I don't see this doing anything on Pop unless a remix is serviced.

This song is pretty good. It's light and breezy, perfect for the summer. The ending has a nice layer of sounds that I wish was more prevalent in the rest of the song though.

I wanted to hear the song multiple times before I commented on it here. I can understand why most seem disappointed. For the first new song from Lorde in a long time, we all wanted something that blew us away on immediate listen.
This certainly didn't do that to me at least, but I do like the song. It's a bit upbeat and soothing at the same time. It just never really picks up to the point that it makes you remember it easily.
I would have been fine this being an album track, but I like probably everyone else here expected a lot more. That doesn't mean that her new album doesn't have that coming, but for a debut single, I think that wasn't the best of choices in terms of sound.

^ totally agree
I mean, the song will be on my playlist this summer for sure, but...I expected more. Still, her average material is better than someone's best.

I don't see this doing anything on Pop unless a remix is serviced. Andrew Weatherall would have done a killer remix of this if he were still alive. As Lorde found out, this song is not too far off from Primal Scream's Scremadelica. I do really like "Solar Power", but I think it would have been much better if she'd leaned fully into the Madchester sound of the last minute or so.

Put me in the overall like camp. As others have said - it feels fun, but still like Lorde. I also can't get the "Faith" comparison out of my head now that someone has pointed it out. I imagine a YouTube mashup is just around the corner (if it's not already out).

really?? Did they release the chart a day early? I think they've confused the "Official Chart: First Look" with the actual chart. New songs are usually much higher on the former because it only includes tracking over the weekend.

Screamadelica was the first thing I thought of when I heard this song as well. I would be all for a Madchester revival led by Lorde, it would fit the whole 90s nostalgia phase that seems to be really picking up steam right now perfectly.

And Primal Scream gave this song a very generous co-sign on Twitter, too. That article they link to (and also the Variety article I posted) has a bit of an interview Lorde had with Zane Lowe where she talks about the similarities to Primal Scream and her calling up Bobby Gillespie about it. Lorde said she was told "Solar Power" sounds like "Loaded" specifically, but I think it sounds like the entire album in general.

It’s growing on me maybe? At least I’ll admit to it.
I always through “Perfect Places” got screwed by radio.

She needed a kicker, more in the direction of "Green Light", not melodically but in terms of energy.
This sounds like a 4th single to an already really successful album. Lorde needs to get there first.

This got a lot of mentions on my timelines after release but it's been a few days since I last read anyone talking about it. I wonder if they plan to do some more singles before the album release because otherwise the album will open to really bad numbers (and bundling can't help it this time).
