Surprised no one mentioned this song when talking about Stay because this is much closer (and more recent) to it than Blinding Lights

So we're just comparing every single pop song that uses synths to Blinding Lights? Neither Ghost nor Stay sound like Blinding Lights to me. Well, at least Stay has a drum pattern quite similar to Blinding Lights. Ghost doesn't even have that.

I suppose the Blinding Lights comparisons are because of how massive it was last year and ( for better or worse ) this year. It joined songs last year (like DSN) that were opposed to the trap sound of prior years and that different sound may now have been earmarked by artists as a sound that is popular now. The Weeknd didn't invent it but he may have inspired some kind of trend.
People are predicting/hoping for a pop-punk revival inspired by the success of good 4 u and that may well happen as artists experiment with what the sound of the 20s will be. If the sound of the early 20s is pop-punk or synthpop then i guarantee people will look back and say that BL or G4U were the "trendsetters" per say.

Only beat in Stay sounds like the beat from Blinding Lights, being in the same bpm with the same pitch too. The synths remind me of a late 00s club song or two, but I'm ot sure which ones. I agree the synths aren't at all similar to the synths in Blinding Lights though, as the synths in that song are 80s synths or are at least a lot more reminiscent of the 80s. But yeah, I agree most of Stay isn't reminiscent of Blinding Lights, since the synths and bass line are very different. The beat is similar enough though bpm and pitch to make comparisons to the beat, but that beat is only one part of the song, so it doesn't matter too much.

Good 4 U is obviously massive (and a solid song), but I think MGK and Travis Barker are, and will be regarded as the main trendsetters for the Pop-Punk revival we're seeing now. A lot of emo trap was starting to delve into that realm, but MGK was the first real mainstreamer to do the full genre pivot. Plus considering how well Tickets to My Downfall performed, I think that's become a pretty well-established narrative at this point.

I mean, I would argue that artists like Lil Peep and Juice WRLD pushed this genre back into the mainstream years ago (MGK's album isn't that different from "Lucid Dreams"), but yes, I guess "my ex's best friend" was the first real pop punk hit coming back that unleashed the beast.

Are they mass buying two separate singles this week? That’s nuts. They are mass buying until September at least to secure the "Song of the Summer" 2021 Billboard title. Attachment DeletedThese stans have ruined chart watching for me.

Lucid Dreams was definitely an influential song, but in no way would i describe it as pop-punk. Yeah Juice definitely took some inspiration from that era, but his music was still solidly in the rap lane. Imo, the difference is that Tickets to My downfall was almost completely driven on rock elements from the early 2000's, listen to the guitar riff and melodies on a song like Bloody Valentine and tell me that it is not far more pop-punk based than anything from Goodbye and Good Riddance.

I might just be tired (and tired me once got convinced Bebe Rexha was good), but Stay might've grown on me a lot? Kind of a bop. same for me and I’m not a Bieber fan LOL . But hey, a good song is a good song . It needed 20 more seconds though

I know all music is subjective but I question your taste if NDA is the best Billie Eilish song ever to you. For real. I think it’s a highlight for the era, but I don’t think it even holds a candle to songs like bellyache or COPYCAT.

Post Malone fell two positions on apple music..if Spotify drop is going to be huge today then I don't think that he will debut in top 10...I see a top 5 debut for ''stay'' on hot 100,top 15 for Post Malone and top 40 for Billie Eilish

There's 99 other songs...... Even that seems at least one too many, lol. Billboard needs to contract the charts to 50 or 75 songs. Most of the time, I hardly even know any of the songs on the bottom half of the Hot 100 anymore. The primary reason why I watch the charts right now is because there is a song on the cusp of breaking 3 records: the Soundscan Era real points, Adult Contemporary weeks at #1, and the Hot 100 longevity records. If Blinding Lights wasn't charting right now, I honestly wouldn't be as interested in these charts.

BARELY ANYONE IN THE GENERAL PUBLIC KNOWS HALF OF WHAT'S ON THE CHARTS. Not even chart watchers who care about this memorize all 100 songs the are charting within a given week. It's a f**king chart measuring streams, sales, and airplay amongst the general public. Even if it was whittled down to 50, I don't think that would change people not knowing what's charting. If you don't really care about that, that's not on Billboard to change to suit your tastes. Go make your own personal chart like other Pulse members

So many complaints and debates could be avoided if people kept that in mind.

...it doesn't matter that you don't know any of the songs on the bottom half. BARELY ANYONE IN THE GENERAL PUBLIC KNOWS HALF OF WHAT'S ON THE CHARTS.It's a f**king chart measuring streams, sales, and airplay amongst the general public. Even if it was whittled down to 50, I don't think that would change people not knowing what's charting. If you don't really care about that, that's not on Billboard to change to suit your tastes. Go make your own personal chart like other Pulse members Yeah I don't know why people can't seem to grasp that Billboard is an industry publication, and above all else the charts are for the industry to gauge popularity, see how their stuff is doing, etc. We as the public just happened to catch onto it and get interested, but it isn't for us. So many complaints and debates could be avoided if people kept that in mind. I agree that Billboard is an industry publications and it is supposed to gauge the popularity of songs based on sales, streaming, and airplay. However, the inconsistency of the 50/20 rule makes the bottom 50 (of which I already hardly know anymore) even more inaccurate. Nobody wants to see One Too Many chart for a 62nd week in the 61-80 range because it might be 'gaining', when you have fresher songs like Up already in recurrency. Either tighten the 50/20 rule and apply it consistently, or get rid of the bottom 25 or 50 songs altogether.

I can't wait for Blinding Lights to fall out of the Hot 100 so I don't have to see phieaglesfan712's posts any longer.
