Drivers License is definitely in the upper tier of songs that debuted at No. 1, its performance so far has been similar to "7 rings" from what I can remember. I don't think it's disappointing at all, especially for an 18-year old girl nobody really knew of in December.

Seems like "Solid" was completely voided of any video streams... The music video debuted at #22 in the weekly US chart. Even Ski managed to do better at #13.

Drivers License didn’t serve the longevity I thought it would. I know her team has another song to promote, but still underwhelming compared to the bombastic first weeks. popular ballads don't seem to have longevity on the charts.that has been true several decades back . good examples are I Will Always Love You . it had 14 weeks at #1 and 26 weeks on the Hot 100 in it's first run. One Sweet Day had 16 weeks at #1 and 27 weeks on the Hot 100. so far Drivers License has had 15 weeks . possible with the help of streaming it could get a longer run.

When songs are THAT huge from day one, and dominate for several weeks, it makes sense when they fizzle out quicker than a song that has a steady climb upward, peaks, and then enjoys a slower descent. There are several different consumption scenarios for big hits, and front-loaded is one of them. I'd agree that this is especially true of ballads.

Conspiracy Theory : Billboard purposely put Solid on #12 specifically to not give Drake the #11 peak.

That's an interesting list, thank you!
Some of those 90s hits are legendary despite spending less than 12 weeks (of course for technical reasons back then).

My Heart Will Go On only had 8 weeks in the top 10? Woah Anyway, drivers license performance is pretty solid with that list of #1 debuts top 10 run putting it in context

My Heart Will Go On only had 8 weeks in the top 10? Woah Mostly because it debuted at #1 when the label decided to finally release a physical single. It would have been in the top 10 for weeks longer if it had that from the start. Such was life on the Hot 100 in the '90s.

If Pulse existed back then there would be so much chaos with this physical single hold off by the labels lol

This statement is literally Hello vs Blinding Lights, in terms of the 2 types of big smash hits. Imagine if artists actually took the time to roll out their single strategy slowly again. Drop the song lowkey, and then keep campaigning it until it hits the top 5/10 and then if you want, go for the big blow and drop the remix or sales discount. I would say recently that was exactly how Levitating or Save Your Tears was kind of, but not exactly. I think “I Hope” is a better comparison tbh.

Gotta say I did not expect the phrase "Polo G spent more weeks at number one than Drake's comeback" to be real

Even though this is just Senorita but less interesting, I'm still rooting for this song's success because I want to see Maren succeed

^That just shows that Billboard is pretty inconsistent in applying those rules and will easily make exceptions. They did just that this week for Big Gangsta. It probably would've debuted months ago if Billboard weren't applying their recurrent rules for it. It'll be interesting to see whether Runaway gets the same treatment. Runaway debuts in the Bubbling Under chart at #4
