It should probably not be a surprise that we start with a Christmas song...There is definitely a surprise to be had in the fact that we are already losing our first #1 rank though! dgarcia3377 's #1 rank came at a time when it was able to push the song from #29 up to #26, and then tim 's top 20 rank helped push it up a couple more positions to #24....and then it ran out of gas and fell gradually for the rest of the submission process. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people take well-known songs and then breathe in the wrong places....and this song very much suffers from that problem  "O come let us * breathes* adore him, * breathes* O come let us * breathes* adore him, * breathes* O come let us adore * breathes* him, Christ * breathes* the Lord." You get the idea. It's distracting af if you care about that sort of thing. She literally sounds winded for this entire song because she doesn't hold a single phrase all the way through to its natural conclusion. Still, SHOOTER is the only one who put this in last place, because there are actually bad songs in this list, and this isn't one of them. |

"Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" is the crown jewel of Carrie's Christmas material to me I know that I am in the minority with that opinion, but... Carrie's vocal is complete perfection here, and the arrangement is designed perfectly to enhance that fact! It helps that this is one of those songs that nobody else really has a cover of, so this song isn't played every Christmas to the point of over saturation. I can guarantee that Carrie's will forever be the gold standard of this song. I can understand people finding the song in general to be boring, although tbh this is one of those songs where the only way you can think that is if you haven't listened to it enough |

Our first non-Christmas elimination is the bonus track from Play On. "Home Sweet Home" is a cover of a Mötley Crüe hit, and actually started out as a fairly consistent top 10 contender here thanks to all of its highest rankers coming in the first few lists...before plummeting all the way from inside the top 10 to outside of the top 20 over the course of just a few lists thanks to several of its lowest rankers suddenly coming back-to-back in a similar fashion. From there it never recovered, as its ranks continued to be less-than remarkable. Most songs in this rankdown got their fair share of high ranks scattered throughout the submissions, but this one didn't ever get any more after the very first string.

In our last rankdown the My Savior tracks got decimated in the very bottom of the rankdown, so the trend seems to have shifted a little bit with the first loss from the album escaping the bottom 3!
"Softly And Tenderly" was our most consistent last place contender of the rankdown, however. Unlike we just saw with "Home Sweet Home", this one started out really poorly and then managed to climb a bit near the end thanks to nearly all of its top 10 ranks coming from the final handful of lists.
Personally I can see why people would love this one. It is definitely one that I enjoy when I'm in the right mood. However, it is also one that is a skipper for me if I'm not in the mood for it. I personally like Reba/Trisha/Kelly's recent cover a little better because the tempo is pretty straightforward. This one doesn't really have a tempo, as it speeds up and slows down with every line depending on how Carrie wants to sing it, while Reba's moves at a more predictable speed. Of course that is just a matter of stylistic preference, similar to me preferring versions of "O Holy Night" that move a little faster. Like I said, I do still enjoy this when I'm in the right mood!
