I think we should have satisfied everyone about the PM Social 50 winner for this week.

What a year this has been for charts lol I know right! - and I'm loving every second of it! From the long-awaited comeback of R&B with "Good Days" and "HEARTBREAK ANNIVERSARY", to songs like "Streets" and "Levitating" gaining organic momentum, to the unexpected success of Olivia Rodrigo, "RAPSTAR", and "Calling My Phone" - just to name a few. It's been such an exciting year to follow the charts! โค Of course, this is subjective, but for me, the quality has been incredibly consistent as well, where even the lesser top 20 tunes are still enjoyable. Only country has been mostly subpar this year.

I think Good 4 U is one of the worst songs of the year, after Drake songs of course.

I think PYRO has worst song of the year on lock. Some other of the worst songs of this year include AITO, Lifestyle, My Head & My Heart, One Too Many, and Wasted On You.

something about this year for charts and music in general has felt very off to me. like not much i've heard has been outright bad but majority of the hits are decent at best and boring at worst. this year in total just feels very mid to me with the exception of a few great songs

Just the Way is also bad, will probably top my worst list if it makes the YE and then there's also Holy, Lonely, Beautiful Mistakes, Bang!, Cry Baby, The Good Ones and some others that I can't think of right now.
Edit: Heat Waves is also pretty basic.

I think 2021 has been both better and worse than 2020. On the one hand, it's been better because we actually have #1-debuting hits with staying power for once and not a constant stream of flash-in-the-pan debuts and remixes there that don't last more than 20 weeks on the charts. We've also seen the breakthrough of promising new talents like Olivia Rodrigo and Giveon that are shaping up to be some of the defining artists of the 2020s. On the other hand, there generally aren't as many truly excellent songs to become big hits as there were last year IMO, and country in particular has had a really rough year coming off a fantastic 2020 for that genre, in large part thanks to the downfall of Morgan Wallen and some really bad singles that have done all too well this year (The Good Ones, What's Your Country Song, Good Time, Just the Way, etc.).

Excellent assessment. While the lows from 2020 are much worse than those from 2021 (say what you want about "Astronaut In The Ocean" or "Put Your Records On", but they're not transparent attempts to manufacture a hit song like "Stuck With U" and "Toosie Slide", and have artistic merit to them despite their flaws), the excellent songs from the year were truly on another level, though I'd say 2021 has worthy contenders as well. Couldn't agree more on the rough year country is having in comparison to 2020. Even taking Wallen out of the picture, while Combs, Stapleton, and Church managed to successfully crossover to streaming (with quality tunes to their names), everyone else relies on Nashville airplay, which gives most songs very little longevity on the charts. And indeed, while we had good stuff like "hole in the bottle", "Somebody Like That", and "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)", these didn't get nearly as much success as "The Good Ones", "GOOD TIME", "Just The Way", and even "Lil Bit". Real shame...

At least "What's Your Country Song" is making the year-end as a consolation.

At least "What's Your Country Song" is making the year-end as a consolation. To each their own, but as for me, I'm not a fan of that song. It's not the worst country song to become a legitimate hit this year, but it's painfully mediocre, even by modern Thomas Rhett standards. Country Again is much better, IMO. I'm hoping that one takes off and becomes a real hit soon.

Speaking of country anybody remember Dicked Down in Dallas? Whatever happened to that song, it looked like it had potential but the steam ran out very quick.

The interest in that song really faded pretty quickly, and of course it had no radio or sustained sales/streaming.

Our Country is the only good song on there, in my opinion. I remember hearing that in a Chevy commercial back in the day.

Real shame... Eric Church didn't really crossover to streaming, or at least Spotify, likely because he had a one-week exclusive streaming deal with Apple Music for Mr. Misunderstood album back then. Heck, Monsters and Stick That In Your Country Song never appear in Hot Country playlist, the latter not even in New Music Friday playlist. I think most of his streams are from Springsteen which is recurrent anyway. I also think all of country hits that made year-end charts this year (or recent years) have at least decent streaming success.
