Before yall get angry at TOTC for "pushing ARMY stand to buy more":
They dont tweet, ARMY stans will harrass and accuse them for being "biased against BTS" They tweet and sales will go up
They're just doing their job, and the team get enough harassment from ARMY stans as it is. I do want to publicly apologize because I did use to have this mentality but not anymore. Bottomline: don't blame TOTC just because ARMY is chart obsessed

At this point, whichever song wins out this week will depend on how many of BTS' sales Billboard will chuck out (if any at all). We all saw what happened to Levitating and its sales last week, which apparently was being done in preparation for this week's race. So if Billboard chucks a significant chunk from Butter's sales this week, that could make all the difference.

This week is so spicy. I’m very invested in seeing if Billboard keeps the same energy that they had with Dua.

Why did songs not debut at #1 before 1995?…

Why did songs not debut at #1 before 1995?… Because songs needed a physical single to be able to chart. Usually a single was commercially released and sent to radio at the same time, so it usually debuted at the bottom or with luck, in the middle of the Hot 100. What labels started doing after Michael Jackson's You are not alone, was sending the song to radio... then wait for several weeks until it builds enough airplay and release the single to stores so the airplay peak matches the sales peak. Besides that, before the internet era there was not so much anticipation. Usually eras were built with time, promo, radio and word of mouth. First weeks were not that important as they are now.

Better accuracy in sales/radio numners
#1 albums rarely are not #1 debuts anymore. Pre-Soundscan only happened about a half dozen times

Anyone know why the instrumental version of Butter suddenly surged on iTunes? I know BTS performed on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, but the stans should have all bought both versions already and should probably be anticipating the remixes soon...

The good old days. Sometimes i wish they could go back to the 80s 50/50 era. The late 90s-pre Itunes was the worst 75% airplay 25% singles. Madness. But yes MJ, Whitney and certainly Mariah enjoyed that mid 90s switch and it actually made sense to wait until airplay built up. The only thing that confuses me about the mid 90s point system is that looking at the radio time for the single and the hot 100 chart seemed unaligned.

This week is so spicy. I’m very invested in seeing if Billboard keeps the same energy that they had with Dua. And avoid the clickbait articles about the "record breaking" third number one single for a K-Pop band or something like that? They enjoy the traffic way too much.

It'd be their 4th #1 and 3rd #1 debut. They got credited for the Savage Love remix.

They will still drop 67 articles and 234 tweets about "Butter" going #1 because it's easy traffic into their site.

Well that’s not much of a “debut” lol

True enough, but none of the points or weeks that they would have gotten credit for before the release of the singles counted on the Hot 100 either.

The way her Spotify and Apple Music dominance may mean nothing because of 10k stans 😩 Y’all gotta let the 10k stans thing go. They’ve sold out stadium tours here. They have a LARGE fanbase. They just suck at streaming 😭 It's true tho. It doesn't matter if they've sold stadiums here b/c if mass buying wasn't a thing it's clear they wouldn't be touching #1 or even be close

Billboard is a revenue chart. I'm disgusted by the anti-East Asian sentiment in this thread/board.

Billboard is not a revenue chart. Otherwise, $.39, $.69 and $1.29 song sales would not be counted the same.

I'm disgusted by the anti-East Asian sentiment in this thread/board. You do realize that Olivia Rodrigo is Filipina. That alone shows that there is no anti-East Asian sentiment in this thread/board.

I guess for these BTS fans, disliking BTS (or actually, people disliking their fanbase) = "anti East Asian" or xenophobia. Not sure why that is, but it's most certainly not the case.

Billboard is a revenue chart. I'm disgusted by the anti-East Asian sentiment in this thread/board. pleeeeease do less. It's not racism or xenophobia to claim that BTS wouldn't be number one if their stans didn't abuse the system. If their audience was as numerous as you say, why is their streaming so unimpressive for a group their size? It should be neck and neck with Olivia no? But they're getting BLOWN OUT. Why? Because there's no need to stream when 50k fans can just drop 5 dollars and get them "200k sales" and that somehow outweighs the streaming gap, which is the most accurate way to track a songs true popularity in 2021. Also this isn't an "east-asian" hate thing. Nicki and 69 get it just as bad when fuckery like this is afoot. Even Dua stans caught some heat last week. But BTS Stans are by far the biggest offenders.

as an east asian, not caring for bts in no way is an attack on my people. nor is rightfully pointing out how a small # of people are buying many many copies each.

Imagine accusing people as racist for being critical of stans mass buying.

BTS stans are sexist pigs for going against a solo woman.
Am I doing this right?
