I totally remember how "Keep Me in Mind" got boatloads of airplay during the Holidays some number of years ago. Found it to be a strange single choice at first, but it grew on me over time. And yes, I may have gotten a little overzealous with my top five ranking there. Ditto with my ranking for "Loving You Easy". Now that I think of it, You Get What You Give was a pretty huge era for them, and deservedly so. However, I still can't help but feel underwhelmed with "No Hurry" as a single choice ("Let It Go" was right there!) Ready for "Homegrown" to leave, but I doubt it will any time soon...

This is a solid top 10 but "Toes" sticks out like a sore toe thumb. It should've left long ago, but hopefully it'll be out in the next few reveals.

Catching up with a lot here ... yet, at the same time, I can't say I'm sad to see anything go outside of "The Wind" or "All Alright" or "Sweet Annie." But considering the top ten left, this is a really solid list of songs! Will say I'm surprised to see "Free" and "Whatever It Is" last this long, though ...
Anyway, I generally think most songs in this particular top 20, while not earth-shattering in idea or concept, are just made enjoyably by those breezy harmonies and, for the most part outside of the songs he wasn't involved with, Keith Stegall's warm production style. Songs like "Keep Me In Mind" and "No Hurry" are kind of nostalgic at this point.

Day That I Die made in top 10 by 1 point. tim got a perfect ranking. This is an ode of love to music, which shouldn't be too unfamiliar to some participants as ZBB has another song with similar idea called Martin in You Get What You Give. Really surprised to see an album track staying mostly in the top 10 in the entire submission process. Definitely a missed single opportunity. Amos Lee has a good chemistry with this group.

Free is the first single from The Foundation to leave the rankdown. ClevelandRox got a perfect ranking. I have always love this song. It may be repetitive lyrically but the fiddle and harmony in final verse are so powerful. Also kinda like the imagery of the lyrics "We drive until the city lights/Dissolve into a country sky". This is also mixed with Van Morrison's Into the Mystic in pretty much their every concert.

Toes is the next single from The Foundation to be eliminated. This song unsurprisingly has a high SD as castleoblivion26 's #1 and .indulgecountry 's #38 are gone. A fun fact: This song is their most viewed song on Genius (172.5k) and has twice the page views of Colder Weather (87.2k). Is it because of the "ass in the sand" lyrics lol? Among all beach songs from ZBB, this feels like the least reggae-leaning one and hence it's the one I like the most. They are better writing melodies instead of beats.

The better version of Same Boat and the one that starts their whole career is eliminated at #7. Cody Wants Out... got a perfect ranking. I thought this would be a lock of top 5 because of the single bias, but it only landed in top 5 twice during rankdown submission. It did sound quite fresh within late 2000s mainstream country music context with a moving fiddle-driven song and their imagery of being down-to-earth people help the branding a lot. I still don't use the patriotic lines but I understand where it came from. That said the shift from the bridge to the last chorus always has a bit of comedic value to me.

The most recent song out of this top 10 is now eliminated. fearlessarrow and I got a perfect ranking. Look at that pretty straight trajectory graph! It almost got no bottom half rankings as well. Jekyll + Hyde era starts out very strong with this lead single. Although this sounds more rock than their previous offerings, it still has a great melody and a good fiddle solo. Deservingly to be their last impactful single (1 million downloads in the US).

"Chicken Fried" missing the top 5 is a surprise! I thought it would be a lock just because of how huge it was and it seemed generally liked.
My top 4 being intact is also a nice surprise too.

I certainly wasn’t expecting “Day That I Die” to be such a consistent top 10 contender. Looking back, this was certainly a missed single opportunity. Also, I have to admit that at this point I was unfamiliar with Amos Lee. While it wasn't necessarily their duet that inspired me to seek him out (it was actually a friend who has two dogs named after him lol), it certainly left an impression on me. Since then, I’ve become a huge fan and even got the chance to see him live here in Austin a couple of years ago. I think he’s an artist who sounds even better live personally which is why his Live at Red Rocks album remains a staple of mine (and having seen another artist perform with the Colorado Symphony, I have to say they do not disappoint!).
Anyways, back to ZBB…the top 5 isn’t all that surprising nor is the omission of “Chicken Friend”. I have to think that the top 3 will come down to “As She’s Walking Away”, “Colder Weather”, and “Highway 20 Ride”, but at this point it’s really hard to say!

My prediction:
5. Goodbye In Her Eyes 4. Whatever It Is 3. Highway 20 Ride 2. As She's Walking Away 1. Colder Weather
Edit: I just realized that in all the data I am working on entering right now, "Highway 20 Ride" and "As She's Walking Away" will both be in the decade-end rd and "Colder Weather" will not, so.... My prediction may be wrong... :'( I hope not though!!!!

I listened to Goodbye In Her Eyes many times before, and still don't get why this song is so beloved here. To me it spent too much time (two short fiddle solos later...) for the buildup, and the climax isn't as exciting as some of the others in this rankdown, and of course the music video plays on the "clown" simile in the second verse. I admit that the opening sentence (I could tell that it was over/When her lips met mine) being a twist is great though. tim got a perfect ranking. This also means fearlessarrow got his top 4 in the rankdown top 4!

I'm definitely surprised to see "Goodbye In Her Eyes" do as well as it did here. Of course it is without question better than most of what they have been putting out in subsequent eras, but overall I would have expected any number of their early career songs to be even more competitive, from "Chicken Fried" to "Free" to "Toes", hell maybe even "Day That I Die"!

I looooove "Whatever It Is" There is just a real feel-good vibe to it that I never get tired of listening to! In their early career they had a real knack for nailing these simple, feel-good uptempos.

I also have questions why Whatever It Is is this high. I'd imagine it leaving just inside top 10 at best, not top 5 contender. I don't expect this song to focus so much on her appearance, and men struggling at finding words to describe a woman's beauty is such a cliche. Also what a shame this is blocked by Kenny Chesney - Out Last Night (1 week) and Dierks Bentley - Sideways (2 weeks) on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart. Judging from their Hot 100 peaks Sideways kinda stole a week of #1 from this. Otherwise ZBB could have 9 #1's straight. Condolences to Troublemaker for losing #1. castleoblivion26 and fearlessarrow got a perfect ranking and that means fearlessarrow got his top 3 in rankdown top 3.

Yay! I do enjoy "Highway 20 Ride" a lot, but sonically it doesn't stand out all that much from a lot of their other slower songs. I find "Colder Weather", "Sweet Annie", "Free", "Day That I Die", etc. to all have more "epic" melodies, if that makes sense. I'd still give "Highway 20 Ride" a solid B+ to A- as a song, especially considering the strong lyrics and fiddle features, and I'm totally happy to see it in this top 5! I'm just also happy that it is leaving now to let "Colder Weather" and "As She's Walking Away" face off, because I like those ones a bit more!

Highway 20 Ride is the correct song from The Foundation that is the highest here. This song about divorced father and his son works well because it dealt with the aftermath quite potently, especially the lines "And my whole world/It begins and ends with you". Condolences to Cody Wants Out... for losing #1. someguy and fearlessarrow got a perfect ranking and that means fearlessarrow got his top 2 in rankdown top 2.
