Strait Junkie, and while it did get a whole lot of bottom 5 ranks on top of it, it also got a string of ranks in the 30s. Personally I found this one to be pretty catchy and fun. It's definitely one I will be revisiting in a few months when the holidays start to get closer!

I feel like I should hate "Saturday In The South", because thematically and sonically it is very much a bland mainstream country song, that pretty much just exists to check off as many of the bro country tropes as it possibly could..... And yet I can't bring myself to hate it!!! The uptempo rocking energy of this one is infectious!!! Every time it transitions into the chorus I can't help but crank it up! I don't even know what he's saying half the time, but it sure makes me want to move 😂 This received 5 last place ranks, which is more than any other song of the rankdown. It also sees our first top 15 loss, courtesy of ClevelandRox.

"All Wrapped Up In Christmas" is a catchy song that doesn't deserve the last spot. I know it was inevitable as we are listening to this in June, but I don't love this trend of X'mas song automatically hitting the bottom place, especially when it is not a bad song.

"You Can't Hide Redneck" is another one that I can understand people hating, but I couldn't bring myself to do so!!! The lyrics are not nearly as stupid as the song title leads you to believe that they might be, and the melody is pretty great! The imagery of a bunch of people getting together at a class reunion was funny and interesting to me, and also very fitting for the current timing of my life, as I am facing the prospect of my 10-year high school reunion coming this summer!! This was a much more consistent bottom 2 contender than "Saturday In The South" was, but the three consecutive last place ranks for "Saturday" that came right at the end from sabre14 , 🌺CountryLineDancer , and Cody Wants Out... were enough to barely squeeze "Redneck" up ahead right at the end!

I know that American Pride songs are pretty much always hated on Pulse, as they are seen as passé at best, and downright ignorant and offensive at worst, especially in light of how toxic our political climate became post-2016. I did like this one a fair amount though (my #43 rank is just indicative of how strong I think this list is!). The thing I liked most about this one is that it celebrates America without getting political! It is not angry about anything, there is no lamenting for how great America used to be, and there is no blatantly whitewashing all of America's flaws just to claim that it is great. It focuses mostly on the resilience of the American spirit, and does so in a way that promotes the universal experiences that make us all human. There are a LOT of things that are great about America, and I have no problem celebrating those things when it is done the way it was done here! Lines like the one about how this country has "roots that run deep from all fifty states" make me proud to be an American WAY more effectively than lines about how our culture is under attack by modern ideals, lmao. Neal McCoy and Travis Tritt should take notes...... To me, the biggest flaw with this song is that Tracy's production budget has left a lot to be desired for much of the past decade, lmao.

Contrary to tim's prediction that this would be our obvious contender for last place, it nearly escaped the bottom 5, mostly thanks to ClevelandRox and George Strait Junkie giving it a bit of momentum in the middle of the submission process. Personally I found this one to be like a whimsical tongue-in-cheek sort of song, sort of like what Brad Paisley has always been so good at, so the personality didn't rub me the wrong way. However, I could definitely see where people might hate this one for its tone (especially lines about how daddy's belt used to be the cure for ADHD, lmao). But overall this song has a very true sentiment in the fact that modern society relies on medicine WAY too much. Like, people really do sit on their butts and rely on pills to keep them alive when they could just get up and go for a walk It's a hard truth, but he tells no lies...

The only surprise in the bottom 5 is that “Pills” didn’t leave in last place! I kinda chuckled the first time I heard it as there is certainly a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor to it. That said, this just isn’t something I’d ever want to revisit again and when put up against everything else it just had nowhere else to go on my list except in last place. Other than that, I had predicted that each one of these songs would be bottom 5 contenders so there wasn’t much of a surprise there. I have to agree with bboat11 ’s sentiments regarding “Saturday in the South” because I too just couldn’t bring myself to hate it even as much as I wanted to going into it! I had a hunch though that there would be a handful of participants who would just outright dislike this, so it garnering five rankings in last place isn’t a shocker. I'm excited to see how this rankdown plays out!

"Pills" is a fairly clever song, it just comes off as too novelty and doesn't really hold up well on multiple listens.
Nothing terribly surprising out yet. The first verse of "You Can't Hide Redneck" is really good and always makes me smile. It's still mostly just a trope song, but at least it's a good one.

We kick off the top 40 with "I'll Never Pass This Way Again", which was a single from some kind of Civil War collaboration album. Despite coming on the heels of his hot streak of hits in the '90s, this was his first single to not chart at all. (Although I have no clue what the promotion looked like. It may have just been thrown out there and not promoted at all).
This was my last place just because I had no idea where else to rank it. I did like it quite a bit, but it just didn't compare to any of his regular singles to me. It's like when everyone tanked "God Bless America" in LeAnn Rimes' Rankdown, lmao. Tracy sounds great, and it's a pleasant listen, but I'd rather hear almost any of his actual regular singles on the radio.

"Unforgiven" is the first top 40 hit to leave this rankdown, as it peaked at #35 in 2001.
I love this one a lot, but I can see why this got low ranks. Hearing this rich white guy sing about how how Thomas Jefferson had slaves but it wasn't really a big deal because he is remembered for doing so much good for our country sounds out of touch af in our 2021 social climate!! The way he's just like "He had slaves, but he's forgiven" makes for an awkward start to this song.
But at the same time, his point is valid. Thomas Jefferson HAS largely been forgiven in the eyes of history for owning slaves. And the point isn't that owning slaves is okay. The point is that if somebody could be forgiven for doing something so heinous as owning other people, what could our narrator have possibly done that would warrant him not being forgiven by his lover?
I also find the chorus melody to be really strong, and I love the "I don't know just what I've done to be one of the unforgiven" hook! I was glad to see this at least escape the bottom 5, but was hoping for a bit better....

"Stop Drop And Roll" is the lead single from his Headlights, Taillights and Radios album, which yielded four singles despite none of them charting. I feel like this is a pretty clever song! The double entendre in the hook is silly, but tbh they get a lot more mileage from the fire safety puns than what I would have expected was possible. But it is leaving in the right place. It feels a bit novelty-ish and doesn't hold up super well to repeat listens. This one bounced around between #38 and #39 for like the entire submission process.

"Lie" is the only good song from this album. The other 2 songs can leave asap, too.

Tracy's current single from his brand new album bows out next! The Hindsight 2020 series is going to be a trilogy of albums that come out this year honoring the fact that Tracy is hitting 30 years in the business. They will feature a mix of new material and re-recorded hits. The first of three albums came out a couple months ago, featuring "Stairway To Heaven Highway To Hell". Volume 2 is set to come out in a couple months as well!
"Stairway To Heaven Highway To Hell" is pretty good, and it is nice to hear Tracy back at it with new material, but this one has very little comparison power when stacked alongside his all-time classics imo.
