It's been awhile since we had those back-to-back losses from Blown Away in the bottom 5, but it finally loses its 3rd song at #17! "Good In Goodbye" was by far one of the most consistent performers we have seen so far, as it settled in to the 16/17 range for nearly the entire rankdown. I have always thought that this one was really pretty  I especially love the way that Carrie sounds when she pulls you into the first chorus with that soft vocal. It tugs on my heartstrings and really captures the emotions of the song. I do think the song suffers a little for getting a bit too slick and polished in the second half and forgetting about all the nuance that was established in the beginning, but I am still happy it was able to make the top 20! |

Oh thank God. I legit was worried this would make a run for #1 in this. "I Know You Won't" has always been massively overrated in her fanbase, but it has just never clicked for me at all. The melody is so dreary and the way she starts screaming the song halfway through and then just... continues belting every note from then on till the end just grates on me. Easily one of my least favorite things she's done to date.

This reveal may come as a big surprise to some and a huge relief to others!!! "I Know You Won't" has long been a fan favorite from Carnival Ride, as the unabashedly LOUD power-belting from Carrie really shows off what she is capable of as a vocalist, which was frankly something that people came to love about her from the very beginning of her career. It was one of the "gimmicks" that set her apart from most female vocalists. Martina McBride was really the only one on the country scene would could belt like that at the time of Carrie's breakthrough, and Carrie leaned into that same niche with an eager gusto that made everybody take notice at a time when Martina's recipe was starting to taste a little stale to the casual fans.
That being said, Carrie tends to have a certain brassiness to her voice when she goes into full-power mode, especially earlier in her career, and that complete lack of nuance has turned a few people off from this song through the years. I was a bit shocked to see it miss the top 15, but in the end its handful of lower ranks just got a little too heavy, and it missed the top 15 by 4 points!

“Lessons Learned” is so…faceless. I have no idea why so many fans cling onto those Diane Warren SH tracks. It must be the nostalgia.
IKYW is iconic. I love when she paired this with “Blown Away” for the BA tour. Those two songs just made so much sense together. The drama!

End Up With You: I enjoy this song a lot, but it's definitely the "weakest" of the Cry Pretty songs on here and I didn't expect it to last as long as it did. Relapse: :( This is out WAY too soon. This rankdown has been cancelled. Y'all need some taste. Lessons Learned: I like this song quite a bit, but I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I do think nostalgia played a part in it making my top 20 because honestly it's nothing superb (like the robbed "That's Where It Is" or even "I Just Can't Live a Lie") but it's nice enough. Good in Goodbye: I like this song, but I do find the far superior track to be "Wine After Whiskey" which does everything this song does, just...better? I Know You Won't: This is a weird one because this is a song I enjoy hearing Carrie sing live...but if I never heard the recorded version of this song again, it would be too soon. I'm just flat on the floor about Renegade Runaway making the top 15. As much as I've wanted to and tried, I've never been able to get into it AT ALL.
Happily surprised Quitter made the top 15 but would be shocked if it made top ten. :/

I Know You Won't is the only one that's surprised me so far. That seemed like it should've been a lock for top 10. I do love Kelly Clarkson's cover of the song, but I had loved Carrie's original already, so I don't think it colored my feelings of the song.

LAWD y'all let Backsliding, Relapse, Good in Goodbye, and What I Never Knew I Always Wanted leave that soon. The taste is lacking. Also wanted to echo indulge's statement from a few days ago about Ghosts on the stereo feeling like a song that could've been on Storyteller. That and Southbound felt like they catered to radio perfectly from that album and I have no doubt it would've been a #1 if released. Now if these songs don't go top 10 I might just riot.

I'm not surprised "End Up With You" is out, I'm actually surprise it was top5 after the first 9 ratings and then top10 after a couple more.
My ranks remaining: 1-2, 4-5, 10-11, 13-14, 16-17, 21, 24, 26, 30-31
At least I only lost one of my top5 so far (What I Never Knew I Always Wanted).

Lessons Learned will always have a special place for me. During my Junior year of college, I was obsessed with it. Not even sure why I was so attached to it lol but listened to it on repeat like every day during lunch at the cafeteria. So whenever I hear it now, it takes me right back to that time

Wow I just realized my #s 3 and 7 (LL and SLT) are the only two songs I have lost so far in my top 10!! Really hope my top 2 can make it all the way or at least top 5. I do think my #2 has a chance but not sure if my #1 can even make top 10. Guess we’ll see! 😬
