Unpopular Opinion: Butter is just a basic pop song lyrically and Dynamite is better. Dynamite was more catchy but the messy autotune vocals ruined it...butter has better vocals but the song is not good

someone's argument for Olivia Rodrigo being a plant is them being on the cover of New Music Friday. I'm not denying she isn't a plant - she is a plant just like Dua and Lana, it's fine. it's really not that big a deal but whatever What would make someone NOT an "industry plant" to this forum?

There are a lot of things that make an artist a plant in this forum. Having relatives in the industry, having promotional backing from large companies that lead to playlists and radio might do it. It is hard to imagine an artist that is popular without having something that would make them a plant in the eyes of people here.

The best BTS song I like is Waste It on Me with Steve Aoki, now that song is actually really good I donβt know why it wasnβt bigger. This is the first song I heard from them in public and didnβt know who they were.

Fake love is the da only bts track on my playlist, its good In other-other news AJR won the BBMA's best rock song π The way it was by far the worst and least rock-sounding out of the nominees ("Monsters", "Heat Waves", "my ex's best friend", and "Level Of Concern"). A real shame, but since the awards are based on chart success, well...it is what it is. I'm surprised "Mood" was considered as rap instead of rock (despite its strong grip on the Rock Charts), and that "Come & Go" probably wasn't considered either. Both have significantly more rock elements compared to "Bang!".

Butter is good but doesn't show off its full potential and I wish the radio had given fake love more of a chance to blossom. I think fire, BST, and dope are some of their best, plus 134340, Dis-ease, and Blue and Grey. Young forever and moving on are also classics.

Olivia really gave us the 3 best songs on the album first. I tried to find another song that sounded like the singles but idk. While brutal, traitor, enough for you and hope ur ok are the other songs i go back to, nothing compares to the magic appeal of drivers license, the happier vibe of deja vu, and a mix of both of those songs + a the pop punk elements of good 4 u (which is my most favorite song on the album).

Good 4 u was not an official single (just a promo single).. The label was fast and made it an official single after a few days cause they saw the potential

Good 4 u was not an official single (just a promo single).. The label was fast and made it an official single after a few days cause they saw the potential how many promo singles u see getting full video treatment lmao. It definitely was a single and the most obvious one on the album, even moreso than driver's license. I seriously think good 4 u could be as big as driver's license, maybe not PEAK DL but i can definitely see more longevity here. Radios are gonna EAT that song UP

I really think Olivia is gonna the next big thing. Like the next katy perry, rihanna or gaga (although not sure if she can attain that typa longevity). Her numbers are just PHENOMENAL, how many artists do we see debuting at #1 with 2 of their first 3 singles ORGANICALLY? Like EVER??

The songs they and their small in house team at BigHit create are top tier. From lyrics, production, composition, etc. etc. F***ing amazing. I wish they and the BigHit producers had more of a hand with their English singles but Iβm not complaining too much... theyβre catchy and donβt reflect on the rest of the discography.

Support from the industry and being an "industry plant" are two very different things... Obviously there are plenty of deserving artists who don't get as much industry support as others, but calling the ones who do "plants" to delegitimize their very real success is silly.

Is βindustry plantβ the next Pulse obsession as a term to use against separate groups of artists to make them seem less credible?

It seems to be a general obsession among those who are fans of music criticism in general to delegitimize various acts that happen to have received popularity.

Many of the biggest pop stars from the past 30 years started out as Mouseketeers, had their own show on Disney/Nickelodeon or were signed to major labels before they released a song or could even legally drive.
The "industry plant" criticism only makes sense in genres like hip hop or rock were a "started from the bottom" grind is highly valued.
