"What A Memory" is a touching song about the love between a mother and her son, so it is bound to strike a few of the right chords for some of us. You'd think because of that a song such as this one would connect with me, but it just doesn't for whatever reason. Lyrically it's great, but other than that I find it be rather forgettable and just too long as it clocks in at four and a half minutes.

The thing that stands out most to me about "Lonely" is Tracy's vocal! He sounds soooooo different on this song for some reason. He's like a completely different person! I like it though!
This is his first top 20 hit to leave us, so the losses are definitely starting to get bigger! I think this one is really good, and is yet another song that I wasn't familiar with before this rankdown that has continued to grow on me every time I have listened to it.

Maybe "Lie" or "Til I Was a Daddy Too"?

The loss of "Somebody Paints The Wall" is a pretty major turning point in this rankdown! Not only is it our first #1 loss (RIP gardyfan ), it is also Tracy's first top 10 hit to leave, and it is also the first big hit from the '90s to be eliminated! Which means from this point forward, his huge '90s hits are officially within the grasp of the chopping block ![](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/popcorn.gif) This song is really good to me, so don't take my #39 the wrong way! I do find it to be one of his more boring hits overall, but I would still never skip it. I just have really high opinions of his whole catalog! This one has some great lyrical moments, like "today my ship came in, but I was waiting for a train".

Also 🌺CountryLineDancer I feel like you've been one of the highest rankers of nearly every song for this entire rankdown so far ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif)

Okay how terrible is that album cover for The Coast Is Clear 😂 Tracy's got some doozies, but that's gotta be the worst of them all!

It was a treat to revisit "Somebody Paints The Wall" because once I played it an old memory of hearing it on the radio as a young boy was rekindled lol. I think because of that, my ranking for it is partially due in part to a sense of nostalgia. That said, this is a pretty solid top 25 so I'm not sure what I would switch it out for. "The Coast Is Clear" was robbed 😢 Yea, it kinda was but that is largely in part to it only being a minor hit (ironically it exited at the same position it peaked on the charts lol). Tracy had quite a bit of momentum heading into this album era and had already come off of two top 5 hits from it, but as I mentioned above his personal life got in the way of this era and it just so happened that this song was released right at about the time the domestic charges came to light. Country radio and the industry in general more or less seemed to distance themselves from him at that point. If it were not for that, I think this easily could've been a top 10 hit for him.

Any predictions for which 5 songs are going to miss the top 20?? ![](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/popcorn.gif) I'm feeling confident about a few of these on my list below, but there are a couple I could see making it in. Specifically, I think "Lie" has a shot as I'm sure it picked up some fans along the way, but in turn that same unfamiliarity could hinder its chances of making it into the top 20. I also think that "How a Cowgirl Says Goodbye" could be a contender to exit as well. Anyways, here are my guesses: If You Loved Me Lie My Second Home Runnin’ Behind Til I Was A Daddy Too And given how "Renegades, Rebels, and Rogues" somehow seemingly left dead last in the 1994 country rankdown, I should probably be including that one. Despite that, I think that song had much more of an impact on his early 90s career than the five above plus I just also happen to enjoy the song, so I'm hoping it at least makes it into the top 20 (although it'll be just barely I'm sure).

Some catching up is in order here!
45. All Wrapped Up In Christmas (524) It's a good sounding Christmas song, but ultimately still just a Christmas song.
43. You Can't Hide Redneck (499) Ok it's not amazing but it's fun and I think ever so slightly smarter than you'd initially think!
41. Pills (486) This had so much more potential but I find the production on here very weak, the whole album really had that problem for me.
39. Unforgiven (452) I get the angle they were going for but just no, Thomas Jefferson is not forgiven…
38. Stop Drop And Roll (440) Honestly find the song cute.
36. Sawdust On Her Halo (430) I love how country sounding it is but I didn't understand it being chosen as a single. Had this come out during his hit run in the 90's I think it'd have been huge though!
34. Footprints On The Moon (406) I love this silly little song, totally get the hate though haha
33. While You Sleep (397) I like the concept of the song but it's so so forgettable for me.
32. Up To Him (378) I was so surprised how much I loved this album given I am not religious even slightly. I loved the production on the album and there's some other great songs. "The Book You Never Read" is my favorite.
30. It's All How You Look At It (368) The melody here does a lot of heavy lifting but I do think this could've been a hit had he had a little more momentum.
27. Somebody Paints The Wall (319) Never ever would've thought this would be somebody's #1!! I'm a fan of it but it's never been one I think of to pick when I want to hear Tracy.
As for what misses the top 20...
"How A Cowgirl Says Goodbye" "Renegades, Rebels and Rogues" "Better Man, Better Off" "Lie" "If You Loved Me"
Very hard to predict as I could see all of these having enough support for the top 10 as well lol

