Hello, everyone. Two Months left until the deadline! Hope everyone is doing well. Another extra is coming soon, probably in the next couple of days. In the meantime, here is the theme song from the Batman TV show that debuted in 1966.

"In 1966, a Miami boy smuggled three Giant African Land Snails into the country. His grandmother eventually released them into the garden, and in seven years there were approximately 18,000 of them. The snails are very destructive and had to be eradicated."
The British Invasion wasn't the only invasion of the 1960's

Another extra, this time a song that broke grounds musically in 1966. "Barney's on Fire" by the Crimsonflames was inspired by an old book about a stuffed armadillo that came to life and helped kids do jumping jacks and shoot their parents with pizza crusts. He was originally called Horace but later called Barney. The song peaked at #7 on the week of June 9th, 1966 and spent 38 weeks on the chart, the longest chart run of the year, mostly between the #64 and #74 positions. It wasn't until 1987 that PBS created the idea of Barney being a dinosaur instead of a giant armadillo. The Redfires originally came from a country in Europe called Balachria, in between Albania and Greece. The lead singer later founded Anonymous and was even the mentor of Mark Zuckerberg, Obama, John Lennon, and Chelsea Manning, and also was later best friends with Hunter Thompson and believes the world is a simulation and all humans should be naked. Nobody knows what he looks like, they always performed with animal face masks. He is sometimes said to be the inspiration for Austin Powers. Some believe he is really politician and professional tresspasser Mitt Rodney's alter ego, while others say he is really Darth Vader and Pillsbury doughboy actor James Earl Jones or Robert Redford, the guy mostly known for nodding his head in a meme. {Yes}This isn't an April fools joke sent in late, it's real guys.

Hey guys, we are back. This rankdown will be due in 40 days now. A rankdown update will be given every few days, but I will only tag every two updates. Currently, only three lists have been sent, but I'm hoping that will change soon enough. In some cases, I may find images I think are interesting that relate to the sixties, maybe not even specific to 1966 only. The five songs of note for this update are the following:
14: What Becomes of the Brokenhearted - Jimmy Ruffin
28: Paperback Writer - Beatles
50: Elusive Butterfly - Bob Lind
61: Sloop John B - Beach Boys
84: Land of 1000 Dances - Wilson Pickett

EXTRA The Cyrcle "Turn Down Day"
I believe we are now on Extra #23. The "Red Rubber Ball" guys had two hits in 1966. Another extra may be in later.
Fun fact: Our favorite flat Earth rapper B.o.B once sampled this in one of his songs. Also, kinda interesting that they chose circus-like outfits for the performance.

19 Days LeftAnother update for everyone. I'm okay with this being a small rankdown with only a few participants, but I'm not gonna keep the deadline at 5/21 unless I get at least 12 people to send in lists, I only need 9 more. I'm okay with as many lists as possible. I might allow a few extra days in case someone asks for one and lets me know on May 21st or earlier, or at least by the morning of May 22nd. Note that as many people can participate if they want, but if I don't have 12 lists by May 21st, I'm gonna extend it. Anyway, here is the extra for today: The Walker Brothers - probably not one most people have heard of. But I definitely liked it. Remember the eclipse four years ago? I liked it, but I wouldn't want the eclipse to be permanent EXTRA The Walker Brothers "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine No More"
The five songs featured for today from the list: 28. The Beatles - "Paperback Writer" 37. Sandy Posey - "Born a Woman" 41. The Lovin' Spoonful - "Daydream" 69. Crispian St. Peters - "Pied Piper" 82. Bob Dylan - "Rainy Day Women #12 and #35"

(Sweet) Sixteen days left!
Time for another rankdown post. Another extra today, this time one of the craziest songs to chart this year. Sounds like the Bob Dylan song on here if more marijuana was used in the production of the song. Hilarious song about man going crazy over a woman and will be institutionalized to the "happy home". Sometimes called one of the worst songs of the 60's but it seems good to me, just an odd song (which isn't bad either). It also had a strange chart run. It peaked at #3, higher than hits like "California Dreamin", "Kicks", or "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted". But it didn't make the year end because it only charted 6 weeks. That's a super short run even for the 1960's.
EXTRA
Napoleon XIV "They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha-ha"
Songs of the day: 21. The Rolling Stones - "Paint It, Black" 34. The Mindbenders - "A Groovy Kind of Love" 46. James and Bobby Purify - "I'm Your Puppet" 70. Brenda Lee - "Coming on Strong" 77. Dionne Warwick - "Message to Michael"

I'm surprised they managed to even get that done in 1966. It definitely seems like (sadly) mental health has been stigmatized for a while, though oddly enough I didn't really think of it being offensive - sometimes I think of this as being more "exhibition humor". Like, it's probably offensive while also I can understand the humor behind it - not really making fun of mental health, but the idea of someone going this crazy over someone leaving them. (Btw I've struggled with mental health myself, and still am). At the same time, it's nice to know that some people actually took mental health seriously. I just hope I don't sound like I'm stigmatizing it.

