Yeah, I pretty much love "Heavy Is The Head" for Chris Cornell (RIP), though Zac does surprisingly well! I don't think a lot of the experiments on J+H are that bad in hindsight, hence why I love a lot of that bombastic swell and urgency driving "Tomorrow Never Comes" as opposed to "Beautiful Drug," which is just lazy all around.
And speaking of lazy, "Same Boat" is clunky as hell. I like the new album, but that's a definite weaker cut. I have a soft spot for "Grandma's Garden," though. A little baffled that "The Man Who Loves You The Most" exists when they already milked this exact theme with "I'll Be Your Man" off of J+H.

There wasnât much that left in the bottom 5 that I was all too surprised by as anything with Kid Rockâs name attached to it is bound to not see the outside of that. âIsland Songâ just feels too cliche even for them and âJunkyardâ is a mess. I do think I actually underranked âCastawayâ a bit, but it just seems rather unmemorable.
Not surprised to see âSomeone I Used to Knowâ exit so soon, but this honestly deserved better. I find this all too relatable on a personal level.
While I still have a lot of mixed thoughts about âBeautiful Drugâ, I think I enjoy it a tad bit more now than I did back when it was released. Itâs still hard for me to grasp how they went from criticizing a Luke Bryan song only to follow it up with this.
How did I not know that the late, great John Prine wrote âAll the Bestâ?! I can definitely hear it after the fact. Heâs one artist Iâve long respected but just have never done a deep dive into. Having not known that this was initially a cover beforehand, I thought ZBB did a great job with it.
I went into this wondering just where âHeavy Is the Headâ might land, and much to my surprise it made it further than I thought it might (and a perfect ranking to boot!). I actually quite enjoy this one, but at the same time understand if itâs not your cup of tea.
Anyways, I had some catching up to do so I at least wanted to post a few thoughts before we get too much further along.

The 2nd single of Welcome Home album is barely in top 20 here. I guess the emphasized 'roots' in the chorus can be annoying after a while, but I don't think it's radio-unfriendly enough that it barely made in top 40. So I blamed the 'radio version' which feels a bit muted compared to album version, and they butchered the bridge. đșCountryLineDancer and someguy lose a top 10.

I definitely didn't expect Loving You Easy had a steady climb throughout rankdown submission. To me this song felt rushed and aside from decent funky riff and that short fiddle solo this song is not that memorable. Cody Wants Out... , Troublemaker and kw9461 lose a top 10. bboat11 got a perfect ranking.

Welcome Home album is eliminated from the rankdown as My Old Man left at #18, costing my #1, and top 10 of gardyfan and KanenrĂĄ:ke . The first #1 loser, đșCountryLineDancer , got a perfect ranking. I absolutely love everything from this. The gentle fiddle in the bridge is so emotional, and their harmony is still strong. It's definitely too risky for a lead single, especially in 2015, but damn if I wasn't hyped for the album after Jekyll + Hyde. Also this and Body Like a Back Road released on the same day but guess which song became a (massive) hit in the end...

Another lead single is eliminated, as The Wind from Uncaged left the rankdown. kw9461 almost loses a #1, zack97 , KanenrĂĄ:ke and I lose a top 10. This is a very fun one. A total bluegrass jam. Also can we talk about that music video? It is not really related to the lyrics but the animations are so funny lol

All Alright rounds up the reveals for today. zack97 , gardyfan and castleoblivion26 lose a top 10. This is a great country rock song with great guitar solo in the middle. "And it was all alright/Now it's all, all wrong" is a great hook. They should work more with Dave Grohl tbh. If I remember correctly, Eric Church wrote the lyrics "I'd have a lot to give/If I still gave a damn", which may sound familiar to some people that has heard the & album (Do Side).

There weren't really any surprises in the last reveals as everything making the top 15 seems just about right. That said, I am (maybe somewhat) pleasantly surprised to see "Knee Deep" make it this far as I just kinda assumed anything with Jimmy Buffett's name attached to it would likely underperform.
As for the songs that just exited, "Roots" certainly deserved a better shot at radio as it's as catchy as anything they released before it. I even think I enjoy it more now than I did when it was initially released. I can only assume that possibly the relationship between ZBB and country radio started to deteriorate quite a bit during this time.
While I usually find a close attachment to songs about fathers and sons (such as "Love Without End, Amen", "Keep It Between the Lines", "The Walk", and "Seein' My Father In Me"), "My Old Man" just doesn't quite work in the same vein as those for me. I'm also still kinda surprised that this was more of a hit than "Roots".
I'm pleasantly surprised by how well "All Alright" performed here. It's defiantly a memorable standout from that time period and one that still seems to get stuck in my head for no apparent reason.

