I'm very surprised at Backsliding being out already, I thought it would be on the top10.

Damnn, I'm mad about What I Never Knew I Always Wanted. That song grew on me so much. It deserved better!

"What Can I Say" has never clicked with me, and I think the #1 reason is Sons of Sylvia. It was so random for Carrie to land her first collaboration on one of her albums with such a... random, unnoteworthy band. Then I saw them open for her live on that tour (first time I saw Carrie live) and was even more perplexed because I really didn't think they were that good. I'd probably like the song a lot more if she'd had a duet partner that was more on her level, but as is, it does little for me.

I'm not terribly surprised by the rankdown up to this point. I enjoy "What Can I Say" a lot, but I'm also not surprised to see it go before top 20. I am a little surprised to see "Lessons Learned" and "Quitter" are both still in...I guess I thought those songs weren't really liked much.

Still waiting for "Choctaw County Affair" to leave. I refuse to believe CCA (her worst song, fight me) will make the top 10 in this.

I actually dislike relapse more now than i did when storyteller first came out. I think its the production or something, it might be my most disliked CU song of all time. CCA on the other hand has actually grown on me, even if just a little bit. I still don’t really care for it that much and it places pretty low for me in this ranking, but from how much i disliked it during the storyteller era to now, i do at least like it slightly more now. Lol

Fixed. Amen to that though. Ghosts is just...boring? It's not bad exactly like CCA, it's just bland.

To be fair, you miss the charm in great songs more often than most people I know, so there's no surprise that you never liked "Ghosts"

"Ghosts" is the countriest song on the album and that melody is MONEY. It sounds like it was lifted from Storyteller, which was her best album imo. The concept of her playing vinyl records of her departed musical heroes too loudly in her house alone to the point where the neighbors must think her house is haunted because it looks like no one is home is iconic, but also because the artists are dead and therefore 'ghosts.' I love a good country music double entendre more than just about anything.

We kick off the top 20 with Cry Pretty's second loss, this time from "End Up With You". Of course this random af gif shows the Batmobile broken down on some back road, similar to the first line in the chorus of this song

I expected this to be a strong contender coming into this rankdown because this seemed to have a moderate amount of buzz around it as one that we thought would be good for the followup single to "Drinking Alone" if there had been one (this one and "Ghosts"). This was a STRONG contender near the beginning, even flirting with the top 5 a few times before it finally got tanked out of the top 10 and then the top 15 like 3/5 of the way through the submission process.

This is poppy, but kinda fun, and honestly grew on me a lot quicker than most of the poppier materials on Cry Pretty.

Well, bigd79 will be glad to finally lose his last place, helping relegate "Relapse" to the back of the top 20. This is a quirky song, and I can definitely understand people disliking it. The way the chorus melody leans into the 12/8 time signature is very unusual, leading to unique phrasing that could sound rushed and abrasive to the ear if you're not into that. That being said, this song has a lot of fans because of its unique vibe, so I definitely expected it to do pretty well, and am happy it managed to make the top 20 after being on the cusp near the end! It didn't get a lot of top 10 ranks, and with most of its ranks landing in the teens, it simply wasn't able to hold on any longer than some of the songs that have more extreme levels of love.

It was a constant top 15 contender nearly the whole time, before nearly falling out of the top 20 altogether with the last five TASTELESS lists (before Kanenrá:ke saved the day)...