15 Days Left!!
No extras today, but I just want to note where things are for this rankdown. Currently, I'm doing finals for my university, so I'm more busy than usual. I should be done by May 11th, but around the 12th through 14th, I want to see what else I should do for this rankdown. I'm still kinda new and haven't been extremely active in posting or participating in rankdowns, so I would like someone to help me with certain technical things related to Excel. Below is a picture of Carnaby Street in England, representing the Swingin' Sixties (from its wiki page).
The songs for today are as followed: 3. The Righteous Brothers - "You're My Soul and Inspiration" 22. Petula Clark - "My Love" 40. The Left Banke - "Walk Away Renee" 59. Stevie Wonder - "Uptight (Everything's Alright)" 65. The Temptations - "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep"

11 Days left Finally chose the Fab Four as an Extra, this one peaked at #4 but still never made the Year End. Also, just a reminder, but I would still like to get some lists in soon. Please take your time, I know I've changed the due date many times but I don't want to this time, but I don't think a 3-participant rankdown would be very fun, hence why I'm trying to get at least 12 participants.
EXTRA
The Beatles "Day Tripper"
Songs for today: 12. Roger Williams - "Born Free" 33. The Beach Boys - "Good Vibrations" 47. B.J Thomas - "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" 78. Lou Rawls - "Love is a Hurtin' Thing" 94. Chris Montez - "The More I See You"

10 Days Left! Love has returned to Earth - and by that, I mean the band - led by Arthur Lee. Here's their biggest hit from 1966 - a powerful boost of energy "7 and 7 Is" - peaked only at #33 but still interesting - probably one of the heaviest songs from this year - oh, and it got covered by the Ramones - and also one of the first hard rock groups with Black members (though Rock n Roll was originated from Black artists) - I definitely enjoy both of their albums from 1966. Also like some of the interesting lyrics like "Mind in an ice cream cone". I can definitely say songs like this or "Talk Talk" by the Music Machine have influence on groups like The White Stripes (both songs charted in late 1966).
Oh yeah, and 7 and 7 is 14
EXTRA
Love "7 and 7 Is"
Todays songs from the Rankdown: 11. The Lovin' Spoonful - "Summer in the City" 26. Donovan - "Sunshine Superman" 32. Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels - "Good Golly, Miss Molly" 56. Simon and Garfunkel - "Homeward Bound" 100. Wilson Pickett - "Soulsville USA (634-5789)"

Today's extra never charted in America - but this band was highly influential to reggae/ska and is known for being where Bob Marley and Peter Tosh started their careers. This was their biggest single in 1966. Also, "Rude Boy" is really commonly used as a term associated with early ska. I mean, who doesn't love Bob Marley.
EXTRA
Bob Marley and the Wailers "Rude Boy"
Songs for today: 19. Tommy James and the Shondells - "Hanky Panky" 36. The Capitals - "Cool Jerk" 52. Ray Charles - "Cryin' Time" 66. The T-Bones - "No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach Is In)" 91. Herman's Hermits - "Dandy"
[Funny enough, The Wailers also had several jerk-related songs - The jerk was probably the biggest dance of the mid-1960's]

7/8 Days LeftHey, I just want to make a note here - not trying to attack anyone here. I get I have been putting this Rankdown off, but in this case I definitely want it due by this deadline. I get the 60's might not be the most interesting era for many people here, though I'd love to see more participants for this - just a friendly reminder. No need to feel rushed (I definitely prefer well-thought out lists). I also don't really have connections with many users on here, though I definitely appreciate those who have turned in lists and said they will turn them in. But I'm not sure if a rankdown with only 3 participants will be very interesting, I still want this to be due on May 21st, though I'm also trying to achieve the goal of at least 12 users. Otherwise, I will put off the deadline by a week or two, but after that deadline, I'm gonna start no matter how many participants I get. It's also the first rankdown I've hosted. I'd love to get some feedback - I'm not sure if asking for 12 lists is too ambitious or not, I might try to reach out to certain users who I have interacted with. I also want to make an effort of contributing to more rankdowns myself. If anyone wants to ask for a reasonable extension, I'm all ears. This might seem too personal sounding to post here, I just wanted to air my thoughts.

5/6 Days Left Hey everybody, I have just gotten 2 additional lists from khan and rowellfarm490 . Thank you guys so much. I have no extras today, but I do want to give an update. I may message some of yall who have said you might be interested. If you aren't quite ready, make sure to give me a good time when you should be ready, and I will be good with giving an extension so you can get your lists in. I do want to start at least by the end of May or by early June, though, so it needs to be reasonable. Unfortunately, I think my computer also died on me last night 😞😓 But I can still do rankdown stuff on my phone, it will just take longer. I'm also gonna add some more people to tag and give then a week or so to complete the list, or whichever extension they want. I look forward to doing this rankdown. 😀
The rankdown songs for today are as followed: 1. Sgt. Barry Sadler - "The Ballad of The Green Berets" 25. Paul Revere and the Raiders - "Kicks" 63. The Surfaris - "Wipe Out" 74. The Marvelettes - "Don't Mess With Bill" 86. Peter and Gordon - "Woman"