We've pretty much eliminated most of the obvious songs, so now the pain begins. I'll take a stab and say these are the ones that miss the top 20.
If You Loved Me Renegades, Rebels And Rogues Runnin’ Behind Til I Was A Daddy Too Used To The Pain

I'm sorry y'all, this kinda got put on the back burner with everything that's been going on in my life last week! I was attending an AP Biology training week last week, which forced me to be on Zoom for 7 hours a day all week long.... And then on top of it we had this major heat wave making it like 110 degrees outside for several days in a row, and I don't have air conditioning, so even sitting on my laptop felt like too much work ![:dead:](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/smiley_resurrect_grave.gif) Plus New Country Releases was due at the end of the month, and had to be revealed on more of a time limit. Then of course I went home and spent time with family for the 4th of July weekend ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Today, I am back and I am ready to get us to the top 20!!!! Let's see if we can wrap this up in the next few days!!

"Til I Was A Daddy Too" is one that starts out seeming like it might be reeeeeaaaaaally boring, but it picks up so nicely heading into the chorus ![](http://i.imgur.com/2smy76v.gif) I have found myself loving this one more and more as I have familiarized myself with it for this rankdown. It seemed to be pretty well liked overall, as it didn't receive any bottom 10 ranks at all. It also didn't receive any super high ranks either, outside of a top 5 from 🌺CountryLineDancer and a #8 from Kanenrá:ke . So overall the middle of the 20s is about how well it was ever going to do.

"Renegades, Rebels & Rogues" is officially the second huge hit from his string of early '90s successes to leave us, after "Somebody Paints The Wall left at #27!!!! This one is not on any of his studio albums though, as it was actually released through the Maverick soundtrack. This one is catchy, but unlike most of the big hits from this phase of his career, this one didn't receive many high ranks. Outside of George Strait Junkie's #7, the majority of the ranks for this one came in the teens and twenties, which helped it to get this high without much trouble, but it definitely had a ceiling.

"How A Cowgirl Says Goodbye" marks another important occasion in this Rankdown, as this is Tracy's first top 5 hit to leave us!!!!!! The hits just keep getting bigger and bigger! Soon we might actually lose one of his #1 hits ![](http://ruadventures.com/forum/Smileys/animated/popcorn.gif) Similarly to RR&R, this one just didn't receive nearly as many high ranks as some of his other huge hits did. It had no trouble staying in or near the top 20, but never had hope to be a top 10 contender or anything like that. It also seemed to receive more low ranks than any of his other huge hits, as it received three bottom 10s, including a bottom 2 from ClevelandRox! I think it is a good time for this to leave. For some reason this has always been one of my least favorites on his hits collections that I own, so I'm glad it didn't outlast any of his other top 5 hits.

Another top 5 leaves with "Runnin' Behind", although I would say this is one of his more forgotten top 5 hits. That is mostly because it is surrounded by so many of his biggest hits in the context of his career, including "Sticks And Stones" and "Today's Lonely Fool" on its own era, and a firewall of #1 hits on his next era (kicked off by the iconic "Alibis"!) Still, this one was a VERY consistent contender, and was pretty much always on pace to make the top 25 but miss the top 20!

Truly anything is one the table now, because for our final song to miss the top 20, we lose our first #1 hit!!!!! ![:smokingdiva:](http://i.imgur.com/t6wcd.jpg) "My Second Home" is such a clever, memorable song! That hook is so unique and strong. I love how he tells us he has always called the bar his second home, but then his wife tells him "Your second home just became your first" like even she is in on the fact that he felt such strong feelings towards his bar. It's just the right amount of white trash to make you chuckle, while also being just realistic enough to be believable. And of course a killer melody as well! I wish this one had managed to make the top 20. It was very close until the last couple lists!!
