That is MRC/Nielsen (BB), RIAA has a few different rules (double albums counting as two sales as an example). The rule before was that artists could freely take songs from varius artist compilations (didn't matter if the compilation album had been certified or not using the certain song's units, example Spider-man is last certified on 1 May 2019, Post can use every stream & sale from 2 May 2019 onward and the Compilation album is restricted from using units from that song ever again.) *random dates btw*

This isn't for weekly Hot 100 discussion, but since the topic is RIAA.

RIAA updated the rules for album certifications recently. The new rules are:

Downloads and streams(both past and prospective) of tracksthat appear only as bonus tracks on a retailer/service-exclusive version of an album may only include sales from that specific retailer/service. The RIAA & GR&F will require labels to confirm in writing that only sales from the specific retailer/service have been included in their reports for the exclusive tracks.

This was a common trick to get higher certifications. Labels would release Target exclusives that had additional 2/3 singles, but these versions don't exist on streaming services.

But before it was enought to have it on one platform/retailer and everything counted.

Example: Billie Eilish had a Target exclusive for WWAFAWDWG which has 'everything i wanted', 'when i was older', 'bitchеs broken hearts'.

For collaborative tracks with multiple primary artists(e.g. a duet) that appear on the respective studio album of each artist, single-track downloads and streams can count toward the certification of either/both album/s only if each artist appears as aprimary artist on the track.

This ѕhit used to be first come, first served. Since songs with 2 lead artists could only count for 1 album.

Now it is straightforward, songs like Senorita count for both artists albums.

For multi-artist compilation albums,single-track downloads and streams are eligible towards certification only if they have not previously been included toward the certification of a different album (such as the Artist’s studio album). Conversely, the use of a track towards the certification of a multi-artist compilation will then preclude that track from being used toward any future certification of a different album.When applying for the certification of a multi-artist compilation album, the label will be responsible for confirming whether any tracks have been previously applied towards the certification of any other project. Similarly for standard Albums, the label will be responsible for informing the RIAA and its auditors of any tracks which were used towards the certification of a multi-artist compilation album

Sunflower case. I explained how it used to be above. Now it is first come, first served.

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE was certified first, so Sunflower is claimed. Hollywood's Bleeding recieved the very first certification yesterday, the OST has been certified and recertified twice.

Only official video streams (i.e. not user-generated content) are eligible.For the avoidance of doubt, only official videos hosted on either the Artist’s or the Label’s channel(s) will be immediately eligible for consideration. With respect to third-party hosted videos, if a music label is able to fully monetize an official video and receive reporting from the video-hosting platform (e.g. YouTube), and that the video-hosting platform’s reporting does not consider the content to be UGC, then the streams are accepted. If a video-hosting platform flags the video hosted on a third-party channel as UGC, the video cannot be accepted, regardless of any monetization or licensing deals that the Artist/Label may have with the third-party channel.

They explained what is and what isn't UGC. This is interesting but i don't this there is a way for us to see what YT considers UGC/official video. But there are a lot of videos not on the artist channels that have 1B/are nearing 1B views, it would be cool if they counted.

Apparently not. If you go to this link and click on "More Details" for Post Malone, you won't see Sunflower listed in the list of certified songs which count for him. Same with Ariana Grande. Bang Bang is meant to be her highest-certified song at 8x Platinum but despite her being a co-lead artist on the song, it isn't listed in her list. Same thing with Justin Bieber. Shock G, the Bay Area rapper-producer who fueled Digital Underground’s 1990 hit “The Humpty Dance” via his alter ego Humpty Hump and co-produced Tupac Shakur’s debut album, died today in Tampa, FL. He was 57.

It's interesting because Mariah has "One Sweet Day" and "Beautiful" showing for her there, but not "Endless Love" or "When You Believe."

jenglisbe true. I noticed that with Drake, while he shares co-lead credit with Lil Baby on Yes Indeed, RIAA has the song certified as Lil Baby featuring Drake. For Diamonds Dancing off What a Time to Be Alive, Drake shares co-lead credit with Future on the song but it's certified as Drake featuring Future. On Jumpman, Future isn't even credited in the certification. It just says "Drake - Jumpman."

But like strongerq said, geberally, artists are only credited on songs where they're solo/lead artist. Co-leads are credited separately and features don't count.

I know they sold out, but i don’t know how one could think One More Night sounds exactly the same as Girls Like You, or Sugar and Memories. I know it feels like a common joke but if i’m being honest, i never played a single maroon 5 song and said to myself “oh this sounds exactly like their other hits”. I still think their generic, but they have done this long enough to give them their own ‘sound’, even if it isn’t their best at all.

As Mayman mentioned, quite a recalibration for Mediabse. I'm just showing some that had gotten decent gains during the previous week. Country songs seem to be the least affected since they mostly have only that radio format. Finally, I would expect these numbers to be much closer to those reported for songs in the Chart Beat articles.

I know they sold out, but i don’t know how one could think One More Night sounds exactly the same as Girls Like You, or Sugar and Memories. I know it feels like a common joke but if i’m being honest, i never played a single maroon 5 song and said to myself “oh this sounds exactly like their other hits”. I still think their generic, but they have done this long enough to give them their own ‘sound’, even if it isn’t their best at all.

This tbh. For me all Drake songs (and most rap songs) sound the same. For me it's the worst genre along with metal and country yet i don't complain about it over and over.
