This seems pretty huge for a country single that didnβt cross over to Pop/HAC. When was the last time this happened with such a song?

This seems pretty huge for a country single that didnβt cross over to Pop/HAC. When was the last time this happened with such a song? With ONLY Country radio, I don't think it's ever happened. Prior to the recalibration, country songs always stalled out at 15-19 overall. But now, it might not be that rare of an occurrence, as "What's Your Country Song" went to #12, and "Hell of a View" was ridiculously close to entering, peaking at #11 - alas, "Go Crazy" stalling and "Kiss Me More" rising fast made it impossible for it do so.

Lost Cause not even over 1M streams today is surprising. I wouldnβt say itβs time for panic mode yet, but definitely worrying.

"brutal" alone reasonates with me more than the entirety of Scorpion, although there were a handful of really good tracks on Drake's album; it just really needed to cut at least 10 songs or so.

Just let go of Blinding Lights, radio has already milked that to death. Iβm finally ready to let it go. I will be satisfied with 78 weeks on the Hot 100. Ideally, I would have liked it to get to 79 and 80 weeks to finish ahead of Sail, but if it doesnβt happen, itβs okay.

If it falls to recurrent because the album of the week launches 10 songs in the top 30 from streaming, it may not be done.

Just let go of Blinding Lights, radio has already milked that to death. Agreed. For me at least, The song sticking around so long past its welcome has tremendously hurt its replay value in the long run. I liked it a lot When it came out, but I haven't sought it out in well over a year and don't intend on doing so anytime soon. In fact, I instinctively change the station or song anytime it comes on shuffle, and skip it anytime I go back to After Hours. It's too bad bc I used to dig it lol, but I honestly never see myself enjoying the song again.

If it falls to recurrent because the album of the week launches 10 songs in the top 30 from streaming, it may not be done. Yes it does. Every time a long running song is sent to recurrency because of an album bomb, it never comes back. Sunflower didn't come back after Jesus is King, Perfect didn't return after Tha Carter V, and so on and so on. They only made on exception with Christmas because 40 songs left the charts.

Yes, you are right about this. And this time, thereβs no award show around the corner to give BL the boost to save it. (Even with the small bump from the BBMAs, BL barely survived Week 77, and probably would have went recurrent without it.)

I feel like BB needs to adjust their rules on recurrency due to album bombs. If a song only goes recurrent because an artist has 10 songs ahead of it, it should be able to come back. Maybe if it is below 25/50 for 2 consecutive weeks or something? Not so concerned for Blinding Lights necessarily, but it just seems like that would make sense.

If a song doesn't come back from recurrency due to an album bomb or whatever it's probably for a reason.

TOTC did a great job explaining how recurrency works in a recent blog article on this topic. If youβre wondering why songs that qualify for recurrency and get knocked out by an album bomb donβt come back, itβs because the label is all but done pushing them and has (in most cases) moved on to the artistβs next single or project. Radio is usually the most consistent indicator of this, so in some cases a song that should be going recurrent when an album bomb crashes through doesnβt do so because itβs still gaining in that category (e.g. I Like Me Better the week of Scorpion in 2018).

I donβt mind there being recurrent rules, I just wish they were more consistent in enforcing them. I didnβt like that they kept I Like Me Better, but dropped Plug Walk all the way from #15. That to me is very inconsistent.
Perhaps, they need to put a lower bound on how low songs with 20+ weeks can chart. I can be fine if they said songs with 20+ weeks that are rising can chart, but not lower than #60, for example.

That would seem to be a move that would hurt Country and Adult R&B songs particularly, and those are the ones that are usually hovering around or below #60 and still rising after 20 weeks anyway.

We have to draw the line somewhere, though. To me, if a song is hovering around the 60s more than 20 weeks into its run, it's most likely stagnant, and should probably be left off the charts until it gets above 50 or 60.
