If a certain song isn't last... If it's The Boys probably not because I didn't tank it.

I'm hoping you are all very kind to Ms. Roberta Flack. She is a legend and deserves some love.

Kids never do well in rankdowns.
I don't usually dunk on The Boys to the extent others do but they are very much the 'kids brought in to do that little dance for mama 'nem' portion of this rankdown. Now it's bedtime and it's time for mama 'nem to turn on the grown folks' music. Also, I never realized unti this rankdown but all prebubescent boys really do have the same voice because Immature sounded exactly like them three years later.
I'm a smidge surprised Atlantic Starr and The O'Jays went out this early, I figured they'd be closer to mid-pack. Nothing from this point out is a bad song though (including Surface Jay, lol), my bottom 10 is mainly just the stuff I either didn't know at all or rarely heard, and My First Love/Have You Had Your Love Today in particular aren't close to the strongest that either group has ever released.

Off to a decent start. Got a perfect prediction.Got rid of some songs in my bottom 5.I didn't want to lose a song in my top 20 so soon but it's good.

My lowest needs to go. I couldn't keep it together once its title was sung.

I knew The Boys would be dead last but I hope at least someone else agrees with my #37 being trash. I didnβt recall it prior to this rankdown and I hope to never recall it again.

This extra was his biggest hit on the soul chart, peaking at #2.

"Closer Than Friends" being #31 is a travesty. Especially over a certain song still not revealed...

Today's record was a hot ass mess. The best thing to come out of that whole group was Big Bub going on to help Mary with My Life.

Tbh I struggled to put 11-23 in any order, imo this wasn't a great list so anything I mildly liked had a chance to be in my top half. No idea why "Shower" is the remaining Surface song though, that was a very easy last place for me....

33. Girl I Got My Eyes On You - Today
Formed in Englewood, New Jersey, they were originally known as The Gents. After a chance meeting with Teddy Riley, the group was renamed Today. Their second charted single became their biggest hit. The chorus is interpolated from the Carrie Lucas song "Show Me Where You're Coming From".

How did we lose some of the songs from today while Jermaine and another high profile (pointless) song are still in? The song by Today was a bopβ¦. Jermaineβs song barely has a pulse.

Today's extra was the first charted single by this LA-born rapper. One of the biggest hits of the year, it peaked at #3 on the soul chart and #2 on the Hot 100. It contains an uncredited sample of the Van Halen song "Jamie's Cryin'". A civil lawsuit followed which was later settled out of court.
