I feel like being a (casual) Kpop fan myself has given me some special insight into this whole Army/Hot 100/Butter discourse.
Most people on this forum probably wouldn't know this, but South Korea has its own equivalent to the Hot 100 known as the Gaon Digital Chart. It's basically a revenue chart of the most streamed and bought songs of the week. The chart is generally streaming-dominant as streaming is currently the public's favourite method of music consumption after digital sales collapsed in the country by the mid-2010's.
Much like the Hot 100, because of the chart being so streaming-dominant (ergo, hits in South Korea are generally streaming-dominant), any fandom-driven sales campaign has outsized impact on the chart. Recent examples of this include Im Youngwoong's (a trot singer) "My Starry Love" and Kang Daniel's (former boygroup member) "Antidote". Both recently went #1 on the Gaon Digital Chart because of massive fandom-driven sales campaigns. Seventeen and NCT (other boygroups) also benefit from these kinds of campaigns.
Exo also benefitted from this same kind of campaign in 2017 with their song "Ko Ko Bop". Their Chinese fandom was literally collaborating with the Korean fandom to raise funds to keep buying downloads to keep it at #1 on Gaon. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
The funny thing is that international Kpop fans including BTS fans constantly grill those artists (ESPECIALLY Exo) for being sales-driven because they fall down the Digital Chart quite rapidly after the first week of the sales campaigns are done, unlike BTS who are actually popular with the Korean public and thus don't fall down rapidly after fans buy the song in the first week. Literally just look at the mentions of any Korean chart info account on Twitter.
Big digital numbers from these sales campaigns also typically block artists from achieving wins on music shows. This happened last fall with Dynamite vs Seventeen's "Home Run" on Music Bank.
The point that I'm trying to make is, it's very interesting to see how BTS fans lash out at and mock Kpop singers who chart high in South Korea on the back of fan-driven sales, but then lash out at people who point out that BTS experiences the same thing in the US.
I think other Kpop fans can definitely vouch for me on this.

$5K for every comment. What? Are you interested in the deal too? Also you all get mad for people screenshoting you and posting on twitter but you are screenshooting army from twitter and post here. Hypocrites much? Now what I really donβt get is, you clearly donβt like anyone here, so why do you post? Actually I do like some very knowledge people here who mind their business and I enjoy reading threads about artists and albums I like. Outside of those hot100 threads are very decend people here. And also I don't comment anymore about all that chart manipulation discussion because it's boring at this point. But some of you making up stuff like teenage armys spending every little money they have it's just annoying and far from the true.

Poor Doja..they picked the wrong single. They released 'you right' only cause of The Weeknd..her label still doesn't trust her to release solo songs. 'ain't s**t' is smashing...#4 on apple music,#10 on usa Spotify.. the new 'streets'..another smash hit wasted cause the label doesn't know how to treat their artists.. It just dropped. There's a chance it'll still rise over time. The song is really off to a good start overall.

Adele and BTS are labelmates in the US. Columbia wouldn't complain about BTS blocking Adele, they wouldn't release Adele's new single while the Army is mass buying and delivering weeks at #1 for their label. Is it reasonable to suggest that Adeleβs delay is being extended purely because of BTS? That is entirely reasonable to suggest. Another thing I worry about with this whole BTS drama is the precedence it could be setting. If Billboard doesn't change the rules, and other labels and artists' fan groups see that this is what it takes to get to number one, rather than fighting it they might try to join in on the tactic as well, in which case the Hot 100 will effectively become an arms race of fan-driven mass buying campaigns... whoever has the most money wins, similar to how politicians and elections are run these days. Hopefully it won't become that extreme, but business tactics are always changing and morphing with the times based on whatever regulations are in place.

It's pretty obvious at this point that Good 4 u is going to return to #1 on the Hot 100 this week. Just like with LTDO, G4u just feels too big to only be a one-week #1. Maybe you should stick to posting only about Blinding Lights. Okay then, Blinding Lights will be charting higher than both Butter and Good 4 u in 3 months time. I honestly donβt care which song is #1 because both Butter and G4u are hardly listenable. Iβd much rather Kiss Me More be #1.

You might want to delete this before someone from Twitter screenshots this. I won't delete. I know for a fact that a song unranked on Apple Music (which ranks over 1300 songs) will not be #1 over a song that is #1 on AM and Spotify, as well as #6 on both radio and the iTunes chart. This is just basic math. Good 4 u will be #1 on the 7/17 chart guaranteed.

On radio, Butter will likely have another 3% bump to ~29.1m AI. On streaming, it might dip another 10% at worst, to 9.9m streams. To nab the #1 this week, they'd need around 103k sales, which it looks like they'll be exceeding quite handily this week even accounting for people only preordering Permission to Dance on the webstore. You can argue about whether it's a #1 that will stand in the event of some corrective rulechange in the future, but in the current ruleset, it's far more viable than you're giving it credit for.

Itβs currently #33 under the pop sub-category on the app. You canβt always trust Kworb for Apple rankings as they have been wrong many times before.

153k sales in US are by no means equating to US popularity. Not when they are using funs from BTS stans from around the world to manipulate the US charts. The same group of stans are buying the same song multiple times every week from their website using funds from the international stans. Having said that, Billboard needs to change their formula. It is very inaccurate and flawed. Look I love viewing the Billboard charts but the fact that they haven't done anything to stop these Stans from Manipulating their way to multiple weeks at 1# is simply unbelievable. How can a song that is Streaming nowhere near as good as Olivia's song is and doesn't have the amount of Radio airplay that her song has able to hold onto the Top spot simply because of it's supposed real Sales, It's pretty clear that if Billboard actually did something about this that "Butter" wouldn't even be placing in the Top 10 right now, Which means that "You Right" in reality actually did debut in the Top 10.
