{STATS OF THE TIMES} Songs #30 to #21 will be coming up tomorrow. At least one more person will see their #1 fall as we cross the halfway point of the rankdown. Tune in to see which of the remaining songs earns a spot in the top 20. But first here are a few songs that charted on the Hot 100 during the 1985 chart year that just missed out on being in this rankdown.

40. You're the Best Thing - The Style CouncilNot a bad little song. I would probably spin this to get an 80's chick in the mood after a late night dinner, but not much use for personal listens. 39. Sign of the Times - The Belle StarsThis was enjoyable. Totally mid 80's. Wasn't this group Wham's back up singers? 38. Breakaway - Tracey UllmanI didn't recall this one as much, but I like the 50's retro vibe she went for. 37. Don't Look Any Further - Dennis Edwards and Siedah GarrettI couldn't get into this at all. I didn't even recall the artists names. 36. Goodbye Is Forever - ArcadiaPitiful showing for this jam. Simon le Bon turns the vocal magic on. It barely misses my top 10, because I have more songs that sound like this plus Metal in my top 10, but what is your excuse? 35. I Wanna Rock - Twisted SisterAnother terrible showing for one of 80's best metal anthems. What did you people raise your devil horns to? Also I Guess we are not Cobra Kai fans? 34. Right Between the Eyes - WaxThis is a fun jam. Sounds like something Go West would release except it's missing Peter Cox's vocals. 33. Still Loving You - ScorpionsSame reason as with the cru. I felt this was too soft and mature for my Metal cravings. 32. Somebody Else's Guy - Jocelyn BrownI got her mixed up with Miquel Brown of "So Many Men So Littler Time" fame. I know Jocelyn brown had a hit or tow, but I think she is more R&B than Hi-NRG. Anyway I didn't dig this one. 31 .Love & Pride - KingNot when when I choose a less obvious number one can I get a break. This is one of my favorite New wave jams ever. take a glance at the 80's U.K. charts once in a while and expend your mind from just the Hot 100. This one went all the way to #2 (the second time around). In fact the U.S HOT 100 are the only ones who kept them out of the top 40. No account for taste at all. We really got to do away with my #49 and #50 so I can clear my tank.

BTW to explain this Didn't catch the vileness of vers. 3. He says something about your husband wants to be a girl. The structure of the song (weird and bad things happen in your life, go to the familiar bar where you can talk to your normal friends) heavily implies that the listener is meant to hear this line as saying "you thought you were married to a cisgender man, but you've learned they are <gender non-conforming, or a transgender woman>? Heavens! How unnatural and disturbing! How could they do this to you? Amigo, you need an escape!" Which is...one of the worst reactions a person could have to that kind of news.
