{WHEN THE STATS BEGIN TO FALL} Surprisingly, 6 of the top 10 highest SDs finished in the bottom 10 here. 2 more of the highest standard deviations will show up tomorrow. And a couple of posters will lose their #1 as well so be sure to check in to see which songs finish between #40 and #31. Coming up next are a few songs that charted on the Hot 100 during the 1986 chart year (all peaking before August) that just missed out on being in this rankdown.

I used to like the Cheers theme more until I thought more about what the end of the third verse means. Fortunately you couldn't get away with writing something that vile and associating it with a network TV sitcom today.
I knew Peter Tosh was going to fail here as soon as I saw his name in the list...in a way, I'm glad we were only ranking a cover and not something like "Equal Rights" or "Legalize It", because if I saw either of those songs this low I would be pretty mad. The hate for Cockburn though, what's that all about? Too Canadian for ya, eh?

I always hated Motley Crue, but HSH was head & shoulders superior to all of their other singles so I was shocked to see it this low…but I’m not really bothered by its low ranking <shrug>

50. When the Rain Begins to Fall - Jermaine Jackson and Pia Zadora I tried with this song. I dug the Hi-NRG beats the music was going for, but I didn't feel Jermain's vocals fit the style one bit. Pia Zodora's vocals were very enjoyable ,and I would have put the song higher if it was just her singing.
49. Where Everybody Knows Your Name - Gary Portnoy This felt kinda odd, but TV sitcom show theme songs did chart back in the day. "Happy Days and "Welcome Back" , The Banana Splits also charted. I would chart this show high if we did a tv sitcoms RD. Didn't catch the vileness of vers. 3. He says something about your husband wants to be a girl. I was more tapped by your little angel hung the cat up by its tail. Animal cruelty, but I didn't get the third vers?
48. In My Dreams - Dokken Losing a metal top 10 right off the back. Colour me surprised. I stand alone with my Hair Metal crown in a valley of Hair Metal haters.
47. Chain Reaction - Diana Ross I really forgettable Diana Ross song. Even worse than "Muscles"
46. Home Sweet Home - Mötley Crüe Not a typo. I knew my rank wouldn't help ot either, but I always felt this was a tad soft for the band. Had this been "Without You" I would have just lost another top 10.
45. The Power of Love - Jennifer Rush This was alright. Sounds like a cover of a song that I really didn't like to begin with. Maybe a Céline Dion song?
44. Johnny B. Goode - Peter Tosh This actually wasn't too bad. I just knew ,and liked 40 other songs a lot more.
43. If I Had a Rocket Launcher - Bruce Cockburn This felt way too mature for my 80's likes.
42. Hot for Teacher - Van Halen This is like one of the most awesomest metal jams ever. I've praised it enough in the past. I can't believe more of you didn't have a crush on you teacher. I had five. Including my French and computer class ones when I was in my 30's. Did I hook up? You'll never know?
41. Say It, Say It - E.G. Daily What a crying shame this jam couldn't even make the top 20. This is my favorite kind of 80's Madonna fueled dance pop. NRGetic and upbeat and E.G. Daily is hot in this. probably hotter than Valley Girl. Her mom in this video also appears in 1982's The Last American Virgin".
extras:
The Finest - The S.O.S. Band I charted this band a few times. I recall this one from about 1986. If you dug Dance RB& like Klymaxx and Altlantic Starr then this is your jam. If not I feel for you.
Baby Talk - Alisha More Madonna fueled Dance Pop. Wish it still sounded like this. She had a better song a year before. More Hi-NRG called "All Night Passion". I have that one ion my 12' vinyl collection.
Level 42 - Hot Water I like this one too. probably would have given it a top 35 rank here. Charted around the time of "Lessons In Love". good grrove with the bassline.