Knee Deep fluctuated in the 10s region and finally settled in the middle of it. đșCountryLineDancer, castleoblivion26 and fearlessarrow lose a top 10. In terms of beach songs from ZBB I think this is fine, but beach songs are generally not my thing. Jimmy Buffett sounds a lot better than I expected though. Given the recurrent airplays, it deserves to be their highest Hot 100 peaking song.

Yet another You Get What You Give single left the rankdown. Keep Me In Mind has a quite catchy riff but the lyrics are not that interesting. Also "Come on little mama" sounds a bit creepy given the context about wooing a woman. This also has the highest number of top 10 lost so far as Troublemaker , Cody Wants Out... lose a top 5 and castleoblivion26 , kw9461 , .indulgecountry and bboat11 lose a top 10.

The song from which this rankdown derives its name is eliminated at #13. Troublemaker and kw9461 lose a top 5 while bboat11, Cody Wants Out... and ladyđfan lose a top 10. castleoblivion26 and tim got a perfect ranking. To me the most interesting part of the song is it's co-written by Jason Mraz, who was really huge in the 2000s. I can see this song in his style, but it would be worse than this version. Kind of surprised to see it's gradually rising throughout the submission.

No Hurry became the third song from You Get What You Give album to leave the rankdown. As you can see from the graph this was mostly top 10 throughout the submission, but the last two submissions pushed this out of it...because the 10-12 are separated by 1 point and this loses a tie with #11, so it's really competitive here. ClevelandRox loses a top 5 while someguy, tim , fearlessarrow and .indulgecountry lose a top 10. bboat11 got a perfect ranking. I am surprised this does so well. Judging from the peak on Hot 100 this is not a very impactful single. I think the fiddle solo is gorgeous (as LBTrock may say numerous times, he likes it even though he is a ZBB hater), but I don't care the melody of the chorus which feels a bit "tortuous".

The winner of the tie with #12 is Sweet Annie, the final single from Uncaged. This is decided by .indulgecountry 's #2 ranking, also helping this song to reach the highest position ever in the rankdown. Moreover, KanenrĂĄ:ke and ladyđfan lose a top 5 ranking while bboat11 and fearlessarrow lose a top 10 ranking. I find the melody a bit plodding, but the harmony when they shout the song title is quite powerful. The music video depicts Coy Bowles' wedding.

Congrats to Day That I Die as the only non-single that made in top 10 (and beat three of the four singles from Uncaged), but how long will it last?

I do love me some beachy songs, and "Knee Deep" falls right into that category. "Jump Right In" is like that too, but I personally think "Knee Deep" is the better song.
"Toes" can go though.

While I may not actively seek out âKnee Deepâ, I never really have to because it certainly receives plenty of recurrent airplay to this day. I love being out on the road hearing this song play on the radio because no matter how bad of a day I might be having, this song always just seems to cheer me up and put a smile on my face. On a side note, thereâs way too much hate here on Pulse being thrown at Jimmy Buffett.
On the other hand, itâs probably because of its recurrent airplay that I donât find myself enjoying âKeep Me in Mindâ as much. Still a good song with a nice grove to it.
âJump Right Inâ is another song that can easily cheer me up and one that I always find myself getting really into. Not sure why I expected this to underperform, but it did a bit better than I was thinking it might.
I was hoping that âNo Hurryâ would make it into the top 10 because this is yet another must-listen for me. Again, while I donât actively seek out many of their songs, I really donât have to because so many of their hits still receive ample amount of recurrent airplay. Iâm not sure about the rest of yâall, but this is one that I still hear quite frequently in and around the Austin stations.
This is a very solid top 10 of which Iâm pleasantly surprised to see âDay That I Dieâ make it in (and deservedly so). Itâs a hell of a song and the addition of Amos Lee just makes it even better. Anyways, here is what I have remaining:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11...not too shabby!
