Yeah, I knew they were aiming for a 10+ week #1, it seems it'll happen, Butter is #6 on Pop and getting a bit of a push as well? (It's funny how they ignore callouts for BTS, they're an exception lol).
and wow they're aiming for most weeks at #1 in the 20s? They're going to beat Roddy Ricch soon.

So, now I see why Billboard discontinued the Social 50 ...

imagine if good 4 u never got that first week at #1 lmao just hilarious at this point It could have been similar to Breathe by Faith Hil and Hanging by a Moment by Lifehouse, #1 songs of 2000 and 2001, never reached #1 on the Hot 100, and well, this year it seems it'll happen again with Levitating (and G4U will probably be #2). Now I wonder where will Butter land on the YE? a 9 week (and probably 10+) #1.

So, now I see why Billboard discontinued the Social 50 ... Apparently, they were transitioning to a new data partner. Which I guess means they were cutting ties with Next Big Sound for some reason.

If someone like Drake released an album and gets massive amount of streams but still lose to BTS, that is when the pressure will about to burst. I complained about Drake for the last few years, but you can’t deny that his success is organic.

Wow, great point. See, I had begun to think that the charts were inaccurate because a small section of the public was putting an ungodly amount of work in to propping up this band and keeping these songs that are barely being consumed near or at the top of the chart, but as it turns out I just didn’t want to admit how popular they were.

Do we have a watch on Mood, DL, MEBF, and OTM?

They have more data than we do so they likely know something we don't as to why the BTS run is legit where some fans may not think so. The "pressure" is likely not within Billboard but existing solely in forums like this one. if there is a rule change the magnitude of the one people here want, I don't see it until the chart year ends in December

Yeah how dare they post Christmas songs at the expense of blinding lights.
Protect blinding lights even if it means limiting how many Christmas songs can be popular at one time

Can I just say how much I love the chaos that this week is causing? Once upon a time Lil Nas X was the underdog disrupting the A list by blocking all their lead singles from #1, now he is the one getting blocked from #1 by a new intrepid act that has all the chart watchers in a state of uproar. Beautiful

Are you sharing one of your own tweets? Read ahead - to his follow up tweet. Christmas is not a reason to have Mariah at #1 LOL

Mariah Carey doesn't automatically get to #1 because it's Christmas. In fact, she's only started getting to #1 the last couple of years, and she earned it through lots of streams and sales and radio, the way you normally tend to do it.

'Stairway to Heaven,' 'Into the Groove,' and 'Don't Speak' say 'hi'! #1 on Billboard REALLY matters. LOL

props to Lil Nas X for showing actual class and toeing the company line by not exposing anything. A bit surprised to see it, but interesting all the same. At this point, criticizing BTS will bring you more harm than good. Him doing so would be bad PR and would make him look desperate. Not to mention all the cyberbullying. The only artist that I see possibly criticizing billboard for it at one point would be Cardi B. Even then, if she said nothing I wouldn’t be surprised. Praising them is free promo, after all.

By the way, in light of this mess, I decided to make a personal formula. (It's just the hot 100 with sales / 2). IIRC another used it last winter in light of 2020's mass buying. The changes are - "Up" loses its week at number one to "Drivers License" (1-> 0, 8-> 9) - "Leave the Door Open" loses its first week at number one to "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" (2 -> 1, 1 -> 2) - "Butter" loses its first eight weeks and "Permission to Dance" loses its week to "good 4 u", and "Butter" last week to "Industry Baby" (9 -> 0, 1 -> 0, 1 -> 10, 0 -> 1) Sucks for Up (it and Calling My Phone's first weeks just missed) and LTDO, but overall I think the shifts are accurate. this feels way more accurate than the current formula

So great to see the classic If I Didn't Have You by Billy Crystal and John Goodman in the top 15! Idk why because Monsters Inc doesn't even turn 20 until November but hey I won't complain!

I love "Up" but it missing #1 wouldn't have been a big deal. It's probably towards the bottom in terms of actual impact made by the chart toppers this year. Some of her features that missed #1 felt more eventful.

Also, if you were expecting LNX to expose Billboard for its flaws once the top 10 was revealed, that doesn’t seem to be the case. He seems to be more proud of his accomplishments than he is mad that the song didn’t go to #1. Maybe it’s a different story with Columbia and LNX’s own team Behind The Scenes (see what I did there?). Lil Nas X shouldn’t say anything at all. He will come off as a sore winner. He has a great relationship with Billboard and holds a status with one of the biggest hits of all time. Besides, there are still more opportunities for him in coming weeks. Airplay will grow and he’s likely to perform it at the VMAs and cause controversy which will help streaming numbers. Also if he drops his album in the coming month or two that’s another opportunity to get it to #1. All the tricks aren’t out of the bag yet and he knows it.
